I let my scooter sit in the basement for more than a year, so it needed a new battery and some TLC to get it running again. Before I put the scooter away in 2011, it would easily touch speeds of 62MPH and was getting about 94MPG. I provide this as background info only, these were not milestones/goals I presented to the guys at Hingham Cycle. GOOD STUFF... They were willing to come pick up the scooter at no charge Friendly and comprehensive in their questions about the scooter's condition and what I thought needed to be done They took my thoughts into account, did their own evaluation and repaired and got my scooter running again in a short amount of time Took the time to speak to me about repairs and timeframe Personalized service is nice...owner and family are there and answer the phone MEH STUFF... It cost a bit more than I had anticipated. I had a similar tune-up done in 2010 at a scooter shop in Boston and for 2/3 the price I had the same work done EXCEPT for install of a new battery. Total cost at Hingham was $300+, the other shop was $175 or so. Unless the battery cost $125, work was a little pricey. I didn't learn that they were cash only until I was told it was ready. They may have signs around the shop, but in this day and age where an individual can accept credit cards via an iPhone, there's no reason to run a cash business. Further, if you are charging a little more than other shops, you can certainly afford the credit card fee in exchange for the convenience it gives your customers. The scoot is running well, starts up right away all the time and doesn't stall. Two items that I'm curious about - but these could be the result of sitting for a year - are the gas mileage (it's lower, but the idle speed is higher, so I can understand the change); and the top speed is lower by about 12MPH. As mentioned above, I didn't mention these goals to the shop when I brought it in, but may give them a shout and see if they can adjust either or both. **The scooter has been ridden a good number of miles and could need new rollers for the CVT. This would just be an age thing and nothing Hingham Cycle would have been able to fix without more scooter-specific parts. OVERALL... I have no complaints. I'll go back to them again for stuff I don't feel like doing myself. I will ask for a written estimate before any work happens. And I'll probably continue to use them for my inspections and oil changes. For model and brand-specific stuff, I might go to the authorized dealer for this brand of scooter. This would include upgrading the rollers and internal CVT stuff. read more

Bike broke down, called for pick up. Fast Response. Needed new Battery, took a few days get one in. When picking Bike up was informed that it was CASH only, NO CREDIT OR DEBIT CARDS, But offered a ride to Bank or ATM to get Cash. I had enough to cover the cost in Cash in my wallet. read more

