If I had not left 45 minutes later on my own, I don't know how long I would have sat in that room waiting for the PA. Today I had a 9:15 AM appointment. I waited 20 minutes after my appointment time to be put in a room finally at 9:35 AM, . Once in the room, I waited an additional 15 minutes for the doctor to come in. When Dr. Kaas came in, and she explained she was held up for personal reasons. I then waited for the PA to come in to finish the visit and she did not show up at all. I waited another 20 minutes and I decided to leave. I am 67 years old and have NEVER left a doctor's office in my life. I told the front desk why I left. Five minutes after leaving, I received a phone call from the PA who told me they were short staffed. She invited me to come in today at my convenience to complete the treatment, but I could not. I will not be returning to this practice. This all could have been avoided by a kind explanation at any point in time while I was in the office.

I was seen by Dr. Jay Ryan at this practice back starting in 2025. I went to him for diagnosed foot…read morepain, and he constantly said multiple issues existed. He kept pushing for injections and surgeries. These injections were costly and did not work, and even after understanding that, he kept emphasizing the injections. Finally after refusing the injections multiple times, he suggested multiple surgeries. Dr. Ryan performed one surgery on July 2025, and one again on January 2026. Every time I was seen for debilitating foot pain, he suggested surgery. After each surgery completed, my foot pain got worse and now I can't walk. Dr. Ryan also provided an inaccurate estimate of how long my recovery would be, he did a very intense surgery where a portion of my heel was removed, metal hardware was taken out, and he said I would be able to walk in 2 weeks. Several months later, even after physical therapy, I am unable to walk. I don't think I will ever be able to walk again. After one of my surgeries I was scheduled for a post op with Dr. Ryan, and upon arriving, I was told I could not be seen by him. Dr. Kaas ended up seeing me, and she did not provide a thorough exam of my incisions. She stood on one side of the room where she could not examine my entire foot, and I had multiple stitches on all sides of my feet. Dr. Kaas glanced at me and told me I looked fine. She then denied me any pain medications even though I was told to ask, and I needed them. The front office also is not communicative, and unhelpful. I've had to ask them multiple times to send in pain medication that I needed URGENTLY after my surgery, and they waited days to do so even after they told me they would send it same day. They also refused to prescribe me pain medication, they said a Dr. had to sign off on it but still made me wait - even though Dr. Ryan said he'd send it same day. I feel as though my pain levels were completely disregarded and misdiagnosed at this practice. The front office is also not clear on how the billing works, they never communicated that there would be more than one bill for one surgery, and they also charge a hefty credit card surcharge/processing fee, which I feel is already unfair, and not done at any other practice. Also, for being a medical office that specializes in foot and ankle care, their building is NOT accessible, at all. There are multiple stairs and a steep incline going into the building, no automatic doors at the office. It was extremely hard trying to maneuver an office being disabled and using mobility aids that I brought like a wheelchair, a scooter, a walker, crutches, and a cane. I don't think I will ever be able to walk again after being seen by both Dr. Ryan and Dr. Kaas. Please avoid this office at all costs.

After I did not show up, bc i thought that I was seeing the pain dr. only from then on, the nurse called me and said, 'well maybe sinc you didnt show up we won't authorize the referall for the pain clinic for your insurance.' I moved to the DC area in 1994 and it took a good deal of trial, error and sleuthing to find a good primary care physician. Oh boy. And patience, as Dr. Leonard is so beloved by his patients, he does not always have availability. He has been the recipient of the Washingtonian Magazines "Best Physicians of the Washington DC Area" for several years. Nowadays, it is really hard to find a physician who can, and will, take time with a patient. (I don't blame the physicians, its the situation for the rare independent practice). But Dr. Leonard DOES. It is apparent that he loves interacting with his patients, loves medicine, puts the patient first. Another thing: Dr. Leonard has consistently given me great recommendations when I needed to visit a specialist. Dr. Leonard's office, from an administrative perspective, has had its ups and downs over the years. But the caliber of his care is such that I always waded through. But this is the reality of the private practice business model--ITS STRESSED RIGHT NOW. But I have to say that Family Practice is extremely efficient now that it has moved to a blend of concierge with open private practice partners. I could not recommend Dr. Leonard more highly.

I was not informed during the appointment that this could result in an additional charge. After reviewing my visit documentation, I also felt portions of the note did not fully reflect my understanding of the visit, particularly regarding the extent of evaluation performed beyond the wellness exam. After raising concerns and providing supporting documentation, the office acknowledged overlap between the preventive visit and additional billing and indicated the matter would be reviewed. However, I did not receive a final follow-up or resolution regarding the coding review or reimbursement request. I would encourage the practice to improve communication around preventive visit billing and provide more consistent follow-up during billing disputes.

We contacted them to get my wife's gel shots for her knee, which we have been doing since late 2023. Seems like every time is the first time they've done this. This year we contacted them in April to order the shots and never received a call back. Called again in May... nothing. Called again in June, and they finally ordered the shots but with two issues: it was a different prescription than my wife has had before that cost over 3x as much ($1466.99 vs $368.92) and because they didn't get it filled til July, the cost was 100% on us, since we were now in a new deductible year for our insurance (begins 1 July). When my wife tried to get help from the nurse manager, my wife got blamed for this dilemma and then via mychart messaging said she would no longer engage on this issue, since I reached out to INOVA Patient Relations for their assistance - who have also not returned any of my calls. Additionally, I messaged my wife's doctor directly via mychart and have not received any communication there as well. I've spoken with initial office staff who logged our concerns on 19, 24, and 26 August - promised each time I'd receive a call back; but none have occurred. Called their main number and was connected to one of the persons who attempted to help me previously. She apologized and said that she was messaging with the office manager and that it had been elevated. She confirmed my number and said I'd receive a call from one of the same two people who were supposed to have called me on the 24th. I asked if they'd call me today, and she said they'd call when they got out of their meeting; told them I'd be patiently waiting. No one called. I went to another doctor for the rice bodies and chronic synovitis, a recurring condition, and his care was good but the surgical outcome was nowhere near as good as it was with Dr. Miyamoto. I have since returned to Dr. Miyamoto's care and really appreciate his work and his office staff and Physician Assistant Drew as well as the student PAs and Dr. Miyamoto and PA Drew (previously PA Lauren) are growing into the next generation of Orthopedic specialists in Orthopaedics.
