It is my favorite area Chinese place for one main reason: in all that time, I have never had a bad meal here. Although I wouldn't recommend dining in-house, it's a great take-out spot. I grew up eating at Jade Island on Staten Island so if you know that place, you know the bar is set high. The dumplings at Chinese Delite are hand made on premise. They are meaty and flavorful. That can't be said often at some of the other local Chinese establishments. Tonight I ordered an Egg Roll and Chicken with Straw Mushrooms. Although the egg roll can't compare to Jade Island, it's darn respectable. The only knock I have on it is that it's a bit small. The main course was EXCELLENT. Tender strips of chicken are drenched in a delicious brown sauce. The dish is finished with straw mushrooms which cradle the sauce, bamboo strips and crunchy carrots. I like to tell myself the dish is healthy because of all the veggies, but I know better. The Pepè Factor: What is this your ask? I don't know how this started, but one of the staff guys started calling me Pepè. Even typing this now , I am giggling. No one has ever called me Pepè! And every time he does, I literally have to bite my lip to keep from laughing! At first I was going to tell him that wasn't my name, but now it's been years and I dont have the heart to tell him.
