This place is pretty nice. The hotel is very clean and so is the room. The hotel has a nice restaurant and the food was good. Micah the bartender was pretty cool and our waitress, Paige, was very attentive. The pool area was very nice too. Came here to attend a concert in Solana Beach. I would come back here again. read more

Stayed here one night and walked to a concert at the fair. Very clean resort and the lounging area and pool were excellent. Drinks are a little to expensive and they charge you to bring a drink to the pool (Lame). Someone hit and run my new Lexus. Cost me $1000 and the $18 parking fee LOL. If Hilton had cameras and it would have captured the suspect plate and my insurance would have not charged the $1000 deductible. read more

Nice location and they did a good job on the remodel. It took forever for housekeeping to make up the room each day. 3 - 3:30 is just too late in my book. read more

Horse Show goers in Del Mar...this is a must! We have been staying here for years. The updates they have done to the rooms and general ambiance are great! It's super close to the show grounds (Race Track & Show Park). The food is good and bar is good as well! Super easy for after long show days...parking is easy (don't loose your room key! You need it to get out of the parking lot) Overall a good stay for the horse shows! read more

The bed was comfortable and the room was clean but they charged me for EVERYTHING even the water that we did not take from the room ($12 for two water bottles) they charged me for parking, I did not even park in their lot. Housekeeping knocked on our door twice before 10 am, if Im not mistaken, check out was at 12, at least that's what I was told when I made my reservation. Don't knock on my door before 10 on a Sunday. $250 later we had a decent stay and a semi good nights sleep. Won't come here again. I've had better experiences with a motel 6 in oceanside. read more

Since I travel a bit for work, I have stayed at a variety of nice hotels. However, my stay at this Hilton was not a great experience. First, the hotel is not very handicap accessible. They have ramps but it's like a maze you have to figure out and only one entrance with a ramp in the self parking lot in the back. Then, they only have like one elevator by the lobby so if your room is upstairs you have to walk from the back of self parking to the lobby, to the elevator and back to your room. I guess I could have asked for a closer room, but I didn't really realize the issue until I was in my room. Next, I was woken up by guest services at 1am asking if I ordered glasses even though I had a do not disturb sign on (they were for the room above me). When I mentioned this issue the front desk person just responded with an "I'm sorry" which I thought was strange for a Hilton, there was no "oh wow, how about we get your parking bill or room service bill." Since I was woken up in the middle of the night I slept past my alarm clock and called down to check out late, which they quickly accommodated. However, at noon, again with my do not disturb sign on a got repeated knocks from maid service, once I dressed I answered and they asked when I was checking out. What's the point of calling guest services for a late check-out if I'm just going to get asked again by maid service? I didn't receive a bill under my door for parking and room service charges and when I checked out, no bill was offered to me. I was planning on asking but forgot because I was explaining my 1am issue, although I don't really feel I should have to ask, it should just be provided. I do love their warm cookies and milk and most employee were very nice. The rooms are also nice and large. read more

Add me to the discontents. I had been staying at the Hilton Del Mar for eight years five to seven times a year. I am a gold diamond member. Early September I was directed by a valet attendant to park by a curb to check in. The hotel has no cameras in front, no check in spaces and no signs at its front entrance. After checking in I returned to my car and was told by a nice guest that my car was hit and he reported it to valet. Valet did not take down this guests name, phone number, or the license plate of the hit and run driver. Beware they will not reimburse me in any way on my deductible. To Adam I think I met you once with Dan the bar manager. He is one of the bright spots as is Cindy in the VIP lounge. However the uncaring attitude of every one else is something I will not deal with any more. read more

Papier Mache -- it's not just for kindergarten art projects anymore. Seriously, the hotel is only 3 stories high but the walls are so damn thin! Either that or this Hilton has even nastier plumbing issues than Paris herself. And then they try to make you pay for parking even though this place is in the middle of nowhere. Nice pool though. read more

