My experience at this hotel was horrific and will never make reservations there again. I had reserved my room about 2 months in advance to show up on scheduled date and have them tell me that they "actually booked me at the hotel up the street because they had an accident with the room" i did not get a missed call, a voicemail, or email about this situation. I showed up to the hotel after a wedding with my husband and my 4 year old daughter ready to relax after a long day of festivities; This situation made it the worse hotel situation in history of our hotel stays. The manager didnt even offer to anything to make the situation better, he basically told us he would refund us the money on monday and he would open the gate for us, VERY unprofessional. My expectaions for the Hilton in Del Mar definitely were high, I will never step foot in that hotel again. BAD MANAGEMENT. read more

One of the better Hiltons that I've stayed in. Nothing special about the room, other than the fact that you could've fit a queen size bed in the bathroom. The one thing that I'd like to point out is that the gym was actually pretty good. Dumbbells up to 50 lbs and three top quality treadmills with TVs built into them. The pool area is a cool place to chill (the hotel surrounds the entire pool). Let me go check my Hilton Honors points... read more

I cannot say enough about the Hilton Del Mar! We hosted an event this weekend in the triple crown room and with a personal high expectation of what I expected.. I must say it was surpassed. The service was over the top incredible. Mariano, Sylvia & Valentina, Cesar & Arnulfo were extraordinary! Thank you for accommodating this special event and we will absolutely see you next year!! 5+ stars! read more

Beautiful location. Came here for a meeting/did not stay here overnight. The parking is $4/hour if you are there for a short time. Easy in and out. I would not want to play my stay here during the San Diego Fair time period or you will be stuck in all the crazy traffic but otherwise the indoor restaurant was beautiful with a nice view of the center courtyard! There are also lots of restaurants around the hotel. read more

I've stayed at many Hilton's, but probably won't be going back to this one. The location is kind of odd, good for racing season I guess but not much else. There is only 1 very small combo bar/restaurant (didn't even realize it was a restaurant. I asked the front desk if there was a restaurant and apparently I was in it while I was in the bar). We ate there (small menu, ok food) and then went to walk around. Usually when Hiltons are in weird locations they make the grounds nice so at least you have something to walk around and look at. Not at this location. Nowhere to walk, nothing to look at. Nothing within walking distance either. It was an early night. Like I said, won't be returning. read more

I have been staying at this hotel for years and it seems to be going downhill. Aside from all of that, Today I reserved a room for 1 night. While booking My room on the Hilton's website ," not a third party booking agency " I had some questions and I decided to call the hotel. The Hilton employee that I spoke with convinced me to book over the phone instead. When all was said and done, I was told that my AAA discount or government discount could not be applied. The total came out to almost $100 more than the check out price on their actual website. I explained this to the employee and he rudely replied well, "We only have a few rooms left." After I hung up the phone, I was able to book my room and apply those discounts for almost $100 less. I'm staying one night and giving him the benefit of the doubt, he may have applied my parking pass to the total. Regardless that is ridiculous that this hotel tries to scam its customers that much in price. To everyone reading this, do not book over the phone at this hotel!!! I wouldn't expect this pettiness from a prestigious name like the Hilton. read more

I can't believe this place gets away with charging people $170+ per night, what a rip! Then they have the audacity to charge you $17 a night for parking, as if the location is so premium, what a joke. You're in the middle of nowhere, seriously, you're surrounded by a horse racetrack and fairgrounds, which amounts to giant parking lots when there's nothing going on there. The hotel is also within ear shot of the freeway. There's no free breakfast and the free wifi is terrible ~ See, if you don't pay for the upgraded wifi you get an incredibly slow connection and if you are on the web for too long you'll get kicked off. The grounds of the hotel are nice and the rooms are spacious, but for that much money I expect resort-like settings. Extra star rewarded because the customer service was fantastic, never struggled finding a bellman and we enjoyed the free shuttle service. read more

Lobby is nice, people working there seemed pleasant. -- Lots of noise coming from the room next door. They didn't seem to be speaking particularly loudly, so that's a worry. -- There was a WEIRD sound coming from the refrigerator. It made sounds like someone was trying to get in or rummaging around the room. I woke up a lot during the night. -- Really nice courtyard area with a fire. -- The A/C kicked up loudly and with lots of rushing air. The rushing air sound doesn't bother me, so I should have seen if I could leave the fan all night to cover the refrigerator sounds. -- I hate hotels that "short sheet" the top sheets. I think that they think it looks good to have the top sheet lower than normal. I had taken the blanket off and realized that the sheet only came up to my chest. I had to get up and pull the rest of the top sheet out to cover my shoulders. An okay place to stay, but not a must-go-to. read more

