Very bad and very expensive hotel!!! Working only one restaurant, with NO normal food, we ate fish there and got poisoned, disgusting service, terribly boring, nothing interesting for children at all, terribly dirty Jacuzzi, dirty rooms, ceilings terribly fasten!! It is impossible to sleepNever come back to this hotel!!!!! read more

First time staying here. Much like other people, expected much more. I will start off by stating that the staff, in particular (Lilly M.) from the small bar/restaraunt was excellent and is why I am putting 3 star instead of 2. Very friendly and personable. Now the reason I am giving only 3 stars is because the bathroom was pretty dirty. I stopped counting after I found 10 hairs throughout the tubb, sink, floor.... unfortunately I was in a hurry as I got in late and had to walk across the street to a concert at the faigrounds. So I did not complain to front desk. Not what I expected from a Hilton. The location to the faigrounds was great. Walking distance. Even thought I didn't use the pool, it looked great and people looked like there were having fun. read more

This property wasn't what I was expecting, but it fit the bill very well. I am increasingly frustrated with paying to park at hotels and this hotel is no exception. Self Park $20, Valet $26 per night. They are located across from the Del Mar Race Track so I can understand when the race season is in full swing, they need to protect their parking spaces. But in mid February? Anyway, rooms are spacious and clean. King Beds require two sinks, however. The food is exceptional for a mid range hotel. The breakfast buffet has great diversity. The menu is tasty. The first night I ordered a burger in the bar with the happy hour merlot. Very satisfying! Take the good with the bad. Good place to stay. Great pool, hot tub, open air fire pits, and lots or places to sit and work, chat, or read. Nice layout. read more

I stayed here on a business trip so I can't judge based on price because I don't know how much my room cost, so this review only applies to the amenities. The service was very friendly and helpful, though a bit under-staffed at times. I used the shuttle service twice in one day to get to a local attraction and to a restaurant in downtown Del Mar. The shuttle service is free and they'll take you to and pick you up from anywhere within a 5-mile radius. As for the rooms, they're pretty dated and could use a makeover. I was a bit disappointed... My room had a view of the pool, which was gorgeous and well-maintained. The grounds overall are beautiful. I had the buffet for breakfast- $16 for fresh omelettes, trays of pancakes, bacon, eggs, and a whole table of fresh fruits, cereal, yogurt, bread, and oatmeal. The service was friendly as well. As for entertainment and food in the area, there really isn't much....as in nothing in the immediate area, so you'll have to take the shuttle or your rental car into town. If you forgo a day of room service you'll get a $5 coupon to apply to meals at the hotel restaurants. read more

Absolutely great and definitely recommend! I came here for a wedding, and I have to say the whole lobby area and reception area was absolutely great. The cocktail area and ballroom were a great size for the venue, and it didn't feel too small or too big. The appetizers and entrees that were available were great and the staff really made sure to constantly go around and make sure people had food. The staff at the open bar was absolutely great. They were easy to talk to and really made it inviting to come up and order any drink you wanted. I also stayed at this hotel just because driving back after a wedding would've been way too exhausting. Check in was easy, and we got our room just perfectly. One thing, I should add is that my room was a little difficult to find as there were so many staircases and open doors. Another hint that most other Yelpers have noted is that they do charge for parking, but fortunately, we got away without being charged. read more

Hilton, Del Mar will forever be a place filled with wonderful memories, joy and smiles. This little gem was where we held our wedding reception! Our wedding was back in NOV and this review is definitely long over due, but here it is! We were fortunate to have booked our reception right before they started renovations to the hotel. We actually fell in love with this place without knowing renovations would be done. Renovations were done throughout the hotel, except the ballroom, which was fine with us. Since we initially loved the ballroom when we did our walk through. Everything now has a very contemporary modern feel and we couldn't have been happier. Our guests loved how modern everything was also. Deryn, the catering manager who helped us make our dream wedding a reality! She made it so easy and available for all our questions. She was very accommodating and always went the extra mile to make us happy. I'm sure she even did more than she needed for us also. Thank you, Deryn...you and your staff are seriously beyond awesome! The one thing that blew us away was how dead on Deryn and her staff was when setting up the ballroom. It looked just as how I envisioned it and more! It brings me to tears to how happy everything looked. All our guests praised how attentive the staff were and all the food was perfect. With all that money put into that reception, it better have tasted awesome and the staff was attentive, right? lol All jokes aside, they were great! As for the rooms, we had booked a standard 2 queen size bedroom and also a suite. Check in was very easy and the staff made sure we were well taken care of. I'm sure we were taken care of even more since we had our wedding here, which is fine by me. It's not everyday I get to be a princess and not feel guilty of it. We will definitely be back for a staycation or whatever future event we will be throwing. read more