Light's on, nobody's home. That expresses how this place is run. Planned a meeting here and had to actually leave after the first night due to the wifi problems. If you need Wifi, don't stay here. The front desk lies to the patrons about things that are happening. I actually say a young woman that we had spoken twice to about the wifi problems play dumb when another patron brought the issue up. They allow dogs, which is OK, but they are not too quick to clean up the poop on the rear entrances. One of my friends actually had his water turned off. Don't come early for your room as they apparently don't clean the vacated rooms until later in the afternoon. They may tell you they will have a room for you and will call you - don't trust them. If you want to lose your temper, this is the hotel to stay in. One of my Board members was told his room was going to be ready in 40 minutes, two hours later we ran into him screaming at the front desk. The patio is nice and the bar area is good. The breakfast buffet is fine and the beds are comfortable. Give them a 4 out of 10, but the effort of virtually everyone other than the bell staff and the guys who do valet parking leavings a lot to be desired. Not sure they appreciate that if you didn't come they all wouldn't have jobs. There needs to be much better management and perhaps this is a candidate for some TV show that could focus on hotels in need of a turnaround. The only thing they have going for them is the fact that they are right across the street from the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and you don't have to drive to go to the track. But we moved out and found a very nice Marriott property about 10 minutes away. That worked out well. FYI -if you are a meeting planner you will be embarrassed if you book a meeting here. The speakerphones didn't work and they charge you an arm and a leg for all meeting related things. The only good thing is they will throw you a complimentary cocktail party for an hour. I'd forgo that to have the wifi work for my associates. I had a lot of explaining to do and for that, I can thank the Hilton Del Mar. It's a shame as we have met there before and never had these type of issues. Hope this review spurs someone to fix this place. The renovation means nothing if you can't accommodate the basis needs of your customers, like having working wifi. read more

Pleasantly surprised how upscale this hotel is - Just was there this past weekend. First rate customer service - on par with a Four Seasons - I thought. The staff was amazing. We arrived early and they were able to accommodate an early check in - which was wonderful because we wanted to make the horse races across the street. Since we brought our lunch with us - we decided to eat in the hotel's outdoor area - which was beautiful - lots of tables with umbrellas and couches with firepits. The pool looked pretty nice - and even though it was an 82 degree day - only one person was there. One big perk was the complimentary shuttle van that will take you anywhere for free within a 5 mile radius - that was really great and saved us on cabfare. The room was comfortable, spacious and immaculate. Okay - my only complaint is the cost - they charge an extra $18 to self park and they charge like 4 taxes on your stay - which really added up and I thought was ridiculous. But all in all - aside from the cost - I give this place thumbs up. read more

Ehhh, room was great, property is shaped like a horseshoe and confusing to navigate. $18.00 for parking!!??? This is on the outskirts of San Diego why would anyone pay $18.00 for parking? However the place was spotless I give them that. The bellman got an earful from me (and prob the manager) he was beyond rude and lacked the basic customer service skills. I'd consider staying here again but I'd call a cab before I paid $188.00 for parking. read more

This Hilton is pretty run-down, I have to say. I was also bummed that the gym equipment needed service badly, one of the treadmills was completely out of service and the other equipment was really noisy. Wouldn't stay here again. read more

I made a reservation for this hotel through Bringfido.com, which turned out to be through travelocity. It was a good deal for such a nice hotel; - $129.00 a night, although the $50 fee per dog for the stay added an additional $100.00, which makes the per-night fee $162.00. This turned out to be very misleading. The hotel charges $17.00 a night for self-parking, which I did not see mentioned on the website where I made the reservation. They website indicated that microwaves and refrigerators were available. It did not indicate anywhere that I saw that the charge for a microwave is $15.00 a night and the charge for a refrigerator is another $15.00 a night. Suddenly my bargain $129.00 a night became $176.00 a night. With the pet fee the per-night rate became $209.00. When I contacted the hotel they offered to give me the refrigerator without charge, bringing it back down to a mere $194.00 a night. Neither the hotel or travelocity would consider waiving the one-night cancellation fee, although fortunately they only counted the $129.00 plus tax. I don't really understand how tax is charged on a penalty as opposed to a room rental, but it all seemed of a piece with how this hotel does business. In the end, the $133.00 cancellation fee was about equal to the extra $47.00 a night. So I am still ahead compared to staying there. Now you've been warned. The Travelocity representative chided me for making the reservation on-line. If I had "any questions" I should have called them. Of course I was not expecting all these invisible charges and would not have had a reason to do so, probably because it has been qutie a while since I have stayed in a big corporate hotel. It is going to be even longer before I do that again. Now I will go make a reservation with a nice inexpensive hotel that treats its customers with respect. You've been warned. Ask a lot of questions about what is included in what you are paying. read more

