Service is EXPENSIVE and UNRELIABLE. I spent nearly $6000 in the Hilton Head BMW Service Dept, having a"thorough bumper to bumper inspection," and repair work done on a used BMW that I recently purchased. After nearly a month in their shop, I got the car home and immediately had transmission trouble. I had the car towed back to HH BMW where they gave me a $3500 estimate to repair the transmission. I (thankfully) had the car towed to another vendor where the transmission was repaired for less than $400. This is my first BMW so I'm not sure if this is a corporate wide issue or if it's simply shoddy, overpriced, red neck workmanship at Hilton Head BMW....... either way....... I can see BMW in my rear view mirror and will NOT be returning to Hilton Head BMW.....EVER!! read more

I was not at all happy with my experience here. I drove about 3.5 hours to look at a Sequoia they had listed. I was in contact with a salesman via email and then text during the drive. One of the first things I asked was "are there any glaring issues like dash lights or immediate services I need to know about" and what I was told was how nice it is and it's great etc. Once we get there he starts the sales pitch on how nice it is as he tried to draw attention away from broken panels, missing caps, the cap he broke off while showing us, and functions that didn't work like the button to close the rear. He also attempted to draw attention away from the interior damage (dog appeared to chew a lot of the rear cabin space) that they had hidden in pictures (a photo filter to hide scratches in the seat and lowering the third row seat just enough to hide the damage to the back of the second row seat). We get in for a test drive and the dash lights up with warnings. "Do you know what the lights are for?" He conveniently had the mechanics report on his phone with a "I was just about to send you" (3.5 hour drive!) it needed shocks, a water pump, serpentine belt, fluid service, tpms sensors, and had a cracked transfer case. To me this is neither clean or nice. It was wasted fuel, wasted time, on a wasted trip thanks in large part to deceptive marketing and bs dealership tactics. read more

With a run-flat tire problem on Thursday I called HHI BMW looking for assistance and a new tire. No callback. Friday, no callback. Saturday, no call back. I was hoping my BMW warranty and roadside assistance plan might help me with my flat tire problem but it did not. Don't call these people, not if it is something important like safety or a breakdown. Maybe you will have a good experience buying a car, but any kind of follow up or assistance in the future is a longshot. read more

He sold me on a product and car that is broken down and already had to be replaced multiple times and a resist all product that he blatantly lied to my face about. I'd seriously think twice about getting your car serviced at Hilton Head BMW. The quality of service from the Service Department has fallen off considerably in the last 2 years. Details of my last 2 interactions with HHI BMW: 1. I call & get their call center and explain that I'd like to make an appointment to get my car serviced and explain exactly what I would like done. They say no problem, just drop off the car early in the morning with the keys in it and they'll take care of it. Then I get a call THREE DAYS LATER from the dealership asking me why my car is in their parking lot!!!!! 2) I have their mailer coupon for a oil change/basic servicing and to get a new front windshield cowl. I drop off my car on Sept 30th and they say it will take 3 days for the parts to come in/install. 4 days later I call and ask when my car will be done. They ask me what it was that was supposed to be done and explained that the guy handling my car in the services dept quit/no-showed and that they're not sure about my car's status. They then call back to say 2 more days. I come in, pay. and get in to leave only to find that the velcro on my floor mats have been ripped away from the bottom and the gear shift knob is just dangling on the top of the shifter. I go back in with the knob in my hand asking what's is going on. "I'm not sure...let me check." The services mgr comes back to say, "Oh...yea. They never mentioned to me but they broke the knob and we're ordering you another one. We'll just attach the broken one till it comes in. It will be coming from New Jersey so it make take a little longer. I'll call you PERSONALLY when it comes in." 3 WEEKS LATER WITHOUT A FOLLOWUP CALL, I have to call and ask the status. They tell me they don't know which knob was to be ordered because there are 8 others in their computer system. They need me to take pictures of the knob and email them or just bring my car in again so they can see which to order!!! I send my father in with my car and the services manager tells him he will PERSONALLY call me when the parts come in. The services mgr then calls me at home and reiterates that he will PERSONALLY call me when the parts arrive. It was DECEMBER 26TH AND I STILL HAD NOT RECEIVED THE GEARSHIFT KNOB OR THE NEW FLOOR MATS WHICH THEY BROKE! I HAD YET TO BE CONTACTED BY ANYONE AT BMW. NO FOLLOWUP CALL BY THE SERVICES MANAGER FOR OVER TWO MONTHS....NOTHING!!!! Like I said....think twice before you get your car serviced there. read more

