We have been visiting Dubois for almost five years now, and we finally went to dinner at The Hitching Post. We thought it was only a bar, but we were pleasantly surprised when we went inside. We wanted to watch basketball and found a table right by a TV. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive...she even gave us the remote to change to a new channel for a different basketball game when the one we were watching was over! The place is like every other bar around. They serve the regular bar foods. Everything we ate was good. The onion rings were fantastic.

Typical small town dive bar, theres a restaurant inside as well. If you go...for mixed drinks they only have vodka crans and rum and coke. There is no drink menu and no long islands. THERES ALSO NO AC! which is the main reason i cant recommend this place. It was 90 degrees inside and they only had 1 fan that covers about 15% of the place. We were dyinggg. Service was pretty slow, because for some reason on the weekend they only had 2 servers, one being a 17/18 year old girl. Which is pretty unfair to do to a 17 year old. She had to run the bar and serve food by herself. The locals seem to enjoy this place, but unless you're looking to sweat your booty off, id look elsewhere. If you don't care about temp, i will say the ambiance is nice, and the building itself was overall very clean and modern for a dive bar. The food was good, and there are 4 pool tables (although the tables in the middle make it kind of awkward to play because it's super easy to hit someone). As a side note, I am from this area, I will say Ive been to better bars around here, but none that have pool tables. read more

So I have never been to this town and was here on a work trip and needed to find a place to eat on a Tuesday night. However almost ALL places are closed on Tuesday it was wild. This bar was open and I was excited cause I love a food dive experience! Walked in and it's like a book as the outside does not do Justice for how welcoming and cozy the inside is. I got the burger and some draft beer and enjoyed my time while I was there! Only bummer is it closes at 8:30pm on Tuesday's, so don't expect to close the bar down! Loved the Hitching Post! The food and service were wonderful and it had a warm, cozy atmosphere. We were in DuBois overnight on a bus tour, I left my purse on the back of the chair and didn't realize it until the next morning just before the bus was leaving. I received a call that evening from the owner, letting me know the server found my purse and they would mail it back to me. Usually impressed with the food and the service. This time our server was Bri. She was very distant and hesitant to take care of us,but she seemed to be tending more to what it appeared to be her boyfriend, than her customers. She and him took excessive trips outside. Her pupils were bigger than the moon. My girlfriend and I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. Like we were bothering her for being patrons. She appeared to both of us like she was on some type of speed or meth.This is usually our go to when coming through DuBois. But she made it a very uncomfortable environment for both of us.. Such a shame because this is a staple bar of the DuBois area... I wont be back to support any business where drug addicts work. read more

It's not a date spot (unless you want to play some pool or Ms Pac Man and drink cold beer), it's not a brew pub (but they have a delicious and eclectic beer menu), and it's not an ambiance-centric space (but yet, it actually IS!). You see, the Hitching Post has a lot of not's that can be attributed to it, but that's not (lol) the point of this place. It's what it IS that's important. And what it is, is exactly what a tired traveler driving from Michigan back to NYC wants--smack dab in the middle of the journey (actually a little closer to NYC, miles-wise, but who's counting)! The 2 times I experienced the Hitching Post were on the aforementioned drives. The first time stumbling upon it was a welcomed "fluke," but the second time (this past weekend), based on my first visit, it had become my destination, and rightfully so. Sure the bartender takes your food order, and the hum of the lights from the take-out-beer-coolers that make up the back wall of the bar area are not "ideal lighting;" and it's noisy, and it's vibe-y, and it can possibly be a little intimidating at first, but DAMN... IF THIS PLACE DOESN'T HAVE THE BEST WINGS I HAVE EVER EATEN THEN I HAVE NEVER EATEN THEM AT ALL. Do yourself a favor and stop in here the next time you are driving east or west along I80, stay at the Best Western (practically next door), and order a cold beer and the hot wings with garlic and butter sauce--the others are good, but this is the money-maker. read more

We've been visiting DuBois for many years but never considered this place because it looked like a serious dive bar..... Then, one day after work we wanted to grab a beer and decided to drop in for one.... Once inside, we became big fans. Several beers on tap and a large selection of craft beer in bottles and the place is really clean. Mondays are Wing Night, $5 per dozen. Very good! The menu runs from salads to burgers, ribs and seafood with daily specials. Food has always been well prepared and fresh tasting. This place is also open 24/7 and has become our go to breakfast place, also! Every trip to town now includes at least two stops here! read more