I come here every year with a group of friends and the first thing I asked myself this year was what happened to the horse statue in the lobby? Management, bring it back out! The removal of artwork from the lobby (i.e. horse statute and ceiling murals) takes away the classic feeling of the Del Mar Hilton. I was shocked to see the changes to this hotel on my annual trip to Del Mar. Hilton tried too hard renovating a hotel known for its classic eloquence. I'm all for change, but Hilton went too far on this one. On a positive note the staff is extremely friendly and the rooms are still comfortable. The prime location, right across the street from the racetrack, makes this hotel a superior choice to others in the area. read more

04/17/15 Me and my wife always stay at Hilton properties. We live in Northern California so we've been to quite a few in the Bay Area and in the Central Valley. The Hilton San Diego/Del Mar is by far our most favorite out of them all. It's a beautiful hotel, with spacious rooms, comfortable beds, fantastic guest service, and a great location. The on site restaurant is awesome! I thought the layout of the hotel was intriguing and the garden area outside towards the center of the hotel looked more than serene. We had a great time during our stay. Seeing my wife so happy with our accommodations was definitely satisfying. Yes, we did pay for parking. Yes, the restaurant was not inexpensive. In my opinion the expenditures were well worth it. By the way, our bathroom was HUGE! Dual sinks, with the actual toilet inside the inner bathroom. Very impressive even for a nice hotel (staying in a room only 1 size above standard). We were treated very well by the front desk staff throughout our stay. Say hello to Hycinth for me when you pass by the front desk (thank you for your excellent guest service!) Overall I have to give this hotel 5 stars, despite other reviews I've seen that didn't. We'll definitely be coming back here when we visit the San Diego area again. read more

Out of control guests that the management does nothing about despite many complaints from guests. NO SECURITY except the management. Teenagers blasting rap music with profanity and the N*word. Out of control entitled teenagers using the N* word at the pool around small children and families. The teenagers taking over the pool, hitting guests with the football they were throwing. Then the teenagers moving to the patio and doing the same thing. The management did nothing to stop this after many guests complained. Terrible food, poor service, dirty. Never coming back here. We stayed her for 13 nights for a COVID approved social distancing Horse Show. The hotel staff is great but the hotel has gone down hill since I last stayed here. The first rooms we had we infested with mice and ants. We could not change rooms because we were told there were no other connecting rooms and we needed connecting rooms. Three times they cleaned the room and in the morning I would find mice droppings around the TV and on the nightstand by the bed. Three times they also sprayed for ants that were coming out of the tub's faucet and behind the toilet in the bathroom and the ants continued. Finally after 6 nights we were given new rooms. The hotel is extremely loud at night with excessive noise coming from the pool area every night. The last night we stayed there was a huge bat mitzvah party with music and dancing with a DJ in the pool area practicing zero social distancing. Throughout our stay no one wears a mask in the hallways and with the super thin floors you can hear everything from the room above. Very disappointing since we came expecting a nice Hilton that would be quiet for schoolwork with quiet evenings and close to the horse show. We experienced quite the opposite. read more

I actually really liked this hotel for our 3 day getaway weekend. 3 starts instead of 5, for a couple of reasons; 1. Stained sheets, c'mon. 2. Parking was somewhere around $20/day. overall, ok. Would not be my first choice but I would return. read more

I stayed at the Del Mar Hilton a while back because we planned on taking a San Diego vacation but wanted to hit the Del Mar fair at the time and this place is right across the street. The rooms were comfortable and the employees were hospitable. The pool at the time was closed due to cleaning but the day before I thought there was a weird yellow color (ewww). Being as it is across the street from the fairgrounds and the racetrack I can see why they charge for parking so they don't get people trying to park there, but it should be validated for guests. When I was there I wanted to pay cash at the booth for the $14 daily parking fee so I avoided using my room key to open the gate but when I got my hotel bill they automatically charged me anyway. They were courteous enough to remove it though. Since it was 4th of July weekend, we hit the front lawn and watched the fireworks from the fairgrounds with a bunch of other hotel guests. If they got rid of the parking fee I'd bump up my review a star. read more

I just arrived and I swear it's the most beautiful, peaceful place I've been all week. I needed this. I brought my two dogs with me and they were greeted with open arms which makes me so happy. it's hard enough having two Chihuahua mixes, which no one could understand until they have their own, but most dog friendly hotels aren't really friendly. so awesome. finally I can relax. read more

