Whitehall Estate and Celebrations Farm was the location for "Pickled & Roasted" Taste of Blue Ridge food event. The property is spacious and has many different options for events including weddings and corporate. All very cool and the food was great. Customer service was also great. My only issue was the wine and beer selection was limited and didn't include local selections. The line for the bar went through seated areas inside and did not allow for proper social distancing. But there were outdoor eating options, which is the best anyway for the view of the property, wildlife, and surrounding mountains. read more

His consistent help, support and guidance from the first time we visited, several meetings in person, very quick and thorough responses in email to helping on the wedding day was so reassuring and comforting throughout. His wealth of experience definitely shows but he was always open to listen to our opinions and our needs and accommodate us. Francisco the event captain was so accommodating and was always a step ahead. He had hors d'oeuvres and drinks ready for us before we asked. I have been to many other weddings in the past few years and the service here makes other look like beginners. The food - our plated meal was delivered hot and quickly which I rarely find at the many hotel functions I attend. Hors d'oeuvres we hot and tasty. Recently attended a wedding as a guest. Picturesque backdrop for an outdoor wedding. It's not close to anything, really, but the drive out here was gorgeous. The historic manor itself is quaint with multiple sections, back rooms, etc. Food was solid (plated salad, buffet dinner). There's just enough gilding of historicity to lend a touch of timelessness and gravitas to the occasion without the full burden of institutional pomp and tradition. A few observations for areas needing improvement: [1] As it was late June / early July, the outdoor ceremony was besmirched by swarms of gnats. I was afraid they were mosquitoes, but I didn't suffer any bites. Nevertheless, it's mightily annoying to have such critters hovering around your eyeballs. I was flailing my arms around me as discreetly as possible since I had not yet attained the resigned immobility of a cow. The staff had lighted several scented torches, but we could've used more. [2] As the ceremony took place in the late afternoon, I was surprised that the gazebo faced northwest so that the sun was beating down on the guests the entire time. I suppose one advantage of squinting was that it kept the gnats out of one's eyeballs. Then again I was afraid they would stick to my sweat. Is there any way for the gazebo setup to be shifted depending on the angle of the sun? [3] And finally, when coffee was being self-served at the end of dinner, there weren't enough cups. I attended a wedding there yesterday. It was lovely! At first I worried we'd here the Rt 7 traffic but where they actually do the ceremony is somehow acoustically protected, and with the music you couldn't hear any traffic at all. The scenery was wonderful. They had an outside wedding and inside reception. The food was fabulous. The reception area was a bit loud, so it was hard to talk across tables. There is great space for dancing, dinner, drinks... indoor and outdoor spaces. Really fabulous. read more

Note: I did not book my wedding here, only did a site visit. I was incredibly UNIMPRESSED with Douglass, the manager at Whitehall. I reached out via email to ask about available dates & pricing and was given a copy + pasted email response answering neither of those questions. I then had to follow up via email and phone before getting a call back and being told "they had a Saturday here and there," but he would not disclose any rental fee information over the phone. I work in events, so I completely understand that pace venues work at and availability changes frequently, but the lack of transparency regarding the pricing really rubbed me the wrong way. Why would I want to waste both my and the venue's time doing a site visit if it's not a viable option due tot he price or availability? Needless to say, due to recommendation from friends, we went to tour the property anyway. As soon as we arrived, I could tell this place was not for me. They had about four other couples touring the site at the same time and I immediately felt like this place was set up like a machine and I was merely another bride passing through. When I shared with Douglass that I work in events, he rudely told me since I work in corporate events "I would see that weddings are like a different language." Let me tell you, there was not one thing that Douglass mentioned that I did not already know and understand in terms of events. I was incredibly offended by his implication that I essentially don't know how to do my job. His entire spiel and tour was rehearsed and ridged. Each time I paused to ask a question it felt as if I was an inconvenience. Overall he was incredibly condescending, arrogant, and demeaning. It was difficult to imagine paying $15-20k for a venue and catering (fees ranged from $3,500-8,500 depending on the date while catering minimums were $10-12k) given I had no confidence Douglass or his staff would treat me like an individual & provide the care & service I would expect. read more

