100% recommend this place as a wedding venue for no more than 150 people. The venue: My wedding had about 135 and seemed like the perfect number. Also had my wedding in middle November which was a hit or miss on weather but was in the 50s, perfect weather for our little S'mores setup. And Birkby still had trees with leaves that fell late so we still had a variety of fall colors still in the backdrop. Birkby has such a homey comfortable feeling with the cottage house, gazebo and other garden space, and the reception tent. The tent, with the lightings, is so beautiful. When I asked a cousin for wedding pictures, she had about 15 of just the lighting. Good thing we had an actual photographer! The house has several rooms for the cocktail hour for the guestbook, gifts, and other neat hangout spots as well as a pair of restrooms. There are another pair of restrooms by the tent. The upstairs has a bridal and grooms suite. Bridal suite is large and my wife and her ladies loved it. The grooms suite is cozy with a TV, couch, and fridge--all you really need. The 2nd floor also has two porches that look out to the rest of the venue. Great photo ops! Coordinators: Had the viewing with Carleigh--absolutely fantastic and super friendly and decided to go with her and Kristin (Simply Royal Events) for our wedding coordinators. It felt like a huge advantage having them coordinate since they knew the place inside and out and knew most, if not all, of our vendors. They were quick to respond and adjust to all of our last minute changes and updates. They were all over the place (in the best way possible) from beginning to end as in they had everything organized and made sure people/things were in place and yet were also very available for any questions or comments I or the bride had the day of. The wedding transitions happened so swiftly that I hardly saw any of it happen. The ceremony chairs were swept off, space heaters were set up, the firepit and S'mores layout was done, and off I went through a line of sparklers. Vendors: The Birkby House has an open house every spring and invites their preferred caterer and vendors. Definitely check this out if you are interested in or planning on having an event/wedding at Birkby. There are a lot of local vendors present, some who don't really have the publicity as other vendors that may have hundreds of reviews. For example, we went with a local photographer Steve and Bernadette Dalgetty and even though we haven't received the pictures yet, they were such a charm to work with. We did go with their partner caterer Tuskies and that couldn't have gone any better. The tasting was a little unconventional. We basically just had dinner at their restaurant with a $100 tab so we couldn't really try specific items on their wedding menu but we tried the filet mignon and branzino dishes that best replicated the wedding entrees. We absolutely loved the filet mignon and this chocolate martini (which we added to our wedding) but the branzino was a bit dry so we actually considered removing the fish option but we were glad we didn't. ALL the food during our wedding was phenomenal from hor d'oeurves to entrees--best wedding food ever (said no one ever but I'm serious, Tuskies was amazing!) Not only was the food great but also Neal was so fun and easy to work with. They also allowed us to bring our own alcohol saving in some costs. I truly think the triple threat of Neal, Carleigh, and Kristin was the reason why my wedding went so smoothly or at least appeared like it ran smoothly haha. Misc: Other perks to the venue, there's a large public parking lot behind the venue that is really only used as a commuter lot during the week so it was fully available for guests. It's in downtown Leesburg so it's a great spot to check out a local bar if you come early. But speaking of downtown.. The con: The only negative thing about the venue is because it's in downtown Leesburg near residents, there was one resident who complained and called the cops multiple times. There's a noise curfew at 10pm which is when the wedding ends anyway but he complained well before 9pm. I'm sure this happens quite often, it has to being in such a residential area and while it was annoying having to deal with a disgruntled neighbor on your wedding night, the cops really seemed to care less. The cops said as long as the coordinators had the permit (which they did), the noise was fine. read more

We just attended a wedding at the birkby house. It is lovely, welcoming and perfectly suited for wedding. Inside of the house is historic and very well renovated. Outside garden are lovely and they have a tent for the banquet with air conditioning . We loved the event at the birkby house. read more

Not sure why this is categorized as a "restaurant", but that's okay. The TBH is a great place to host any function. The couple that owns the house is extremely helpful and friendly. There's a suite for both the Bride and Groom for wedding preparations. There's a pretty big public parking lot right behind the house.... which is great for guests. There are so many cool rooms and outside areas to check out. I guess the only bad thing is that it's hard to herd all of your family/friends together for photos! Highly recommend!! read more