I typically stay at the Hilton Family hotels. This one at Del Mar I would say is a little better than average. The food is actually pretty decent and they treat their Gold and Diamond members really well; complete with a separate club room for free breakfast, happy hour etc. If you are staying here because your going to the Del Mar race track well this is the best place because it is right across the street. Use your AAA membership for a significant discount and you will not be disappointed. The $17 dollar to pay for parking is a bit bogus if you ask me. Fire pit outside; pretty good ambiance.... read more

I stayed here in June was attending a concert in the fair. This place is awesome everything and everyone is super nice. There always very accommodating. A big plus that there was for me was that it was right across from where the concert was which I very much liked don't want to get lost in SD. 1. There's valet or self parking (very close). 2. Pool and spa were awesome (got to snap some underwater picks ). 3. Friendly staff that always have a smile no matter if you're coming back in at 1am. Only bad thing I have to say that there was when we stayed there was that they were fixing up the wall paper on our floor so was kinda of hassle getting through with the luggage. read more

Initial walk in and presentation is nice, real nice. If you're here for the race track, perfect location. The valet mentioned a full shuttle service to local eateries and such, but don't know if I'm be able to try. I'm only in for a night. Having dinner here, having the seared ahi and trying their pickled gin. Their customer service is welcoming and sends natural. I enjoy human suggestions for foods and about the place and that's what I've got so far. I'd come again, but probably not take the single king room again if it's the accessibility room, it's super convenient for the ramp access in the back but I'd prefer closer to lobby personally. I like it and recommend. read more

My stay at the Del Mar Hilton was okay.. but not spectacular. PROS: -Gorgeous indoor/outdoor bar with fire pits by the pool -After you pay $16, you get an amazing breakfast buffet- literally- it's the length of the room and has something for everyone -Huge pool with lots of places to lay out -Huge room and huge bathroom. We had a nice patio over looking the pool as well -Despite other reviews, our room was very clean and nicely taken care of -Friendly staff CONS: -$17 to park in their parking lot!! -the layout of the hotel is very confusing -No ice machine on the first floor -I called about checking in early, they approved it, but when I got there, I had to sit around for almost 3 hours before they had my room ready! -Nothing around the area besides the fairgrounds and a Dennys I don't know if I would stay there again. I think for that price, I'd choose something on PCH so at least I could be by the water and other attractions/places to go out to eat or drink read more

The Hilton Del Mar is, IMHO, pretty reasonable and expected for its quality and location. Decent hotels in San Diego will run you at least $120/night for 2 queens, and this one is no different. Of the hotels we've stayed at in SD (Embassy Suites in La Jolla, Sheraton La Jolla), this Hilton had the largest room and bathroom we had been in at the price we paid. The grounds are very well kept! The only downside: Jimmy Durante Rd. gets extremely busy during Fair/Racing season at Del Mar Fairgrounds/Racetrack... we would probably have opted to stay else where had we know what kind of chaos that exit off the 5 would have been. read more

Had a great time at this hotel. The staff was very nice. Hotel looked beautiful. It was odd that parking was so high. But if you stay at the hotel the will give you a pass to come and go as needed. They have a small restaurant & Starbucks in the lobby. Which is very helpful after a long night out of partying & drinking. Thank you for such a nice stay. read more

Been staying at this hotel the past couple years every time my family go to the horse races and it never disappoints! Every night outside on the patio they have the best live music, where you can order cocktails and food! During the day this trip they had girls giving out free margaritas to try, and painters painting the horses. The rooms were super nice and the ac worked amazing! Definitely will keep staying here! Pool was heated too read more