My wife and I got married and had our reception at Whitehall on May 24, 2009. It could not have been more perfect. 10 months before that, I had just got engaged and I had become very nervous about the wedding planning (venue, guest list, food, flowers, cake, band, photographer, etc.). Soon after out first visit to Whitehall to scope it out and our first meeting with Doug, my nerves over planning were practically gone. My wife and I had visited a couple other possible reception locations in the NoVA area, thinking we would pick a church nearby based on this decision. We were received with an air of self-importance from these places, as if we could be so lucky to have our reception at their establishment. That was not the case with Doug. First and foremost, Doug was very helpful and trustworthy from the start. He was accommodating where ever he could while being upfront. After that first meeting with him and the tour we knew we had not only found our reception location, but the location of the ceremony too. The wedding day weather was beautiful, and the outdoor ceremony was perfect. The lawn was in great shape, and the huge trees, barns, and manor, made for some fantastic pictures. Even the guests that brought their own cameras could hardly take a bad one. The reception area has access to three patios, which all our guest utilized for a nice indoor/outdoor feel to the party. The food and service was fantastic. We had a food-tasting shortly after we chose Whitehall, and I was very impressed with the taste and the presentation. However, I was also a little skeptical since cooking and serving four people at the same time and cooking and serving serving 175 people at the same time is a little different. Whitehall provides all food service from their own on-site kitchen and the number and quality of servers ensured that all the tables were served promptly with the same hot delicious tasting meals we had when it was just the four of us. If you are looking for a place that is slightly off the beaten bath that is beautiful for a great ceremony, great party, great food, and great service, from people who are flexible, trustworthy, and accommodating, look no further then Whitehall Manor. read more

Whitehall is a beautiful estate located near Leesburg that is perfect for both indoor and outdoor weddings and receptions. I've been to two weddings here - one in Spring, one in the Fall, and both were beautiful. The drive to the estate is gorgeous, and the lawns are large, surrounded with trees, quaint buildings, and has a white wooden swing (makes for great photos!). Whitehall don't have a liquor license, but you can buy drinks at Costco and drop them off at Whitehall a few days before the event. To get a tour, you need to call in advance. read more

I just had my wedding here on May 13th. The grounds them selves are wonderful both inside and outside. The newly built gazebo is a great addition. We were going to have an outside wedding, however the clouds of gnats were a bit much. We decided to move the wedding inside (relatively last minute) good thing because it rained during the ceremony. The event staff for Whitehall and Celebrations catering are exceptional. They did everything they could to facilitate our wedding and in many cases anticipated our needs before we even know we needed something. They were happy to adjust to our requirements even when it involved moving things around outside, then moving everything inside at the last minute. Well, I'm about to have my wedding here in October 2012 and so far, the planning process has been great! To correct what Nat T. said about liquor license, they do have a liquor license, but let you bring your own alcohol to avoid exorbitant "corkage fees" as you may have read can be upwards of 20% of the cost of the alcohol!! This past weekend, we attended a wedding here and it was absolutely beautiful. Upon parking and walking on to the property, it had a beautiful, rustic look with a very open and welcoming feel to it. The open fields serves as a beautiful backdrop for any wedding or event on the property and you know it... as a girl, I took advantage and it was perfect setting for a photo op! The manor itself is beautifully kept and was the perfect size for a wedding party of guests of 100-150. It never felt cramped. The servers, drinks, cocktails, and appetizers during cocktail hour were delicious. All the staff was so attentive and very courteous. They were on top of things and very tending to the guests. In the main dining room/hall itself, it was very open with floor to ceiling windows letting all the natural light in. The table settings were also beautifully decorated and tables were neatly arranged. As for the catering/food, we had a buffet selection and again, the food did not disappoint. The best thing is it is not that far from the metropolitan area. It was a short hour drive away from the northern VA/DC area but the whole setting and atmosphere itself felt like you had traveled a greater distance. You could tell the bride and groom had a fantastic, memorable night and all the guests were very pleased. I would highly recommend for a wedding or special event! read more