The Birkby House was such a gorgeous venue to have our perfect day. When I first saw the place, I fell in love with it. It reminded me of the old Civil-War era home I grew up in, and the courtyard in the back was just gorgeous - perfect!! It was the first place my mom and I checked out, and I pretty much booked them immediately. I needed to look no further!! They were very responsive when it came to questions. They seemed to have all FAQ answered in pre-prepared documents, which was good because they were able to respond right away. It did seem a bit less personal that way, but it's a good idea to be able to quickly answer our questions. There are some additional costs associated with hanging things and some other little extras, but I think that is mostly to protect the historic property. We did have to pay extra for an extra half hour of "event time" even though we already had the place for the day. That was one thing I didn't really get, but I think it is somewhat common for venues in the DC-area. We definitely needed extra time though - the day goes so fast! There was a little communication issue with the rehearsal, but it ended up just being a misunderstanding. We were not able to rehearse there the day before the wedding because another wedding was scheduled, but it was stated in our contract that we could only use the place if nothing else was scheduled. We were just a little disappointed not to be able to do it and with the way it was addressed when we initially asked about it, but it all turned out to be okay when all said and done. And Mary Louise addressed it later on with my mom and apologized for the miscommunication. Mary Louise did a wonderful job the day of. She is very seasoned with weddings and knows what she's doing!! She helped coordinate all the vendors, and was there to answer questions and help out. She also helped get me down the aisle and took some pictures she put on a CD at the end of the night. It was a nice little touch! Our wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and a lot of it was due to the beautiful setting of the Birkby House and the care they have taken to make it such a great-looking place. They are always updating the place with new flowers (blooming through the seasons) and other touches (like new gorgeous crystal chandeliers) and care about making their events look great! The owners of the Thomas Birkby House have created a top notch event facility in the middle of historic downtown Leesburg. It is one of the best places to host a large indoor or outdoor event in town. Lots of smaller meeting spaces make it good for corporate functions too. My company held their quarterly board meetings there for years and it was always well-received by the out of towners. Highly recommended! read more

The house is beautiful with rooms that can be used for a lot of different functions, and the people who I worked with getting my party together were really kind, amenable, and helpful, especially Mary Louise, who was lovely. Simply put, The Birkby House is a beautiful place to host a wedding, and the staff and owners are absolutely wonderful to work with. The setup of the house, garden and tent made it easy to hold my sister and brother-in-law's ceremony and reception here. (I was their wedding coordinator.) The site is so beautiful we did very little decorating; besides the table centerpieces and a little decorating of the arch under which the couple stood, the venue was its own decor. The house has great getting ready rooms for the bridal party (the bride & bridesmaids suite is GORGEOUS) and also a nice space on the second floor of the carriage house that can be used as a prep area or a children's area if kids need a room to take a break when they're tired or overly energetic. And I can't say enough good things about Joanna, Carleigh, and Linda; Joanna in particular was fantastic to work with on getting at the details squared away. The staff is so on top of their game, and they really supported us in making sure that coordination with all the vendors went smoothly. They also gave us helpful tips and recommendations around hiring a day-of coordinator, since I was part of the wedding party. Linda worked in great partnership with our DOC to make the day a stunning success and allow us all to enjoy the wedding without worrying about logistics. We ended up using an outside caterer who we loved, but I will also say that their preferred catering vendors do delicious food (we had samples at their open house and also ate at one of the restaurants on a later occasion). The only reason this review doesn't have 5 stars is the price: the venue is expensive, and if you have a wedding budget under $10k, the cost of the location will make it difficult to fit other vendors within your budget. We chose a very affordable caterer, DJ, and photographer and a reasonably priced bartender; we did a relatively small amount of decor that was almost all DIY; and we had minimal flowers. Even with all those cost-saving measures, we couldn't keep within our original budget, and the venue cost was a significant constraint. Nonetheless, the whole family was thrilled with the experience we had at the Birkby House, and I would certainly recommend them for a wedding or other event if your budget can accommodate it. I could not have found a better venue for my wedding! The house itself was rustic, historic and stunning. The grounds were well kept, the flowers beautiful and the lighting they placed around the house really set the scene for a romantic evening. The tent in the back was just the right size for my reception. The chandeliers they had hanging in the middle were the perfect touch. On top of the venue itself being amazing, the two women I worked with as my Day of Coordinators were fabulous! Carleigh and Kristen were the best. They responded to every email I had immediately, and were always there when I had questions. Every meeting we had they posed great questions about details I hadn't thought of for my big day. They were very experienced and easy to work with from start to finish. The day of the wedding they were always around when I needed them, they did a great job of getting all of my other vendors in place, and were very organized. My wedding would not have gone as smoothly as it did without them! In summary, if you are looking for an outdoor, rustic, historic feel for your wedding: this is YOUR venue! read more