The elevator doesn't work!! And they don't even tell you in advance. After hauling my suitcase up 2 flights of stairs, finally something to cheer about. Beautiful looking, well furnished room, mini refrigerator and comfy bed. $5 for bottled water is a ripoff though. I know we are in a drought but it isn't even cold water!! It tastes like they refilled it from the toilet bowel. Pool area is pretty cool with fire pits, hot tub and clean max. 5ft deep pool. read more

Just returned from Hilton San Diego/Del Mar, attended a conference held at the hotel. The meeting rooms, food & service was outstanding, but the hotel rooms left a bit to be desired. First please don't think this hotel is close enough to the ocean for a view or to walk to shops & restaurants, it isn't. BUT they do have a wonderful Concierge and Shuttle service (free of charge) that will take you wherever you'd like to go and come and pick you up. I upgraded to a pool view and it was fine, but the rooms were just basic. Only 3 floors, and a big square layout our room was the furthest from the elevators, with a very strange layout. I would rate this hotel average, but the service was fantastic! The hotel has undergone a complete renovation, but that didn't help the layout of the rooms. read more

The service at this Hilton is seriously unparalleled. From the banquet staff to the bartender, everybody has been super helpful. There was even a woman at the front desk tonight, I believe her name was Angela who went above and beyond with a personal issue I had. I sincerely felt valued here and highly recommend! read more

My cousin stayed here while visiting and I stayed with her overnight... there was a bird or some type of animal rummaging on the roof the entire stay.. it was really obnoxious.. we called the front desk about it and nothing was done and no one was even sent down to hear it.. hotel was below average for price paid & the layout of this hotel is a shame. definitely will suggest others in the future. read more

Can you please just buy kruerigs for the rooms, like all other hotels in America! Coffee set up in room is a hassle, and uses coffee bags, like tea bags, of coffee. You have to take whole tray of coffee setup, move it to the desk for electrical access, or unplug the lamp. Only two coffee bags fir two single cups of coffee. We brought our own pods from home so we could linger in bed and drink coffee. Nope. Silly and annoying. read more

This review is for two staff members, Fatima and Darvon. I dropped a package off before I checked out to be picked up by UPS that was paid for and just ready to be picked up. I received a call from Fatima that UPS was not able to pick it up due to an odd reason. I called and tried to figure it out but still couldn't. I was 40 min away at this point and couldn't go back to get the package. Fatima was so nice and called to try arrange another pick up right before she got off. UPS came again and still refused the package so she asked for someone to specifically drop the package off at a UPS store. That's when Darvon went above and beyond and took the package himself to a store to get sent out. He was able to get a receipt for me and made sure the package went out. I cannot express how thankful I am that the two of them went above and beyond their duties to help me, and they didn't even know me. They rock! So thankful read more

This hotel is amazing. I want to thank the staff for taking such great care of my nursing staff and I during our 1 month stay. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything that we needed was provided, and in a timely manner. Your hotel is always clean, the grounds are Beautiful, and rooms are well kept. You all took such amazing care of us and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. read more

I am a Hilton honors gold member. When I checked in, the front desk said that I was a blue member. When I asked for this to be resolved so I could use honors gold perks during my stay, the front desk told ME to call Hilton and figure it out. Pretty spiffy hotel, but there must be some sort of process failure if the front desk can't resolve something simple like this. Other than that, very nice hotel in a nice area. I was looking around at hotels and wondering if I picked the right one, and Jennifer F who works concierge made me realize I couldn't have picked a better hotel. She was so kind, went WAY out of her way to help not only me, but everyone who stayed at the hotel. I've honestly NEVER had anyone make me feel more welcome to any place, EVER. She gave us restaurant recommendations, informed us of places in the city we should see, helped make our dinner reservations, and went beyond what I would ever expect. Jennifer is the REAL MVP, I couldn't have asked for a better person to talk to on my first trip to San Diego. I also received a very warm welcome from Jim, who took our bags and was so kind. He really made us feel welcomed as well! If I come back, I will be staying at the Hilton because of Jennifer. read more