I cannot praise Whitehall enough for how they handle weddings. I signed on with them one year before my wedding, and throughout the whole planning process I was so impressed by their professionalism, organization, and expertise in planning, coordinating, and running weddings. The main reasons we chose to have our wedding at Whitehall are: 1. The venue is BEAUTIFUL, ROMANTIC, and CLASSIC. 2. I loved that we would have the whole property to ourselves for the whole day, including beautiful rooms for the bridal party and groomsmen to get ready (separately), and we would not be rushed out for another wedding before or after us. There were also many different rooms/coves/balconies/decks where people could go, instead of some of the other venues I went to see that had EVERYTHING in one big room. 3. The bride and groom can decide on THE DAY OF THE WEDDING whether they would like to have the ceremony INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, depending on weather. This was VERY important to me, (and unique!) since I really wanted to be outside for the ceremony but did not want the stress of having to deal with bad weather. 4. The staff (I worked mostly with Doug, but they are all excellent) KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. THEY ARE EXPERTS. Throughout the year, I had many phone calls with Doug, many of which HE INITIATIED to make sure we were on track with the planning and not forgetting any of the details. He made himself very available and had great tips on selecting vendors (what questions to ask, who to use, etc.), the 'flow' of the wedding, and gave great ideas for decorations that he has seen at the MANY weddings they've hosted there in the past. It was such a load off of the planning that they provide the venue, the catering, the staff, bartenders (but not the alcohol, which you can easily buy at wholesale price instead anyway, and not the dessert), linens, and more. Note that the catering (everything included except alcohol and cake) is about $100 per person, which brings the price up quite a bit, but it is definitely worth it, and the food is delicious - got lots of compliments. My husband and I got married at Whitehall Estate last month and it was PERFECT! It's a large colonial white manor surrounded by the rolling hills of Virginia. We worked with Douglas, the director, and he was amazing. He made the planning process extremely easy and fun. I wanted to get married outside under the trees, with the reception indoors and Whitehall DELIVERED. Unlike most venues, Whitehall waits until the final hour before the ceremony starts to determine if it needs to be moved indoors if the weather looks bad. Most of the other venues I checked said you had to tell them 24 hours ahead of time, which I did not like. We got married at 5:30 pm, the weather was about 73 degrees (literally perfect) and the sun started setting behind us as we said our vows. GLORIOUS! Whitehall Estate also has their own catering company, Celebrations Catering. This made the planning process extremely easy because they take care of everything. The food (which was delicious), the tables, chairs (for both the ceremony and reception), plates, cups, silverware, waiters, bartenders, etc. I mean they take care of EVERYTHING and they are very efficient and good at what they do. I put my deposit down over a 15 months ago for $2,650. My fiance and I broke up and we notified Douglas in writing 8 months ago to cancel per the contract requirements. We chose a Sunday wedding (not a popular date). He had no sympathy for the situation even though we only spent a grand total of 5 hours over two separate visits with him. He felt the $2,650 was fair to keep just bc his contract said so - which beware, is also very one-sided. I understand it's his business, but there's also a reputation to uphold and refunding a portion of the down payment would have been fair and the right thing to do. Since we took up very little of his time, he should have refunded at least $1,500 in my eyes. We did not cancel the day before or the month before, but rather 8 months before. Obviously it wasn't a popular day otherwise someone else would have booked it. If we never chose Whitehall Manor on that specific Sunday, that date would have most likely been vacant anyway and they would not have made any money. So for the 5 hours of touring the venue and talking to him, it personally cost me $2,650. Just a ridiculous situation. Engaged Couples Beware: Once you choose Whitehall Manor, no matter how far in advance you book your date, you will not have the opportunity for a refund. Your $$$ is all they care about. The grounds are immaculate and provide a wonderful space for an outdoor ceremony and not to mention countless places for unique wedding pictures (including a super cute swing from a towering tree). The manor itself has perfectly designed open areas that make great spaces for a cocktail hour, a reception, etc. Had the opportunity to talk with Douglas on a number of occasions and can tell he is responsive and on-point. Whitehall Manor was the first place we visited when looking for venues in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area. And it was the venue that we ended up comparing to all other venues we looked at. In the end, Whitehall was the most beautiful countryside setting and we fell in love with it. And because our wedding was in December, the all inclusive pricing ended up being more affordable than the other places that charged separately for everything. First and foremost, Douglas is amazing. He responded to my e-mails seemingly within minutes of clicking the send button and he was always up for skype and phone calls with us to work out all the details. Since our ceremony was indoors, I had a lot of decorating ideas to make the ceremony space feel special and Douglas was open to help making everything work out how we envisioned it. We had our tasting in July and were part of one of the large group tastings. The food was incredible and impressed even my hubby (the most important detail of the wedding for him was great food!) On the day-of, the food was just as fabulous as the tasting and the catering staff made sure that the bridal room and groom's suite had sandwiches, drinks, and treats while we were getting ready. The event staff was 100% helpful and professional and there was always someone attending to our sweetheart table making sure that we got to eat and drink. We had beautiful snow on our wedding day and Whitehall was the perfect backdrop for a gorgeous winter wonderland. My sister and her new husband were married at Whitehall in July. Not only was the house beautiful and tastefully decorated, but the grounds were gorgeous and well maintained. The grounds and house with its huge swing, old barns, and multiple porches made for amazing photos. In addition to the setting, the service at Whitehall was exemplary. The staff members went out of their way to make her day so special! It was everything we could have asked for and more. They were able to give my sister her dream wedding (she has told me there is not one thing she wished had gone differently!), and we are all so grateful to the staff at Whitehall. The food was amazing too! A few of the things that stood out to me during the preparation, ceremony, and reception. - Right before the outdoor ceremony began, it started to rain. The staff new how much my sister wanted an outdoor wedding. After checking the weather, the staff recommended that we wait it out (it was a short shower). They then quickly wiped off all of the seats, allowing my sister the outdoor ceremony she wanted so much. - During cocktail hour, the wedding party took pictures. The staff was thoughtful enough to bring out drinks and appetizers to the wedding party to snack on during the photos. - Following the reception, the staff was extremely helpful in cleaning up our own things (pictures, candles, etc.) that we had brought for the reception. - One of the guests left behind a small purse with a cell phone in it. We originally choose Whitehall because it was our favorite venue that was pretty all-inclusive (includes catering, mixers for the bar - you bring your own alcohol, linens, silverware, china, wait staff, and set up/tear down help) and also had the best rain plan for our desired outdoor ceremony. But every interaction since then made us love Whitehall even more! The food at the tasting was great, Douglas was INCREDIBLY helpful with our tons of questions and inquiries. He went out of his way to get us quick responses to all our questions, and try as we might, we couldn't seem to find any question he couldn't answer. Douglas is a consummate professional and he/his team can tackle anything! We brought in our own wedding arch and they were totally accommodating. And the space is BEAUTIFUL... Then we got to our wedding day and we were completely BLOWN AWAY. A bridesmaid and a few of our guests are gluten free and so the Whitehall staff CONSTANTLY made sure there was food they could eat all throughout. They really went above and beyond! The staff was amazing and constantly offering help or beverages to guests (bonus points - they took awesome care of the bride and groom when we decided to have dinner early). We had signature cocktails and they had them ready and waiting, on trays for delivery, as soon as the ceremony was over-- the wedding party and our guests loved it! Then there was the actual food during the wedding-- IT WAS BETTER THAN AT OUR TASTING. People are still raving to me about the food weeks later, and these are people that I know and love for being serious food snobs. Seriously, Whitehall helped make me the most stress-free bride ever. We used a lot of their preferred vendors (they provide recommendations for seemingly every part of the wedding, and their recommended vendors work at Whitehall often) and I loved every single one of them. Everything was so seamless and perfect. I hope to never get married again-- but I would return to Whitehall in heartbeat for another special occasion or party. I am so happy with my choice to have my wedding held at Whitehall Manor. I really wanted to have an outdoor wedding but was worried about the weather. Whitehall's combination of beautiful outdoor scenery with various locations to hold your ceremony - and the historic mansion with a modern banquet hall adjoining it gave me the best of both worlds. There were so many interesting places to take photos and definitely gave your guests a lot of room to spread out. Also, it was so nice that the catering was done in house. Whitehall is definitely a well oiled machine when it comes to holding a wedding. Douglas, my contact at Whitehall who assisted me in planning the wedding wasn't even there on the day of the wedding and it didn't matter at all. His staff were so professional and knew exactly what they were doing. They made me feel really special and made sure my bridal party and I were served drinks and snacks before the ceremony while we were taking photos. The staff was always nearby asking if we needed anything else. I think it's so important to have support like that on your wedding day since you're already dealing with various other vendors all coming together for just a few hours. The last thing you want to be doing is answering a bunch of questions because people don't know their way around! The prices at Whitehall are also very reasonable. The staff does not work on tips (they are paid a professional wage instead so tipping is optional) and you are permitted to bring your own alcohol which the staff will serve for you (mixers are included in the price) which really helps to cut down costs. The only downside I could think of is that the banquet hall and dance floor are separated from the cake/coffee/bar room by a glass wall. So at times I felt like I was cut off from the dance floor when I went to the other room. That wasn't too big of a deal though and other than that I had zero complaints! Oh I forgot to say... the food there is SO good! I was really surprised because usually mass produced food for big crowds isn't that great but I felt like I was at a 5 star restaurant here! read more