Horrible customer service in used car department. I test drove a vehicle, pointed out some concerns and was told they would address these problems and call me back when they fixed them. I told them I was very interested. They did not call when they said they would and when I followed up they informed me they sold the car. When I voiced my dissatisfaction they said they would call the next day with something similar to what I was looking for. That was a week ago and I still have not heard from them. There are far too many other car dealers to waste your time with this one. Wally and Vertus were friendly enough during the first encounter but are not true to their word...they will sell a car right from under you. read more

I just recently purchased my first ever BMW. I love my new car! I knew it was the right time for a new car for me. For a long time, I thought that my dream car was a Mercedes, so naturally I went to Mercedes first; however, I wasn't impressed with their customer service, so I decided to try BMW. Right away when I arrived at BMW of Hilton Head, I was greeted by a very nice guy, who stated that he was a "genius" and I thought he was kidding. So, laughed, but he wasn't. His job title was actually "genius"! I loved it; I thought it was perfect for him. He was extremely friendly and welcoming. I loved everything about the dealership right away. Then I met Chuck DeCarlo, a sales person, who I completely adore. He is a very nice and patient man. I gave him a hard time a few times (I apologize), but he stayed as professional as he possibly could and took care of me on all of the aspects. Then the last but not least, there was Mike, financial manager. Also, a great, friendly and not pushy guy. All around, I loved BMW of Hilton Head. If not for those people, I probably would be driving a new Lexus or Audio or something else today. However, everyone loves my new car but the most important thing, I love my beautiful white x1 BMW. I have been in Hilton Head BMW before and I was hesitant to go back. My husband certainly told me not to - he said buy another model car before you go back there, but I love my BMW. I went there because there were brake issues with my car and Hilton Head BMW said they replaced the brakes a year ago. Turn out, they MEANT that they replaced the front brakes - not the rear brakes. When questioned, the Service Manager (Greg) bullied his way into the conversations being completely rude and insulting. At one point, Greg even explained to me that I would need to find another BMW dealer because he would not do my service. I asked to speak to the General Manager (Tom Ditzig) and quickly found out that this was their version of customer service. I was constantly interrupted, talked down to, and told that it did not matter what my experience was because they had the highest customer service rating in the country. I was quickly informed that Tom knew his market and did not have any unhappy customers or complaints. He has one now! I even called Savannah BMW to get my work done and Tom scoffed that they were inferior in customer service. After I was ushered to the door, I waited 10 minutes for them to "find" my car and keys, but I used that time to connected with the Corporate offices of BMW to fill out a complaint. I visited the service department on 11/11/2016 for an oil & filter change. The customer lounge is nice, comfortable and clean. As with most BMW dealerships, they offered free bottled water, donuts, bagels and had an awesome fresh-ground coffee maker. My service advisor was Erik M. and he was great. They did a great job on the car, and I was out of there in 1 hour, even with the car being washed and vacuumed. A+ read more

Horrible service. The GM himself took me outside and berated me after I demanded they repair the scratches their detail shop left on my 740. This being after they had my car for over two weeks and I patiently waited for them to correct their wrong. They called me three times saying it was fixed, only to find they tried to camouflage the scratches with a hand wax rather than actually try to fix it. He said that I was one of those customers that can never be pleased. He even attempted to say he was no more liable for damages to a vehicle by their car wash as a commercial car wash owner is when you use their service. read more