I brought my bike here in the first week of May to have a bunch of work done and I don't really have anything good to say. I have been looking for a decent shop in the area because I had a couple bad experiences with other shops. I will say that Jim was polite and very detailed about what my bike would need, but most of the work was never done, and the work that was done took much longer than quoted. After 3 months since dropping the bike off, I was recently told parts are still not in that he's been waiting for. I was told that my appointment was scheduled for 3 weeks from the day I dropped the bike off. I needed chain, sprockets, tires, an oil leak fixed, and a couple small things like a piece of a fairing replaced and a new cable for the rear seat hatch. It took 7 weeks to get my bike back (so 4 weeks of work for tires, chain, and sprockets), I had to call every single day (was told about 10 times they would call me back but I only got calls from them maybe once or twice). I had to drive down there several times a week to get answers because they do not answer the phone more than once every 7-10 calls or so. I was always given another excuse that parts weren't arriving or the wrong part was sent, orders were entered wrong, he had to send parts back, he messed up one part trying to install it and had to call for a new one, needed to talk to his Yamaha parts rep to find out what the problem was, etc etc etc. Always a different reason but believable at the time. After 7 weeks, i had a new chain and sprockets, and new tires. These were all done well, and i have no complaints about the quality of those parts and the installation of them. I was only charged 2 hours of labor for these parts which is reasonable. No labor was charged for work that wasn't done, which I do credit them for. However, the oil leak was worse than when I originally dropped it off. I was told he replaced the gasket and that it was still leaking and would need a whole clutch cover (crankcase cover). 3 weeks after picking up my bike (10 weeks after dropping it off) I called and was told he had some boxes that had been delivered but "needed to check through a bunch of things to see if the cover came in". To no surprise, I still have never received a call that the parts are in after 3 months since dropping the bike off. I have since ordered all of the parts and they came to my house within 6 days. All OEM yamaha parts. I replaced the gasket myself and the oil leak is gone, which leads me to believe he never replaced the gasket as he said. He was supposedly going to put a new cover on (if it was ever even ordered) but I now know the bike didn't need one. I also replaced the cable in the rear seat. Part came in 4 days and literally took me 10 minutes to install using just my iPhone flashlight and a flat head screwdriver. Works great. He said he had ordered one that came in but that he "put a kink in it" and had to order a new one. I also ordered the fairing piece that he "was having trouble finding" and that came in less than a week as well. From my understanding, the shop is down a mechanic and they are searching for a new one. Maybe I came in at a bad time, but again, the customer service was not good (polite but no updates and no truthful explanations). I don't believe that most of the parts were ever ordered. Jim dropped my bike off for me at my house which was great, and he takes credit cards on the spot (which some reviews said he did not used to do). Jim and his wife were very nice through most of the process, but I don't think it makes up for the lying and never having completed any of the work. I was able to buy all of the parts, a bike stand, and do the labor myself within a week. It has been 3 months and I don't even have an appointment nor did he ever order or receive the parts I needed. I think they have great potential, a great location, and they are very polite and knowledgeable about the bikes themselves. However, none of the work was done, none of the parts came in, and I have never received a call saying they were ready. I hate to write a bad review because they were so nice to me, but I spent 7 weeks of my spring season waiting for chain, sprockets and tires, and never had any actual repairs done. I will not be back to them for any work my bike needs. I ride with several people who also are looking for a decent shop in our area, but I will not be recommending they go to Hingham. **one other thing I forgot to mention. Quoted price of around $500. asked when they could get to it,reply was first thing in morning. Leads you to believe it will be done in timely manner, went in on 10th of July and didn't get back until the 26th. When all said and done price was $1130. for a $4-500. job.I paid the money happily just to get my bike out of the hands of this crook. Will report to Att: Generals Office & BBB Office. I brought my bike in for an inspection and a carb cleaning and came out with a rebuilt carb, a new rear tire and brake pads. I could find fault if I wanted to but they were pleasant and informative every time I called, picked up my bike for me for free, offered to pick me up or deliver my bike when it was finished... Whatever it takes and I didn't just feel like a number to them. When my new tire came in damaged, Jim returned it to the vendor because HE found a minor thing to be unacceptable. I got the new brakes without being called and mentioned it to the shop and was told they were sorry but Jim REALLY makes sure a bike is in great condition for the owner and all in all ... That is what keeps a relatively new rider, like myself , alive. I knew my brakes pads were needed soon and Thank you for treating me and my Bike like we are important but just would suggest calling before you repair without asking. Brought my bike here twice within one month for separate issues. First for front end wobble for which they quickly found the cause and corrected. Second for servicing and addition of an accessory. The mechanic has been trained to service various makes and models of motorcycles and openly displays his credentials. My experience with them has been favorable and base my review on it. I think this area can use a good, readily available motorcycle service. I say 4 stars because I think we can only strive for perfection, but so far so good. I have no complaints. read more

Couldn't have asked for a better service experience. They picked up my Harley from Hull and got it all fixed up in a week! Last year I took it to Monty's for less work and it was there for 3 weeks. I brought another older bike to Bettencourt's and after 2 months they hadn't even looked at it. I was beginning to think that the South Shore had no one that provided good motorcycle service. People really friendly, and fixed everything perfectly and at a very reasonable rate. I am bringing my wife's Buddy scooter there this weekend. read more