My wife and I just had our wedding reception at Whitehall this past weekend and it far exceeded our expectations. Over 10 months we corresponded with Douglas and his team via email and phone and they were always welcoming and professional. All that made us feel comfortable with their skills, but it wasn't until the day of that we were really wowed by their execution. When our bridal party showed up they immediately assigned us a point of contact and assistant point of contact for coordinating throughout the night. Everything was set up and they escorted us into the back where they provided us with small plates and drinks. Throughout the night every course came out exactly on time, was hot, and really delicious. Douglas's wait staff were quick and efficient between courses and the bartenders did a great job making sure lines never got too long. Other small details really set them apart such as covering my wife and my meals as we walked around meeting guests; there were many small things throughout the evening that really set them apart in our minds. They let us bring our own cake and alcohol without fees which is fantastic. Douglas was extremely flexible with our decorations and set up. We picked Whitehall because of how beautiful the property is, but this is a really professional group with a commercial grade kitchen and terrific wait staff. Douglas and the staff were incredible - the food was delicious, we never saw a line at the bar, and everything was timed perfectly to keep the evening moving along at a fun pace. The staff even made sure that we actually got to taste our hors d'oeuvres and drinks at the cocktail hour. Despite weather challenges (it poured rain), we wouldn't have changed a thing. Douglas kept us informed while making a decision on the weather, and we were so pleased with how it worked out - having the ceremony indoors was beautiful and the breakdown was so quick between ceremony and reception. Our wedding planning process was also completely stress-free from start to finish. Whitehall handles everything - catering, tables, linens, and even did an ice cream sundae bar for us in lieu of wedding cake! I cannot say enough about Whitehall and how amazing a venue it was! When looking for a venue last year, I saw Whitehall and decided to make an appointment right away. As soon as we got there and saw how stunning it was and spoke with Douglas, who is just amazing, I was set and didn't want to look any further. The venue is beyond picturesque and fortunately we had great weather, but even if you don't, their reception hall can double into a ceremony hall and it's beautiful. The food is outstanding and the service was impeccable. Douglas is super responsive and there for every question and will get back to you in lightning speed. This place only does weddings so you can be assured that everything there will be just about flawless and it runs like a well-oiled machine. We seriously had the most perfect day, and people couldn't stop commenting on how good the food, venue, staff were at Whitehall. Highly recommend!! read more