We stayed for 1 night because we were going to the horse races the following day. I even signed up for the Hilton Honors. Two complaints: One, the restaurant food is way, way over-priced. When I spend $85 for 2 people I expected to be WOWed by the food. Not the case. Second, and most important: My boyfriend and I were in our room and at about 11:30pm a security or maintenance person knocked once, and then opened our door to let some drunk guest in since the drunk guest said our room number was his room. This was wildly inappropriate and disturbing. It disrespected our privacy and could have risked our safety had that person pushed his way into our room. I feel like proper protocol would be to confirm the person's room number instead of taking the intoxicated or ANYONE'S word for it. Also, very disappointed at the fact that we were not compensated in any way for that intrusion. Other than that ordeal, the pool & spa was nice & a shuttle was provided to Del Mar Racetrack. I'm not sure i'll be using that Hilton Honors anytime soon in the future. read more

Stayed here from June 18 - 20, 2014 as our band was playing at the fair across the street. Absolutely loved this hotel! The rooms were recently renovated, spacious and very clean. Staff was extremely friendly and greeted us in the hallways. Beautiful patio and pool. Great location within walking distance to the beach. We thought the drinks were too expensive, and the food was good but not amazing. Other than that, this is a great place and we would most definitely recommend it and stay here again. read more

We are Hiltons Honor members. We have had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. We used our Honors Points and were given a basic room. They said they were booked and they weren't! Then we went to the horse races and the first night the shuttle forgot us and the second night there was one shuttle on Labor Day weekend!! Not sure if customer service is their specialty. read more

So wonderful!! I love staying here. The hospitality starts from the valet to the server at the restaurant, which also serves a delicious variety of delights! The rooms seem upgraded as well since I visited last. The pool, hot tub and fire spots outside leave you feeling like a celebrity! Cleanest and Most Friendliest Pet Friendly Hotel! The only complaints we have is that the toiletries and toilet paper were of very poor quality. However, when we arrived to the room, a FIJI water was already missing- we didn't want to get charged. They brought a FIJI water to our room with an extra one for us to have! The Red Trolley beer was amazing, the staff members were extremely friendly and EVERYTHING else was absolutely fantastic! read more

NO HEAT !!!! Not sure what its' like on a hot day, but on a cold day like this week you are going to freeze your butt off in this place. A hotel is supposed to provide shelter from the elements but this hotel does not offer that service. Don't stay here !!! And fire the indifferent manager !! read more

Currently on bedrest at this hotel, and I have to say it was the worst choice. First of all, I chose the more expensive room with a "view" and my view is of dirt and piping because they are under construction. Would have been nice if they disclosed that when I booked it. Their restaurant is also under construction and they just switched their tv channels. There are a whopping 50 channels. No guide, you have to flip through each channel to find out what's on and there are no good channels and not even an option to buy any movies. One night down, 2 more to go until I can get out of here!!! read more

We spent our anniversary here and we got a good rate at Orbitz, though it didn't come with breakfast. It made up for it by giving us a cheese and fruit platter, discount for the exorbitant parking fee, and great service. We enjoyed the heated pool too! Wouldn't mind staying here again! read more

When you think of the Hilton.. you think of clean and comfortable rooms. However, my room was infested with fleas. I'm aware that this is a pet friendly faculty but they should have specified pet rooms. The staff were quick to relocate me to another room. It felt like it was a hassle for them to do so and an inconvenience. They did not offer any refund or credit for my inconvenience not to mention my stuff my have fleas now. As a result, most likely will stay away from Hilton brand in the future. read more

