If you're in town towards the end of November, there are few things that can get more Berlin than enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner at a Scottish pub in Germany.
Hirsch & Hase--featured on many food blogs and even in a recent issue of the Berliner Morgenpost--has earned a name as one of the top restaurants in the city thanks to the heart, thought, and love that Fraser and Emma put into their delicious, flavorful food.
But what most people don't realize is that this isn't just limited to Scottish food. Their culinary artistry extends to something that you can only find on the menu once a year: a take on American Thanksgiving that managed to be the best Thanksgiving dinner I've ever had.
Because when you're an American feeling oddly lonely and a little homesick (though you'd never admit it to anyone else) on a balmy Thursday in November, you can hop off the U8, wander into Hirsch & Hase, and sit down at a communal table, effortlessly joining a conversation between strangers (American expats and Germans) who had just met a few minutes ago to begin with. Not even my wildest imagination could have prepared me for the amount of food that appeared on the table that night.