I can only laugh at people who take the time to write a review based on something that they most likely had occur due to complete stupidity. If a staff member is chasing after a car and you KNOW they're a staff member, yet you keep on driving, then you shouldn't be allowed to patron the establishment anyway. You obviously were not paying attention to the people who are hired to run the event. If you saw one or two people do something does that mean it's perfectly fine? No, unless you're a sheep. Not wanting to leave your information on a site for fear a staff member is going to hunt you down, what the hell? Are you serious? You sound like someone who thinks way too highly of themselves, so instead you'll just call them day in and day out to harass them for no reason, rather than leaving your name and number so that someone can address your complaint when they get the chance. You do realize this is a place of buisness and they do run several events on weekends and during the week and there might be a reason why your phone call goes directly to voicemail, perhaps that's the reason why they have an email system set up on their website to address issues. Take your whiney complaints elsewhere. There is a reason why the place gets such high ratings. read more

I love Whitehall and am a little sad that now that our wedding has passed I don't have any excuses to make the trip back to the venue. Doug was a pleasure to work with from Day 1. He was very responsive and friendly and I knew once we booked the venue that we were in great hands. During the ceremony, everything was set up as I requested and Francisco did an awesome job taking care of us and working with our DJ to make sure the timeline was as planned. His staff even made plates for us from the buffet so we could spend more time mingling with guests. Whitehall is such a beautiful venue that you need very little outside decorations so we were able to save money on flowers & reception decor. The food was great too! It was much better than when we had our tasting there and everyone gave us positive feedback on it. You can also BYOB which saved us thousands of dollars and lucky for us we even had some leftover to take home. If I had it to do all over again I would chose Whitehall again! read more