The Best dealer I've ever worked with in buying a car and servicing one over my 32 years of owning and driving cars. Both my salesman Tim Lawrence and my service advisor Greg Taylor are best of the best in my eyes. Tim was so easy to work with and provided us with everything we needed to make an informed decision on buying the best car for us. He's a easy going and non pressure salesman which is exactly what a good salesman should be in my opinion. And on the service side Greg Taylor has gone way beyond our expectations of great service. We've had the cars in a couple times now over the few years we've owned them and everything is perfect when we get them back. Greg and his service techs deserve a lot of credit for providing such great service and making this dealership so great. Over the years I've realized that a dealership is only as good as it's service department. A great sales department might sell some cars, but without great service they'll never really be successful. I work for Gulfstream and this is one of the reasons we are the most revered aircraft company in the business. Our service considered the best in the industry year after year and this is the largest reason why our customers continue the return for more planes. We got as far as finalizing the paperwork and about to sign before handing the keys over. I spoke with the used car manager throughout most of the transaction. So the day before, when we were negotiating on the price, Mr. Higginbotham was very willing to discount $500 without much problem. It was a very specific, yet desirable car, so I didn't want to push too far and lose the deal. I agreed at total of $700 discounted. When they were very briefly going over the total sales price, I notice the $500 dealer fee was added on top of the negotiated price. No big deal, right? Wrong! I didn't know it at the time, but when I was reading the fine prints at the bottom of their website classified page, it clearly states that the dealer fee is included in the listed price. So when the used car sale manager, Mr. Higginbotham was very willing to discount the $500, it was just added right back through the dealer fee. This is ILLEGAL! it is an attempted fraud trying to double charge on the dealer fee. The problem isn't just the fact that the total price increased by $500. It is that the sales manager deliberately double charged on the dealer fee by including it on the advertised price and again in the final value. Dealer fee is a regulated value that the State of South Carolina sets. Hilton Head BMW is allowed to to charge up to $500 in dealer fee. The craziest thing is that Mr. Higginbotham told me in our last conversation that during his 2 years at Hilton Head BMW, I was only the second person to bring this up! Yikes! How many people have this sales manager and this dealership defrauded? I understand it is not a large amount, but their nasty (and illegal) sales practice steered me away from signing the papers. I ended up purchasing a very nice M3 elsewhere. For those who've purchased a vehicle from this dealership, I recommend that you check the detailed break down of the final price. If you negotiated down on the price, see if the amount is added back as the second dealer fee. If you're displeased with their sales practice and wish to take further actions that will have an impact, call BMW North America. Request to provide a survey that reflects their sales practice. Unfavorable surveys through BMW North America will cost them sales bonus that BMWNA provides to Hilton Head BMW. I am honestly disappointed at this dealership. I might have expected these dirty sales tricks from sleazy used car lots, but not from a branch of reputable franchise dealership like Group 1 Automotive Inc. Went to Hilton head Mercedes to test the GL (I have already owned one). I had already tested a Porsche Panamera and BMW 650i at BMW so I took my husband to BMW to test drive the Porsche and a 640 because he didn't want to spend $100,000. We only want to spend between $75k and $85k. My husband Drove the Porsche and came back expecting to drive the 640. Remember, me, the wife is the one buying a car! We parked and the salesman came out reprimanding my husband because some person identifying themselves as "the fire dept" called and said he peeled wheel at a stop light. That barely happened. We were so bewildered by the treatment we just received so while he was getting the keys for the 640 we went in to tell him that we are considering the Porsche (we already knew the details of the Porsche from one of our sales assoc we deal with at Porsche of Hilton head, it just unfortunately is at BMW) however, we don't want to drive the 640 here. We will be going to charleston. He got his manager, the face of hhi BMW, we had a calm conversation and at the end we mentioned that we were turned off by their attitude and the general manager said they were turned off to selling us an $80,000 car! We silently turned around and walked out. I'm going to Rick Hendricks! I already have a Mini Cooper from them. I'm forced to give them one damn star to post this. read more

Do not buy a car from Hilton Head BMW if you're going to have them perform any kind of service. We've had ours in there numerous times over the past 3 years. Each time I was a painful experience. I'm treated as if I'm lower class and that I don't not know anything about cars (I do). And that's if you can even get them to return your phone call. They told us they would call us with status. One week later, no call. We had to call them more than ten times leaving messages over another weeks span before anyone called us. if you've made it this far down into my review then you're in for a real treat. On one of the many painful experiences, we picked up the car after service was finally complete. I noticed the passenger airbag "off" indicator light was one with my wife sitting in the seat. So, we walk back in and tell them something's wrong. They look at it and tell us the senor is bad and will need replaced at a cost of over $500. We opt to wait to fix it. In the meantime I do a little research to find there is a safety recall on that sensor. I call BMW corporate customer service to confirm the recall. They tell me it is a current recall. So I tell them this dealership is wanting to charge us for the replacement. They kindly ask me to hold while they contact the dealership. He comes back and tells me they are aware of this recall and to take it in for replacement. Now if I had not done all of that one my own this rotten dealership would have stolen over $500 from one of their customer's. Not a worthy dealership in my book!! read more
