Never responded to me after I called 4-5 times. Needed emergency service no heat with a new boiler installed one month ago. Tried troubleshooting with nothing happening. Unit is supposed to go on within 5 minutes after that, no heat. Your info on internet says 24/7 service as the girl couldn't tell me if they'd call me back but said an appointment was put in. No straight answer. Very weak communication along with inept information. read more

had a mini split installed in my basement back in June 2025, something went wrong in under a year, found out the installer made a critical mistake installing the unit and now they cannot fix the unit unless I get a carpenter to install a small access panel in the ceiling. 3 appointments and Mini split still not working because of the condenser pump. Told Jesse to call his manager to see how can they make this right, but all he did was go outside to speak in private while basically putting the blame on me. Called the customer service line and the lady tells me he needs to call the manager on 3 way with me so that we can try to resolve the issue, but Jesse refused. Terrible experience and now I have no AC for the hot summer. read more

I received a text message from Bowman which had just bouight out Winters a long time local company. they offered a free inspection of our 2 boilers- which they did but I purchased service contracts for both $540. They cleaned and tested the furnaces and said the expansion tank on one was on the way out. I decided to wait for the technician to return and finish servicing the second furnace. Even tho I had made and appointment for the next week they didn't show-so I called and they rescheduled. A second tech finished the service and said the expansion tank was fine. I was told our furnaces were in good shape-all things checked out ok. A week later my heat didn't work- one of the boilers wouldn't work in one of its zones. I had been told my service congtract guaranteed 24/7 service but i was initially told I couldn't get a technician for a few days! I argued and they came the next day- I was told we needed 2 parts and the cost was $2000-what could I do. I paid, the repair was made the next day. The technician said I also needs an expansion tank!- which the second technician had said was fine. That was $531. Promised times were twice missed- and a few times they never called 1/2 hr before coming. I wound up wasting 4 days waiting for technicians. so my "free" inspections wound up costing me $3,000...Ok, I get it--just because you inspect, test and clean a furnance doesn't mean it won't break but I can't help but feel that it was only after the initial service things went bad. Each technician was new to Bowman- they had rapidly expanded in this area- and they were all very polite and very competent, clearly impressively skilled. However, the entire experience left me dubious. When I asked each about switching to heat pumps I got different answers about cost/size and manufacturers...Not helpful. We put in the furnaces 20 years ago and had them routinely service, had a few repair but otherwise they worked great. Nothing lasts forever but when you've had an electro-mechanical device inspected and tested and it breaks a week later ........well, draw your own conclusions. read more

My latest experience with H.L. Bowman was also disturbing. Had a service call to check my AC as it stopped blowing cool air. They told me I needed a NEW AC unit (mine is 5 years old) AND a NEW furnace and quoted me 30K! I had Air, Inc out a few days later. They fixed my AC in 15 minutes for a few hundred dollars by replacing a small part. These guys are used car salesmen. read more

My latest experience with H.L. Bowman was disturbing. I called for an inspection of my whole-house A/C system at the end of March. Justin, the tech who came, told me I might have a coolant leak, but to be sure, he'd like to return when the weather was warmer to repeat a certain test. We left it that Bowman would call me to schedule this, but if they didn't, I should call them. Well, Bowman didn't, so in late April I scheduled the repeat test myself; I got a slot six days later, within a two-hour window starting at 8 a.m. I got no text confirmation or reminders for this second visit, so on the morning of the visit, I phoned in to confirm. The clerk said, yes, indeed, they'd be there. I waited. Around 9:00 I got a phone call from someone named Wayne, who said the work I needed would take all day and wouldn't fit inside today's two-hour window. I explained this was just for that second reading to confirm Justin's diagnosis; Wayne said his boss would call and explain further. Next a person named Kyle called and said they already had a diagnosis and he'd just emailed me an invoice for the work, which would have to be rescheduled for a full 8-hour day. I hung up and, sure enough, an invoice for $2600 had just popped into my in-basket. Bottom line: I reorganized my calendar to accommodate a second testing procedure and at the last moment, on the day of the repeat test, all I got was an invoice for $2600. If Justin had in fact made a diagnosis after the first visit, why hadn't Bowman sent me this invoice way back then? Bowman inherited me from Climate Partners, where I had 2 years left to run on a 4-year service contract. Bowman sent me a letter stating they'd honor those remaining two years. Because of this, my initial service call was free, and Justin said the follow-up call would also be free because it would count as a completion of the first call. Right now it looks like I got what I paid for--nothing. The best slant I can put on all this is, it's due to the chaos that accompanies any new player's startup in the area. The worst interpretation says Bowman was trying to jump straight to an expensive diagnosis without taking the time to complete their free due diligence. You might want to Google some of the 5-star, family-owned, longstanding HVAC companies in the greater New Haven area before settling for H.L. Bowman. They're certainly not the equal of Climate Partners, whom they replaced. PS: I suspect Bowman's reaction to all this will be to punish Justin, the service tech who visited my house. They shouldn't. In my mind, he was the only straight shooter in this mess. read more