Part 2 of same review - I ran out of space, sorry! The wedding party was loud. Late into the night, well past "quiet hours." We, as a group, had been admonished to keep our children quiet, to keep them close to us at all times, to have them in their rooms at 9pm if under 18 (the ages ranged from baby to young adults in their 20s) & many other things that were quite unusual for the other (lovely!) Hiltons we have had conferences in. The wedding party however, were not chastised as so many of our kids were. Seems if you are a drunken adult NOT a part of the conference, one can climb & then FALL off the huge, silver statue of a horse there. One can leave cans of Coors about the hotel. One can throw up in the ladies room & outside the elevator - no problem! But kids, skipping, playing, cartwheeling? Oh, no, no...not acceptable. I know I'm biased, but really, we have kids that are respectful, used to being treated with respect & as the equals they are (equal is NOT "same" btw). Some poor conference stepped in the vomit, I hate to say. Others have stories too, about the unbalanced guest care, the hypocrisy. They are telling their own tales, however. Next night, sitting outside on the patio & my mom is leaving soon, we want to have a dinner together before she leaves. The waiter comes out & asks for her credit card! We were ordering DINNER, as we had before, & never have we had to give over a credit card (here or anywhere else)! These days, we are taught to never do this, it's bad enough that we "have" to for an open tab for just drinks. But who pays for their dinner before they even order it? Was this policy put in place that same day, as it hadn't ever happened before, patio, bar, restaurant or otherwise? My mom refused & he, with an attitude, said that that was the only way we could order, unless we charged it to a room. My mom had checked out, but I hadn't, so I said to just put in on my room number & be done with it. We ordered. He asks what we'd like to drink, my mom gets a glass of wine & I say, nothing yet, but I'll order something soon. This really became much worse. He reached over & began taking my daughter's new paper airplane & I stopped him & said, "Oh, that's not trash, that's my daughter's airplane!" He said, "It's our menu." I said, "Now it's a paper airplane." And he said, "This is the second time this has happened, these are our menus, you know!" Hmm. So the story was out? And the manager said nothing to me at all about not doing this again, they had seen us playing tic tac toe & hangman on other ones, no one had ever said to us that we shouldn't do that, & as I said, they were those flimsy, regular paper ones. No laminate, not cardstock, not thick paper - cheap, paper-paper! The kind that many places actually MAKE kid's menus on that have printing so kids can play on them & whatnot. But had we been asked, of COURSE we wouldn't have used them for play. But you all need to ask & tell us, how can we know otherwise, especially if it had been done before & no one said anything? Then he says, with a smirk no less (& no, I'm not kidding or over exaggerating) "You know you can't have outside drinks here. What's in your cup?" Really?? Ok, here's my mistake, & I will own up to it & own the situation. I had a beer. Yes, my own beer. In a plastic cup. A cup that actually I had been using previously with beer I ordered from the bar. I ordered a lot of drinks & a lot of food there. Was I supposed to have it? No, & yes, I know that. And yes, I broke a rule & for that, I admit to being in the wrong. But this...person was RUDE. At this point, I'm pissed off. Each thing had been adding up & I just broke & I said, with equal 'tude, "Ginger ale," & smirked right back at him. He said, "That's not ginger ale, ginger ale doesn't foam like that. You are not allowed to have that here." So...I lost it. I said, "Fine, I cancel my order!" & I left. And left I did. I had it with all of this. I checked out a day early & went home. I will NOT go back there again. I hope the conference is elsewhere next year (it's pretty much an annual event that we REALLY look forward to each year) because I really dread going there again. The 2 wonderful waitresses (both Latinas, & man do I wish I had their names!) were LOVELY - they deserve a raise & respect. The 2 bartenders I dealt with? Sheesh, take some customer service training & learn some respect. Front desk - same with you all. You know? All the women I ran into were GREAT...interesting. Those 2 were just GREAT. But I really will have to consider if I will go back. Both my kids don't want to, & they LOVE the conference(s). The people in our group were GREAT & we love them to bits - but I'm not sure it'll be enough to have to possibly cope with this kind of rude behavior again. I hope they take a lesson from the AMAZING staff at the Hilton Vancouver, WA...Time to review a few more places, in fact! Happier ones! read more