I have been doing business with the Drew family since they opened this facility for storage of a car and my HD. I have watched the kids go from Eagle Scouts to their current adult roles. I have given Jim authority to do whatever was necessary to my bike. I have always found the entire family to be dedicated, hard working, reasonable and very capable. My life literally depends on Jim taking proper care of my Harley and I trust him implicitly. There are always at least two sides to every story and its usually only the "injured" party that goes online to vent but I'm giving Hingham Cycle a very favorable review. Just had my '92 Nighthawk 750 serviced by Jim at Hingham Cycle - a family run, cash only MC service shop. They cleaned carbs, replaced clutch lever and installed used windshield I bought on CL. I'm new to biking but not to dealing with mechanics of all types. These guys were great! They answered all my questions, listened and answered the phone when I called. Bike was ready before I was ready to pick it up. Summer is a busy place there but they treated my 20 year old beater with the same priority as the more expensive bikes I saw there. Bike runs like a champ now! I jumped right on RT3 with more confidence knowing my bike was mechanically sound. Given my experience I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

There were a number of reviews here that echoed my experience with Hingham Cycle. This is the worst place to bring your bike. There is no way to contact the owner, no one answers the phone and if you stop by there is no one there, even if you go during the hours posted on the door. The mechanic never calls back, can't give a profession detailed assessment of what needs to be done and cannot provide an itemized list. Be prepared to wait - you will wait a long time. My bike sat there for three months and it still doesn't run right. Bad service, unprofessional and completely frustrating to deal with. There has to be a better place than this for bike repair, because it can't get much worse than this. read more

Worked with them twice so far and has been more than helpful both times. I was new to bikes so after doing my inspection he even showed me how to tighten my chain quickly so that I could do it on my own later on. With my luck I broke down on my bike with nobody to pick me up and as you know AAA often refuses to tow motorcycles and any other place is hard to find, Jim however came and picked me up within the hour and towed the bike to the shop for FREE! Where else do you find someone who will do that? Not only that he brought the paperwork for the repair and took the bike to the shop and dropped me off at my house. If that isn't good customer service then I don't know what is. read more

I did not have a good experience. Dropped bike off for an inspection sticker, oil change and clean the carburetor. I do this every year for my 2000 Harley softail. I said call me if you have any issues. They did not call, they replaced a broken gasket that breaks every couple of years, its costs less than 5 bucks. Parts were 80 dollars, labor was 5 hours for a sticker, oil change and clean carburetor. 420 dollars. When I went to pick it up I did not know its cash only. No warranty and and overpriced. I wonder if the IRS knows its cash only. Never going back. read more

Stay away from this place. I made an appointment 3 weeks prior to bringing my bike in. Needed new tires to go to Laconia on the 20th of June. Was told by them that the bike would be ready. They had the bike a week longer and did not complete the work I had asked to have performed. Asked for all of the fluids to be changed, change the air filter, and replace the tires. They did the oil change and changed the tires. That's it. They stole the chrome caps out of my foot pegs. They are liars. I paid 680.00 for 2 tires and an oil change and to have the caps stolen that only cost 5 bucks. read more

Soooo here is an update on the $1500 job the lawnmower experts at Hingham Cycles preformed,(03 Gsxr1000) during the winter I got a motor swap and finally took care of the mess I started with AND as well left with after services with Hingham cycles, as I parted out the old motor I notice the stator had impacted on to the cover breaking of a dime size chunk from the internals witch caused the ECU to shortout and the motor to cease from Hingham Cycles to downtown Boston (20 min ride), so that indicated me the stator was assembled wrong,lose or both, the techs at Hingham Cycles purposely did that just like they damaged the starter or didnt know what they were doing considering most lawnmowers dont have starters nor stators, Hey Jim I figured out what was the ticking sound you couldnt get rid of.... THE STATOR YOU DIDNT CORRECTLY RE-ASSEMBLE!!!!!!!! so yelp readers unless the motor on your bike came from a John Deer lawnmower I would NOT recommend Hingham Cycles! read more