Cost for standard room + taxes on a Saturday night was ~$120 via the "hotel tonight" app. Paid almost as much for unforeseen charges ($75 pet fee + $18/day parking) as I did for the room. Rooms are travelodge-ish. Peter Thomas Roth skin/bath products (which I like). Disappointed with customer service. Tried to dispute the $75 pet fee (which I didn't think was made clear enough in advance of booking)...to no avail. read more

This review is a mix of very good and very bad. On the one hand, the grounds are beautiful and the outdoor seating is quit nice. The waterfall in front is very pretty. The fire pits outside are beautiful and relaxing. The room, on the other hand, was no more than a 2 star. It was literally highway loud, you could hear the traffic buzzing by on the 5 all night long. The shower was a handicapped shower and the bath really needs to be updated, it appears to have been neglected for a while. On the positive side, I am a Patriots fan and it was great to see some of the people I watch every season in person. The few that I encountered where extremely polite and professional. The hotel staff was also very nice with one exception. The Restaurant/lounge manager was really over the top rude to so many guests that I wouldn't be surprised if he loses his job. He absolutely has no business working in hospitality as he is the antithesis of the term. He actually kicked people out of the bar area at 10pm and told them to go to their rooms! So strange I can't imagine he wasn't a prison warden in his last position! However, on the other hand Michelle, the hostess/waitress/bartender/do everything with a smile, was 5 star! Management if you are reading this please take note. Michelle has the attitude and the people skills and you should really consider her for a higher position. Front desk staff and housekeeping were also good. If you plan to stay here make sure to ask for a room facing the pool and away from the highway. read more

Too many little critters... I will not come back. Very disappointed. It's Hilton after all...

Not sure why this hotel is not rated higher! First of all, the lobby and rooms were clean which is a big plus. Check in was a breeze. Hotel has a beautiful courtyard, sat outside watching movie last weekend in front of roaring fire pit, so cool. Bar/restaurant GREAT service, best cucumber martini yummm! Restaurant packed sat night so we ordered cheeseboard and sat out by fire pit. Breakfast was good and room service is reasonably priced. Would def go back. read more

We booked this room as we had just gotten married and wanted to take a little "honeymoon" before our real honeymoon trip later in the year to Japan. We wanted to be kind of near San Diego but this fit our price point. We selected a single King room because, well, honeymoon. We didn't read the fine print of the $20.00/day parking which was an unpleasant surprise. I kind of understand charging for parking but $20.00/day is a bit much don't you think? When we went to check in the people at the front desk were friendly but told us that we would have to downgrade to a double queen room. Never were we offered any complementary drink/food vouchers or monetary compensation due to the downgrade and we were irritated. We paid extra because we wanted the bigger bed.....if your going to downgrade our room you should at least compensate the customer. Went to our room and everything was pretty clean....found that the hotel was pretty old and you could hear everything, especially the room doors opening and closing which sounded like they were being slammed. The people in the room above us must have been walking back and forth all night long and kept us up despite the tv being on or the earphones being used with music on. The second night wasn't bad as they must have checked out. We didn't have the room cleaned when we were there because we were only staying two nights and wasn't in the hotel that much. No need to waste someone's time when its not necessary. However, after the first night we managed to run out of toilet paper (there was room for two rolls in the bathroom) and there weren't any extra rolls near the trial shampoos and lotions. Kind of a pain to have to go to the front desk to get something that should have been stocked well. They have a pretty cool lounge area outside and we were able to sit by the fire pit one night and have drinks....it was really nice and the bartender, Crystal, was great. She made recommendations based off of what I liked but they didn't have. Overall, I would only stay here again if I got a good deal. I have had better experiences at Best Western which is normally cheaper and they don't charge for parking. read more

