12/12/2025 I was told the Auto Care Center on Parris Island Gateway in Beaufort, SC was fair and honest, so I sent my daughter there to have her battery checked. Because she arrived late in the day, they asked her to leave the car overnight. The next morning they told her the battery was bad and quoted over $350 to replace it. She called Sam's Club in Bluffton--$140 with free installation. When she called the Auto Care Center back, they said she still owed $63 just for the battery test. Running late for work, she told me what happened, so I called the manager, Gary. When I questioned the $63 fee--especially when local auto parts stores test batteries for free--his response was, "I got to pay taxes." He repeated this instead of reconsidering the charge. This company is terrible, they take an average of two to three weeks for simple repairs, they overcharge and repairs fail after a short time. They charge tax on their invoice then double tax you when they run cards for processing. Tax on a tax. Just paid them 2,000 for a catalytic converter and within one week my vehicle died out. They tried getting me to sign my title over to them without letting me know what was wrong with it and when I told them I wanted to get it towed to a dealership for a second opinion, they jammed my doors so that I couldn't get access into my vehicle, thereby loosing thousands in tools, materials and equipment. Auto Care Center is an absolute joke. They love giving one price before the work and adding hundreds onto the bill when you go to pay. Go anywhere but here!!! read more

I had my car towed there after it overheated. I had never used them before and the service I received was exceptional. They had the car repaired within 48 hours at a very reasonable cost. I highly recommend them. read more

I took a VW Tiguan to this auto shop and specifically asked the mechanic if they worked in VW'S and he stated that depends as they did not have VW tools. Nick write up the repair order and he was a novice. They went from not getting it in till this Monday to doing a diagnostic on Wednesday. These guys knew what they were doing . They received $200 and knew they could not perform the work. What a shady establishment! Nick stated they could do the work but it would not be completed till Monday. They got the parts this morning. Nick calls me after 4 pm with the news that they could not make the repair because they didn't have the tools to work on a VW. This shady business cost me 2 days and $200. Now I am faced with going to a VW Dealership and paying another diagnostic fee. Consumers beware. I asked the right questions and still got hosed. The Owner was right there when I picked up the keys to the vehicle, not a word from her. I do plan to discuss with her at a later time. read more

I did not use this business for my auto care as they did not offer services for my import car. But I did email them a request to which they promptly returned with a phone call referring another local shop. Businesses who believe in customer care even when they don't see the immediate gain always impress me... Good character is good business as far as I am concerned. read more

Come to find out as told by another mechanic, the valve cover gaskets were never changed, and I was charged for it. Many repairs on my vehicle which did not take place, over $2,000 price tag. read more

How often do you take your car to the shop and they reassure you that it's fine and don't charge you?. These guys do the work when necessary and don't do it when it's not. I wish I could bring them with me when I move out of town. It's a no-frills, friendly, do-it-like-you-mean-it operation. And I love the bright yellow old VW bug that's always parked out front. read more

On 28 May, a mechanic in Ridgeland supposedly fixed my rear brake light that had been staying permanently on. I say supposedly because I drove my car back to my friend's house, about 3 miles and I didn't drive my car at all again until 1 June when I headed to Beaufort and my car had trouble getting to 40 mph, then to 50mph, and to 60mph, etc, and it was making horrible noises. It eventually started to run ok after a while of hellacious noises. I had breakfast with a friend in Beaufort and then after leaving the restaurant, the same sorts of things started happening again with my car but this time to the point that it was SO bad I HAD to pull into a parking lot. Then the car wouldn't go in reverse, and then it wouldn't even go forward. Thankfully my friend recommended Auto Care Center to me. I attempted to get the 1.9 miles from where I was to there but with 0.9 miles to go, the car wouldn't budge. Then a nice man in a van AND a Beaufort County Sheriff tried to push my car to the shoulder but it wouldn't budge. They both said it was probably the transmission and the brakes being totally stuck. I was sitting in the car, just talking with the sheriff about things we had in common, waiting for AAA to come. This lasted for about 45 minutes. I had a "feeling" that my car would start again so I asked the sheriff if he would follow me the 0.9 miles to Auto Care Center and he said he would. I finally got there and living in Miami I'm not used to such nice customer service. Lisa at the desk was SO nice and polite and patient and listened to my whole story. Then John checked out my car and determined that when I had taken my car to a place in Ridgeland, when they were installing the break switch, it was adjusted too far in, keeping the break pedal applied, which probably also means they didn't even test it out to see if they had positioned it correctly. John didn't charge me anything for what he did, which I assume was adjusting the break switch properly, which is what the place in Ridgeland should have done. I wanted to PayPal or Venmo them some cash because, wow, how nice were they, Lisa and John, great humans! They said no. Luckily I had some cash on me to give them. Very nice, honest, and patient people. Would highly recommend. Now waiting to see how the credit card dispute with the place in Ridgeland goes. read more

We had an unrelievedly positive experience at Auto Care Center. While visiting Beaufort, my Volvo ran out of radiator fluid. Refilling it with water, we went to a recommended downtown repair shop, who were understaffed that day and recommend Auto Care Center. We drove there. It is unprepossessing outside (and in), but everyone was helpful, and their chief mechanic looked at the car immediately. With care he diagnosed the problem -- a worn radiator cap (the car had about 100,000 miles on it), and replaced the cap. We were able to continue our two-week driving tour, which we did with no further auto problems -- at a repair cost of about $55.00, and having lost only a couple of hours of time. They were as nice, helpful, accurate in diagnosis, and prompt as we could possibly wish. read more

I had my vehicle towed here in July late on a Friday. They were very quick to diagnose the problem, which they wouldn't be able to solve until a few days. So they went through a lot of effort to get my car to the right place. Their service was excellent and I could tell they really cared. Great character! read more