One of my worst experiences at a hotel, and trust me, I've been to my fair share of hotels! I used to live from hotel to hotel due to my work. Anyway, this is worse than a quality inn! The rooms were small and uncomfortable. Not only that it's overpriced, the service there was horrible! The only thing they had was a beautiful exterior! It's like Mean Girls, beautiful exterior, extremely UGLY interior. I'd have to say though, the outside is gorgeous, especially the pool area and the bar area. They have this seating area outside of the bar with a fire place, a lot of trees and flowers, and beautiful lights that lit up the pool giving you a very nice view. Too bad, that's the only good thing about this hotel. I would never come back to this place, or possibly any other Hiltons! read more

I called once and wrote them 4 times to resolve a breakfast charge which was charged onto my credit card but was not ordered or consumed by us. I keep getting replies with them being apologetic and will take care of it in 72 hours, weeks passed, they say another 72 hours, weeks passed, apologizes and will resolve in 72 hours. Now it's been a month and a half, still no resolution. And my stay started as we walked into the room after checking in and there was a rotten banana and orange peel on the desk. Bed seems to be lied on or sat on after it was made. Sure this was taken care of and were apologetic but after we came back from the trip, we realized we were over charged by almost $60. This is when I called in and was told about a breakfast charge which we never had. It is ridiculous for hilton to have sent us to a room which has been stayed in and on top of that to charge us something we never got. Worse of all is no one was able to resolve this issue after call and emails writing back and forth and just keeps asking for 72 hours. The last email asked for 3 business days. What a surprise, it's passed 3 business days and I still haven't heard back. This is the worst hotel experience for me, ever. read more

BACKGROUND: My bf used priceline to book a hotel and Hilton accepted our offer of paying $90/night, which we stayed 2 nights. We got there and the hotel is across from the horse tracks, which is cool if you're going to the races, but if not, it's annoying with the amount of traffic that occurs here. I mean who has a race on a friggin' Tuesday?! The front area and apparently the hotel was renovated from what I was told by the front desk guy. He was friendly and gave a nice concise tour of what's open/closed in their hotel (i.e. breakfast, restaurant, pool, etc.). On Monday, we checked in and went to our assigned room. I was taking a quick rinse before we were heading out and that's when we realized they put us in a handicap room. It's great to know they accommodate it, but we are not handicapped. FIRST, for being called renovated, the bathroom was done so shoddily, my 8 year old sister could do a better job in arts and crafts. The cocking was hastily done and there was rust on the handle bars in the shower. Also the tile that was holding the handicap seating in the shower was cracking. When I was rinsing the shower head kept swiveling so the floor got SOAKED because the water was spraying out of the see-through top part of the shower curtain. MEANING THAT IF YOU WERE HANDICAPPED, IT WOULD BE MORE INCONVENIENT TO EVEN SHOWER IN THERE BECAUSE WATER WAS ALL OVER THE FLOOR AND YOU'D PROBABLY SLIP IF YOU DIDN'T HOLD THE SHOWER HEAD THE WHOLE TIME. When we got back, we requested another room because obviously there's no way of showering comfortably with a sprinkler as a shower head. They gave us another room which was also handicapped and the toilet was fucking dirty as shit. The seat was yellow and disgusting. The tile was cracking in this room as well and it was a shoddy job in general. I feel bad for the handicapped who would even have to deal with such horrible conditions especially if they paid full priced for this hotel. We called a third time to switch and said we don't care about having a king sized bed because it seemed like that's what they were trying to accommodate. They said all the other king sized bed rooms were taken. Fine, whatever we just said it doesn't matter, we just don't want a handicapped room. HERE COMES THE BEST PART: We got our room and it had a king sized bed. MEANING: THEY ARE FUCKING LIARS. I don't care if they accidentally put us in a handicapped room the first time but to do it again and then lie about the bed issue?! Really what kind of business are you conducting? Just because we used priceline, you don't have to accept the offer and then put us in a room that isn't accommodating to our needs when you are the one NEEDING BUSINESS. I tried calling the hotel Wednesday, after we left and left a message for the manager but had not a reply since. My message was a simple please call me back we had stayed at your hotel and wanted to have a couple comments. Haven't heard from the asshole since and today is Saturday. Really awesome Hilton. Bravo! I hope you guys get replaced by Marriott, at least they keep up to their name and standard. I rather stay at a Vagabond then here again, at least I know what I'm paying for. read more