I have to give this hotel a 1 star for customer service. While the site itself deserves at least a 3 star for cleanliness, I cannot get past the lack of professionalism exhibited by the employees. The staff would speak loudly up and down the halls starting at about 0530..and that includes vacuuming. I stayed in room 1096, very close to the Club Lounge and the staff would slam the doors often while they attempted to prepare for breakfast and the cocktail hour. Our television also had NO SIGNAL for the duration of our stay. I notified management and Tim appeared to care less. I will NEVER stay at this property again, and I recommend to any reader of this review to skip this hotel if you expect at minimum...GOOD customer service. Once the 1020 UT race is over tomorrow, I am out of here! read more

Worst hotel to stay at. When I checked in I specifically requested a room away from the freeway and the receptionist stated that your room is a long ways away from the freeway. When I looked out the window all I could see was the freeway. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything that all your neighbors have to say. There is no more customer service with Hilton it's all about the dollar. You're better off spending your money at another hotel. read more

The redone lobby is nice. I was sent to a room that is not close to the registration by a long short.. only to find my key doesn't work... bummer with all my luggage... called the front desk, put on hold so long I decided to wAlk back to reception.. in addition, the second floor reeks of mold to the point, I can't believe people stay there...I know I sound negative, but I always write positive reviews, but I can't in this situation.. I would never stay here..again.. to add insult to injury, not a slight apology. If this rom were cheap, might be another issue, but for $300 each night, ridiculous... missing the Del Mar Marriott.. a bit more expensive, but incomparable to this unfortunate property... read more

My one complaint is about parking. This Hotel is 21 miles away from downtown San Diego. When you arrive it looks like you're in the middle of nowhere, yet to park at their lot (which is next to Delmar fairgrounds) it costs $20 a night even if you are staying with them! Where is the customer loyalty!? I don't care how big the event is next door, if you're paying for a room at the hotel, you should receive free parking, "great thanks for choosing Hilton for your stay while you go to the event next door. park here for free while you go to the horse race during your stay." If people going to the event that aren't paying for a room want to park on premises, make them pay, that makes sense, that happens in LA all the time. But for a location this far away from San Diego and it's airports to charge that much for a day and night of parking is ridiculous, especially since it isn't clear when reservations are made on third party sites. I think Hilton needs to change this business practice at this location because even Motel 6 has free parking for people that have purchased a room. The TV remote didn't work but it was fixed. the air conditioning blew hot air when it was in Automatic mode. Not sure if that was fixed because we just switched it to blow cold air at all times. They gave us a complimentary breakfast buffet for those troubles and it was delicious, and Julia Roberts happened to be sitting behind us which was cool. read more

Nice hotel for the money and across the street from the race track. Excellent shuttle service.

To begin, I am not usually a yelper, but due to the transpiring events I decided to create an account just to report about my experience here. Everything started okay; overall my stay was average. It is a nice looking hotel and the people seemed friendly as well, the problem began upon checking out. Perhaps it was because I look very young & I'm not their usual client demographically..but I feel that they tried to take monetary advantage upon me checking out. At the time of my check out when they were supposed to return my deposit that they hold incase damage/charges to the room ...they had me sign a paper that I would receive 138$ in cash .. as I signed the paper I notice the man behind the desk attempting to cover the amount and when he gave me a copy of the paper (which I had to ask for because I had a weird feeling about this transaction) it said 40$ instead.. and he gave me 40$ and told me I was set to go. Fortunately I caught the real amount and called him out on it, he didn't immediately apologize and instead acted as if he hadn't noticed the mistake when I clearly saw him change the amount. Finally he blamed the booking website for the mistake and called it a "glitch". At the end he tried apologizing when the correct amount of 138$ was finally given to me but I felt discriminated yet still proceeded to be extremely nice to him despite my experience. Even though it was only 100$ that they tried shorting me, it wasn't the amount that was significant.. it was the simple act of them trying to deceive me. I will not be coming back and I expected a better experience especially given the fact of Hilton 's reputation. I highly recommend everyone read their paperwork and go over everything you sign because "mistakes" might happen. read more

