This restaurant has the best Himalayan food I have ever eaten. All their food is delicious and fairly priced for the amount you get. Which is a lot. I highly recommend this restaurant. The Himalayan is fantastic! Friendly staff, and amazing food keep us coming back for more. Our favorites are the chilli (tandoori) chicken, lamb korma, and garlic butter naan (bread). The restaurant is very clean and inviting. The menu had a lot of options but wasn't overwhelming. We ordered the vegetable noodles, Garlic/Cilantro Naan, Lamb Tikka Masala, and the butter chicken. Amazingly delicious! Mind you, I love curry, and have since I was introduced to it by an Indian coworker when I lived in England. So when I tell you this food is wonderful, I mean it seriously. We have been coming to Coos Bay for years and passed this restaurant hundreds of times but never dined there. After tiring of the usual dining establishments in CB we checked yelp for new ideas and found this place high on the list. So we tried it. While the entry and location next to a budget motel might give you pause, go in anyway. We found the atmosphere average and somewhat dated but clean and tidy. Staff is well trained and dressed in authentic attire. The menu covers all the cuisine's favorites. Lamb, chicken, even ribs all cooked in a tandoori oven. Loving the entire gamete of this cuisine as we do, we've tried most things on the menu in our several visits there now. All are very authentic and portions are sizable and carefully presented in attractive fashion. I cannot say enough good things about how well cared for the presentation, flavors and attention to service are and that we've had each time we've eaten here. It's great! I cannot pick a favorite item. Pick whatever interests you and you'll be in good hands. If you are unfamiliar with the menu the way staff is great at suggestions and explaining to get you on track. While the ambiance is average here the food takes you to a good place where you don't notice much else, So, if you're tired of pasty clam chowders and fried fish and chips and poor service (as seems the norm in Coos Bay), try this place. Eat here!! You will not regret it!! I came on a rainy Saturday night around 6:30, and it was busy enough for me to feel like the food should be good, but not so busy that I didn't feel comfortable with too many people around. There is a lot of seating and I sat pretty far from other people. I ordered lamb saag, mango lassi, and butter naan. The lamb saag (I ordered spicy) had so much flavor and was so warming and comforting, and was the perfect amount of spice- pretty spicy but not to the point that I couldn't enjoy the food. The butter naan was so fluffy and chewy! The mango lassi was also very good, and I enjoyed that it wasn't too sweet. There was so much food that it could have fed two people, so I saved the rest for lunch the next day, and it reheated so well! They also brought out ice cream and it was very refreshing and I appreciated that it wasn't too sweet either! The server (I didn't catch his name) was very nice and welcoming and his granddad was so friendly and sweet too. I sat by the kitchen and could hear them playing music and sometimes singing along- it was so cute and the whole restaurant just felt warm and homey. I can't say enough about this special restaurant. We stopped for the first time for a take-out momo snack on our way up the coast, and they were the most delicious authentic Nepali momos I've had on the west coast (trust me--I've searched). When I realized an hour later that I had left my wallet behind and called them in a panic, the very kind owner/owner's wife reassured me that she had it, and would keep it safe until we could return the next day. Not going to lie--I was equal parts annoyed with myself and giddy that I would get a second chance to eat there on our coast trip. When we arrived the next day, she came out to greet us, gave me my wallet, and assured me that she kept it safe. This time I ordered the jhol momo--momos in an exquisite warm, tangy broth--and I was in heaven. Family got butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, and samose; all were fresh, perfect, and plentiful. The young man who was waiting tables was friendly and engaging, offering great recommendations and tips for enjoying the food. If you're in or around Coos Bay, don't pass by this very marvelous place. Hot tip: you don't technically need to leave your wallet behind as an excuse to return. read more

Lentil Soup was delicious, with a hint of white pepper. Momos tasted fresh but bland. Veggie Rice Biranyi had too much white pepper taste. Couldn't taste any of the other ingredients. Located in an unpretentious area, this is THE place to go if you love Indian food (or want to try Indian food to see if you would like it or if you just like food:) The menu is varied, but not so large that it's confusing, you are given options as to the heat level you prefer, and everything is freshly made and served. There were vegetarian options, as well as chicken and lamb. My sister had tandoori salmon, which was served on a sizzling platter with four large pieces of salmon. I am stoke that there is such a great place to get delicious Indian food! We got the Tandoori kebabs and they were super juicy and tender. The Chicken Tikka Masala did not disappoint. They actually use incredible ratios of seasonings and not overly salted. The veggie biyarti was plentiful and rich with flavor. Garlic naan was nom nom! Our server was really friendly and the restaurant was spacious and clean and airy. When we were leaving we noticed they have a full bar. We definitely will be visiting that the next time we eat here. All in all I still go here since there is no good food in Coos County but the bill adds up fast when they charge for everything that should come with your food like a piece of naan which is $4. "don't judge a book by its cover" on our way up to Portland we wanted to try something different. We arrived at this restaurant same time as 2 other groups. one group left immediately, we hesitated. Yes you enter the place might not give the vibe or first impression that you like, But stick around food is delicious!! Food it's a lot too! We got appetizer and 3 dishes we could not finish it all. I should have stuck with my first impression. Himalayan food in Coos Bay that can't possibly be good but then I found out the owners are friends with the owners of Himalayan pizza and momos in San Francisco. Although the tenderloin is terribly sketchy the food there was AMAZING so I agreed to give this place a try. Honestly I would have been better off at Taco Bell. Frozen momos from grocery outlet would have been better. The matar paneer dish that was ordered extra spicy was not only mild but it tasted like canned cheez whiz with cold peas in it. I tried heating up but it was so absolutely disgusting I couldn't eat more than 3 bites so I gave to my friend who bought the food and he could couldn't eat more than one bite. It's absolutely revolting and a complete waste of money. We also ordered vegetarian momos which was what we loved in San Francisco. These had a very bland flavor and little spice in them. They were so boring with out the sauce and barely edible with it. We didn't finish them. I was hoping they were good because they are time consuming to make but nope. The lentil soup tastes like something that came out of can and I have canned lentil soup at home that tastes better than this. The best thing I ate was the garlic naan but since bread isn't really healthy I had 2 bites. My friend ordered the lamb tandoori and said it was good but my dog, who loves lamb wasn't interested. At least one of us got to eat dinner. Well time to go drink a protein shake and get ready for bed. This dinner was a great way to ruin a Friday evening. If you actually know what Himalayan food tastes like don't go here! Don't waste your money because you'll end up having to cook or go elsewhere. This was actually the first place we ate after moving here. And what a delight! The menu included a delightful array of choices with helpful descriptions for persons like myself unfamiliar with this cuisine. The service was attentive and very courteous, seeing to my every need promptly, often before I asked. The food was beautifully prepared and presented in a pleasant and comfortable room. Not too noisy, not too quiet. Though I don't know it is a family run business, it had all the positive aspects I associate with family services, such as the obvious cooperation among the staff and the feeling that each person was pleased to be there. Families were welcome- I saw children of varied ages among the guests. The food was an exotic treat for me and I will return to try something new. This was our first restaurant in Oregon, actually, and it did not disappoint. We were especially impressed with the customer service; how kind, patient, and friendly the staff were.