This was the absolute bar none worst experience I've had paying someone to do something for me for as long as I can remember. I walked in last night part of a group of 3. We sat down and were ignored (aside from servers walking by and smirking) for 30 minutes before I asked one of them if we were in a bad seat. We were told no, and ignored for another 20 minutes. I went to the bar to get menus and asked the girl how to place an order. She threw her hands into the air and said "You have to talk to us (ask us to do our jobs)" We tried shouting at the server then for the next 15 minutes when she'd shuffle by staring at the ground, before we moved into a gentleman's section and had a pleasant experience from there out. It's unfortunate that it could never have been good enough to make up for the hour we wasted to begin with. Also, it's a cash only bar with a normally out of order ATM. For the area, it's a four. If this were in a major city it would be a 1 or 2. It's a funny thing, the Hitching Post ... you'd probably look at it and never want to go there, but it's actually got potential to be fun. I really enjoy going there and I tend to disagree with the reviews thus far. You can get a little bit of attitude from the staff as one previous reviewer mentioned, but if you spend any time at all talking to them, they're usually pretty nice. On the night of the wing special it gets busy, so know you're order ... wing type, dipping sauce preference (ranch or blue cheese ), celery or not. They're great -- meaty, hot (temp wise) and saucy. Love them -- even for full price. They also have a great beer selection. They have really stepped it up over the past few years. They tend to have just the regulars on tap, but they have an excellent bottle selection. Lots of craft beers including some hard to find stuff from time to time (I've been when they've had KBS bottles and another time when they had Dogfish Head Bitches Brew). The music is generally what the bartenders like, but they have a jukebox and if you load it up, they turn down their songs. They have air hockey, darts, and multiple pool tables to keep you occupied while you're drinking. The ladies bathroom is fine. It's clean enough but not updated. The doors don't lock, which isn't great, but there usually isn't a lot of traffic in the bathrooms, so not a big deal. I believe you can get hotel rooms for a very, very low price. I've been to this hot spot twice in the past two years (each time this was our go-to for a nice mid trip lunch/beer combo). I expect to continue hitting this place for the rest of my days on this earth when I head up to camp for some nice trout fishing. The beers are cold and the burgers are tasty. The theme of the trip was Labatt Blue so our group made sure to partake in several with our delicious burgers. There are several pool tables as well as televisions to enjoy. The service is quite quick for every instance I've been fortunate enough to partake in. Would strongly suggest the burger and fries combo (already spoke very highly of the burger) but the fries are also quite delicious. If you're heading up to Elk County I would strongly suggest this as a pitstop on your way up (or even on your way back). read more

This restaurant deserves 0 stars if I am being completely honest. My friends and I got kicked out because we weren't 21 when we just wanted food. The waiter said that we would sip off of other people's drinks when none of us could order alcohol in the first place. Best wings in town!!! They only have 5 flavors, but wirh hoe good these are, you dont need to have many flavors. The have 5. Mild, medium, hot, butter and garlic, and my favorite, sweet hot. They're a nice crisp on the outsidr and juicy on the inside. No fat and no pink. Perfection. They're appetizers are pretty good too. Burgers are typical burgers. I dont think theyre is something very special about them. Service is usually great, sometimes lacking in the speed and friendly category. But it's a bar and for the area, definitely one of the better ones. Deals are competitive with ither establishments and they have a specials daily. The most disappointing experience I've ever had at a restaurant. The server was nice, however; the management was completely unprofessional. There was no signage that says you have to be 21 to eat at there even if your not at the bar, nor does it say it anywhere on the website. The waitress tried to compromise with us in the beginning and we said we would leave if that's their policy. She was going to check with management and get back to us, after sitting there for 20 minutes a guy behind the bar yelled at the waitress and the at us to leave immediately. Been driving by this place for years and never stopped in. Decided to check it out today and so glad we did! I had the Sundowner burger and my wife had the Godfather Italian sub. Both were awesome. Our server Ana was excellent, friendly and attentive. The beer was ice cold and the establishment was clean and comfortable. We will definitely be making this place one our our regular stops from now on. Some things to note, cash only but they have an ATM and the place is open 24/7, 365 days a year. My fiance & I go here often to play pool. For a while when we first started going here, there was no pool chalk or hand chalk. We had brought it to the bartenders attention. A few days later we came back and there was brand new pool supplies. That was awesome! Tiffy is a wonderful tender & always welcomes us with a friendly smile & awesome service!! My friends and I are all 18 so we sat in the dining area since we obviously can't legally drink there. We ordered our food and waited about 20 minutes and then the bartender yells at our waitress saying we weren't allowed to be there. There was no sign or anything on the website saying that someone had to be 21 (the "house rule") with us and we were just about to eat. Another guy came out and yelled even louder at the waitress who had only been working there for 6 weeks who clearly didn't know it wasn't allowed and he yelled at us to leave immediately. On our way out he yelled at the waitress again that we had to pay for our food that we never got. We walked out we were not paying for it. Most disgusting experience of my life. To the waitress, get a new job that's terrible management. read more

The burgers are very good here. There are always good specials. Don't miss looking at the specials posted! Pricing is good but keep in mind it is all cash. You can use the ATM in this establishment, but I'm always concerned about the non-bank ATM's in joints like this. Speaking of joints, we stopped here for a 6-pack, and while exiting found a lady searching through the cigarette butt container outside, said she was looking for something. She acted a little too "chummy" for our likes and was acting impaired. There have been quite a few creepy folks in the parking lot, and at night this is a turn-off. Dubois is a small, safe town, but this particular establishing seems to invite some unsavory characters. The staff inside are friendly enough. I love the burgers, and that's what has brought me back to this place. Nice selection of carry-out beverages. Monitor the parking lot a little better, and it won't have such a reputation as a dive bar that appears unsafe to out-of-town visitors. read more

Damn good wings! I ordered the hot garlic butter sauce and was it real good! Some may say its a little salty but I loved it. Big wings, no skimpy anemic chickens here. Great beer selection too... Lots of ales and lagers to choose from. It's a cross between a good 'ol dive bar and restaurant. A dining area on one side and across a divided wall is a bar with 10 taps and another great selection of bottles. There is also a room in the back with 4 or so pool tables.