I attended a meeting here and have to say everything was great! Food quality and service were spot on and the venue is beautiful. The location is great, too. It's right across from the racetrack! The hotel on the inside is rather nice and the rooms are clean that's when the pros end. Upon our arrival we were greeted with a $18.00 charge for parking my own car! Then when we arrived at the room we realized we have forgotten some toiletries. We called a total of three times before anyone even showed up to bring us what we had requested. The Wi-Fi at this hotel is sub-par for the price that you pay. Finally as we were leaving, we needed our room card to get out of the parking the panel was open all the other days if you were going to exit. We ended up calling for assistance and waited at the parking lot for over five minutes before anyone responded. When that person finally opened the panel, they did not even acknowledge that they had heard us over the intercom. Terrible customer service! read more

Room was pretty spacious, really clean. It had the amenities I needed. Check in staff was great, we went there for a party and the venue was great. Overall it was a good and comfortable experience. This is a great hotel to stay at if you want to be close as possible to the fair (literally a 5 min walk to get there) which was very convenient. The stay was super friendly especially the guy who checked us in. You know when this place is just awesome? Track Season! Located directly across the street from the Del Mar race track, this Hilton offers shuttles to and from. The bar is very nice, and you can drink out by the centrally located pool. The food is much better than you'd find at comprable hotels, as they have their own chef. Prices are a touch higher than I like, but worth it. If you get a chance, try the BLT made on buttery brioche with applewood smoked bacon. Holy crap its good. This is where I park, eat, and stay during those horse racing days in Del Mar. Love it, its as good as it gets! read more

If you plan on spending any time in the room other than sleeping I'd continue reading. If you're in and out for work / races - then you don't need to see the full review as it does the job. Some of the reviews are spot on. Number one issue is noise. You hear EVERYTHING! Was woken up at 7am by what sounded like a wrestling match in the room above us. You also hear any walking so clear. Also heard maids slamming doors alllllll morning/ early afternoon (done by around 1pm). And then someone must have gone through to check to make sure each room was serviced so doors were open and slammed up and down the whole hallway - one after the other. We're in room 2052 (jr suite) which is at the center of hallways in each direction and in between the maids closet and the stairs, so we're surrounded by noise. I'd avoid this room if you can as the stairs are so loud that it's like luggage is being thrown down them at any point in the day or night. Pros: - Great martini made by Brad at the Coastal Kitchen Bar - Friendly staff - Remodeled modern room - Right off the 5 freeway Cons: - Noise! - Only 1 or 2 elevators max - Room service food was so dry we had to choke down a chicken sandwich and the potato flat bread. Too tired to complain. read more

The property is located in a affluent beach community in northern San Diego and is hidden in plain site right off the 5 freeway. Spacious and clean, our room overlooking the fantastic and warm pool was so pretty with the sunset...and the staff. Where do they get their chocolate chip cookies???? Omg. Probably one of the best cookies I ever had.

What kind of hotel only supplies a fridge based on request? When they brought one in, the tiny fridge looked like it had been dropped from a 3 story building. Both phones didn't work. Booked a room for two days through Priceline for $50/night. I was a bit bummed that I got this hotel after reading the reviews on Yelp, but surprisingly, my hotel experience was great with no complaints. There is valet parking ($17), but you can self-park your car ($14). I really don't think valet parking is necessary as the valet parking is right NEXT to the self-parking. Plus, there are a lot of self-parking spaces. There really is no need to pay the extra $3 and then the extra tips you'd have to pay each time you pick up your car...but to each his own. Our room had a king bed and a flat screen tv. Wow! I've been to some 4 star hotels and they STILL have tube tvs, so this was a pleasant surprise for me. The decor is modern and nice...I didn't find anything tacky. We had all the complimentary toiletries, and even though we barely used any on our first night, our maid gave us brand new ones when she cleaned our rooms. =] I really liked their check out - the morning of our check out, they slipped a receipt stating that I had already been cleared of any charges and there was no need for me to go to the front desk. Quick, easy, and simple. For $50/night, I was very happy and satisfied with this hotel. read more
