Chris picked up and said he would give me a call later in the week to get payment info and book for the date. I didn't hear back once again and called a week before the date. Again he said he was driving and would call me back that night. Nothing--i have not the faintest idea on why I never got a call back to confirm payment and date. The only thing I could think of and didn't want to resort to that reason was racism. I'm so glad that I didn't book with this place and found another who was more accommodating and actually booking for the event was not as archaic as a phone call to get payment. Instead, I was able to book online with another and got the river tubing experience that we wanted. I highly recommend Extreme Adventure Travel Outfitters instead of this place. Stay clear away from Luna Tubing.

With some smaller kids and some grandparents it's not always easy finding something that everyone enjoys, but we all had a blast. We picked a dam release date so the river was a bit quicker. Parking was easy, and they shuttle you back at the end, so pretty convenient. The process getting tubes and jumping in the river was organized well, and everyone was friendly. We had some with us worried the river might be too cold, but once you got into the water it really wasn't bad at all (temp was high 70s-80 on a date in late August). We chose a bunch of single tubes and some of us got doubles, which all worked well. Can't wait to do this again next summer!

Our family had never visited the Poconos area, and I wanted to maximize our experience in the few…read moredays we would be in the region...so I decided to enlist a guide. What a good decision. Tom has quite a few tour options...something for most interests and levels of physical ability. He was quite willing to adapt/customize any of the tours to suit our needs. We did a two day tour combo, going hiking in Hickory Run State Park on the first day and learning about the coal mining history of the area on day two. The coal tour included a trip into an actual mine, a mini-tour of the surrounding communities, and finished up with a bike ride down the old switchback gravity mine car trail. What stood out to me, in addition to the interesting locales we visited, was the passion that Tom has to share the history of this area. He wanted to put the mine tour into the context of what it was like to have actually lived as a miner. He added his own information at the mine tour to what the tour operator told us. He shared about how the topography, geography, and geology all played into the story of the coal industry's history. And the mini-tour of the communities helped us learn about the economic impact (past and present) of the industry. Tom not only displays passion for the history of the region, he is congenial and a good communicator. And he is also very observant of everyone on the tour, doing his best to give individual attention to assure each person as a good experience. I only wish we had more time to learn about other aspects of Jim Thorpe's history. I guess we have something to look forward to on our next visit.

Instead, our guide Tom created a tour and hiking excursion that also told a story with every step. From the history of the town on the street level to an expansive view of the valley from above, Tom made sure every minute was interesting and filled with new information, We left not only informed, but with a feeling of being a part of the community. We can't give a higher recommendation than we can give Tom and JTX.

Knowledgeable Convenient…read moreFriendly My wife found LOC for a family trip and booked ahead. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted, given our paperwork, walked through our choice of bikes, and given both a map and a very thorough overview of the recommended bike route to take - each staff person we spoke with seemed friendlier than the last! My family of four took bikes out along the D&L Trail from Lehighton to Mauch Chunk, enjoying the scenery, the camaraderie, and some laughs, all while well-equipped from LOC. The Center itself is chock full of new sturdy Specializeds for your riding needs - both mountain bikes and cruisers. The facilities were also equipped with commodious bathrooms/changing facilities not only for cyclists, but for the Jim Thorpe River Adventures and Northeast PA Kayak School that share the building. We paid $140 for our rentals - four bikes, two helmets (and four bottles of water) for six hours. Well worth it for a great riding tour. Recommended!

The center is very clean and organized inside, upon using the restrooms we noticed changing stalls and shower stalls so we were looking forward to getting a quick rinse and ability to change on the way back. There wasn't as much instruction as I would've liked being that we were the first time slot but we eventually found our way to paperwork. Afterwards, again no instruction until as more people arrived we decided to head outside where it seemed the buses were. Then we were instructed about getting our life jackets, paddles and buckets (for bailing and holding our food). Then again we proceeded to wait around with not much information, finally we were moved to yet another waiting area where we exchanged in our waivers for a bus pass. After all this, we waited some more (never being explained why all the waiting was happening, ie people being late, things being set up, etc). Finally, a member of the staff came to give us all the details we'd need for the adventure ahead, considering it was a pretty spread out space with plenty of people there wasn't a microphone or loudspeaker of any sort so it was difficult to hear majority of what the staff member was saying. Once this all finished we were directed to buses (yellow school buses with small seating IMO). As we head out we are told it will be about a 40 minute ride to the river. By the time we arrived at the "docking" area AGAIN little instruction. We didn't make it into the water until 12:30! Throughout the trip we were never able to hear what the main guide was saying and even though there were guides all around, they also didn't repeat or share whatever the guide had said. We also didn't have any idea if we would have a chance to dock for lunch or if we were expected to eat while rafting because no information was provided until 10 minutes before we stopped for lunch. The "cove" where we did dock for lunch wasn't very comfortable but it got the job done. The rest of that part of the trip was great. Once we returned to the center and put back all our stuff we went to use the changing rooms and the shower stalls had handles on the shower head that were very difficult to reach unless you're like 6' tall. I even tried standing on a plastic chair to reach and they didn't work anyway! It would've been nice if there was a sign to know beforehand and not risked it by standing on that chair. I also checked all the other shower stalls and none worked. Overall, while I thoroughly enjoyed the rafting experience I would choose a different establishment just due to the sheer lack of information at many points and the time spent with no idea of what was happening..

Over the last few years I've done the kayak thing quite a bit and I'm always looking for different…read morecompanies/places to try. On a whim, a few months ago I found DRPP and gave them a try. Set up: Very simple. You go to the website, find what you want and book it. In terms of kayaking, you're either doing a guided run with the owner Brian or one of the two rental options on your own which are 4.5 miles or 11 miles. www.delawareriverpedalpaddle.com/rentals At the time I went, you could do the 11 mile at different start times but I assume that was leading to a bit of chaos as Brian texted me that the time I chose was unavailable as he was leading a guided tour and then he texted me again that he was running late. It all worked out in the end, but if you're doing the 11 mile now, the only start time is 8am. You meet in Tinicum Park and ideally you park in the back behind the Erwin-Stover House. You'll see Brian's SUV and his carry rack. If you're doing the 11 mile trip you get taken up to Riegelsville. The ride down the Delaware is not very hard. With very little rain this summer/fall the river level was definitely on the low side and for 98% of the trip there was next to nothing in terms of current. It's just you, a fair amount of birds, the traffic along 611 and 32 and if you go on a nice weekend, unfortunately a lot of boats/jet skis. You will get tossed around a bit as far too many act like they own the river and you're in the way. Whatever. I forget what the timeframe was but you have more than enough time to make the trip and Brian tells you that if you want to get out on one of the islands along the way for a break or to enjoy provisions you brought with you, it's more than good. When you get close to Tinicum, you text Brian and he'll come by to pick up the gear or he'll tell you can drag it out of the way at the boat launch and he'll come by to pick it up. The Erwin-Stover parking lot is on the other side of 32. I think it was about a leisurely 4 hour run from start to finish. One small negative. Nothing inherently wrong with the gear that is offered, but I'm not a big fan of ride inside kayaks. I much prefer ride on top models. What are you going to do? No biggie. Personal preference. Overall it was a very good experience from start to finish. Excellent scenery. Brian seems like a great guy and I would definitely come back to do it again.
