I'd rate this place 4.5 stars because the owner is a sweetheart. He was very accommodating when it came to finding me a seat, recommending me an authentic German dish, and answering any questions I had about the food. I ended up ordering the Maultaschen, which is the German version of potstickers! To be honest, I preferred the Asian-style potstickers because the skin of the potsticker is actually detachable, rather than glued onto the filling. Not only that, but the filling reminded me of a hotdog... the two flavors didn't mesh well in my opinion. Unfortunately, this was my first time trying Maultaschen so I don't have any baseline for the dish. I probably would not order it again, but I loved the Schwarze Pumpe charm so I will have to come back for a brew and maybe try the Schnitzel or Käsespätzle. read more

The owner of this bar is the coolest. We stumbled in here thinking we'd have a snack and a drink but ended up hanging out and eating full on dinner with several drinks. He tolerated our endless questions and spoke to us patiently in English. We went with the chili con carne, boiled eggs in honey mustard, and pasta with bacon for our entrees. The latter two came with a fresh salad, and all were exceptionally well priced for the quality of the food, and the quantities were also sufficient. The place has a certain aesthetic to it, so I was worried the bathrooms would be gross, but they're actually probably the nicest part of the whole place? Highly recommend- would stop back in on my next trip to Berlin! read more

A nice little bar serving substantial dishes of German pub grub. A friend took us here for a classic Berliner experience. Does anyone else find it hard to say the word Beliner and not think of the JFK speech? Anyway, it has a very cosy local bar vibe indeed. I ordered the käsespätzle. Something between a potato rosti and mac and cheese - a carb lovers dream. I polished it off quickly, and it made its way to the top of my favourite food consumed in Berlin list. read more

This place was FANTASTIC! We were looking for a decently priced authentic place to experience and I found this place on yelp and cannot say enough about it! The owner was super sweet and even spoke english. He helped us pick out what to order and gave us some local beer to try. It was out of the way and very not touristic at all. The food was well priced, quick, and delicious as was the beer. I will definitely be back and will recommend this place to any and all who will listen! read more

Was having an existential crisis about being in Berlin, questioning WHY am I here, but then this place restored my hope in Berlinien humanity. A dive that feels local, although not a proper Kneipe. Service was expedient and friendly with clean bathrooms. The pils on tap was great and we had the chance to sit outdoors on this occasion. Once we sat outside the bartender periodically tended to the beer levels in our glasses. A very chill unpretentious place, with a somewhat wide age spread, including chatterers and older folks who came to read on their tablets. read more

Flour and water extruded and boiled combined with separated and congealed animal's lactose heated to the point where the molecules start vibrating and spinning. At Schwarze Pumpe you partake of the former and get winked at by Bavaria. Hey, don't bother me, I'm eating. On a liquid note, they serve Rosen Pils. Hey, don't bother me, I'm drinking. Should I stay at the hostel and have basil pesto mixed with pasta and lots of cheese or be adventurous and try some local nosh? Should have gone with the former. The food was terrible. Overly cheesy pasta thing and another pasta dish with only tinned tomato sauce. I could have just done this in the ultra basic hostel kitchen. Attractive bar with comfortable seating, not too loud and they have two little dogs! They have a nice selection of beer and I had a lovely apfelschorle. The service is friendly and it's not to crowded. Right up my alley. read more

The menu is not huge, but I got to try their "Chili con carne" and it was great! Cheap too. The venue is small and in it's own way cozy. Made to commemorate the mining work, stools are made o old pipes, hence the name of the restaurant. I will eventually visit again. read more

Came for the all-you-can-eat-for-4.50 breakfast, and it's pretty disappointing. A sad little spread of food and an apfelschorle that just isn't trying very hard. The scrambled eggs are okay, but I'll be leaving a little less happy than when I arrived. Though to be fair, I'm definitely less hungry. Guess I got what I paid for. read more

We've eaten here twice. An excellent neighborhood gem. Late afternoon drinks the first time. Excellent friendly service, reasonable prices. Friendly service team. Had breakfast there this morning, was excellent. Fresh bread, fruit, cheese, butter, steam coffee. Gentleman at table beside came in later ordered a salad for lunch, one of the prettiest salads i've ever seen. If you're anywhere in the neighborhood it is worth stopping by. Great spot. read more

A very nice place to have a beer or two and one of its delicious dishes. It's small and cosy and I totally adore the painting of sweating workers operating furnaces on one of its walls as it perfectly fits the atmosphere of this charming Lokal. read more