Gorgeous place to hold an event! I was impressed with the several locations here. This hotel is easily missed from the road too. I'd never know it was across the way from the Del Mar farigrounds! Worth a look if you are looking for an event location of medium size. They have a beautiful ballroom with cool light fixures and two very nice outdoor areas, as well as a couple open indoor areas as well. read more

Excellent hotel, Love it and I will consider the hotel 4 and half * myself. The only negative thing about this hotel is right next to the high way; therefore you don't have nice view. But the room was very clean and it looks new. The hallway is very clean also. Excellent location right next to high way. Great swimming pool. Bar tender is very nice also. Love it love this hotel. Even it does take about 15 to 20 minutes to drive to downtown San Diego. I still think it's worth it. When you stay in a clean hotel it does make you feel fully rested read more

Sorry, but this place looks shiny and remodeled on the outside, the inside (the room) was not good, even with Diamond status. We just stayed there last night. The bed- not comfortable. I could not get a good night sleep. The heater- not working. We cranked it up to 78 degrees and it was still cold in the room. The shower- bad remodel job. The shower head had no pressure. The knob was ridiculous to operate and drain pieces were falling apart. Parking- parking had gates and guards watching. But going from the parking to the hotel are about 12 stairs. You have to lug all your luggage up these stairs. This hotel is suppose to be in a fancy side of town. Sorry, but this one just doesn't cut it. read more

Attended a recently conference at this hotel and Currently being renovated and so quite a bit going on with noise and various projects every where. Despite this annoyance staff attempted to be very attentive and accommodating. It should be lovely when completed and this could have been a horrible experience which it definitely was not. Staff make this hotel a worthy stay. Rooms were clean and well appointed. Room service was prompt and plentiful. Hot tub had a lot of grit on the bottom. read more

Recently I had the pleasure to stay the Hilton Del Mar and really enjoyed my stay. I was able to check in early and the front desk was very friendly, answering all my questions I had about the area. The room was ok, but a little dated. I booked a king room and although it was dated I still enjoyed my stay as it had the basic necessities that I needed like a mini-fridge, toiletries, coffee maker, etc. The bed was very comfortable in the room that I had and the room came with a great view of the courtyard outside. A couple of things I would like to see are an updated remote control for the tv and tv guide on screen. I opted for maid service each day and was able to come back to a clean room each day after work. The room was clean, toiletries refreshes, coffee restocked, and the bed made up perfectly. The hotel offers a restaurant, coffee shop, and bar ran by Coastal Kitchen. I enjoyed the Starbucks coffee served at the coffee bar in the mornings and a nice cold Green Flash draft in the evenings when the coffee bar converts into a bar. The happy hour prices at the bar are really good, but can get pretty expensive afterwards. Service was great in the restaurant and coffee bar. I love the fact that Hilton Del Mar offers shuttle service within 5 miles of the hotel. The concierge and shuttle drivers were awesome; very friendly and ready to serve you transportation needs. Because of the shuttle and the staff's recommendations I was able to go out each night for dinner and explore different areas and beaches. If taking the shuttle, make sure you tip your driver. Now for the bad. The bad is the parking at the hotel; they charge $20 a day for self parking. After paying $199 a night for the room I find it excessive to even charge for parking, much less $20 a day. Overall it's a great hotel and I look forward to returning in a few weeks. read more

Totally confused! As a person who practically (unproudly) lives out of hotels, I can tell you that the layout of this hotel is awful. You'll walk in a circle around the elevator just to figure out where it is. The self-parking (that you need to pay for) is all the way in the back, not near the front lobby (where you check in). You'll have to haul your luggage all the way around the building to check in in front-- unless someone with a key card lets you in. I got lucky; another guest saw me and opened the back door for me to help save me the trouble once he saw me and my suitcase. The hotel and amenities were nice-- don't get me wrong. I knocked off the stars down to two due to the layout. It's extremely inconvenient and confusing. read more

Right next to the Race Track and pretty conveniently located if you're in the Del Mar area. Ended up coming here in February for a 2 night stay during a Superbowl party, and overall, it got the job done. Nothing too fancy, and standard Hilton amenities. I ordered room service for a late night snack one night, and turns out the room number printed on my phone was wrong since it ended up going to another room, but they were quick to send out the order to the right place, and were quite apologetic for the same. It is located approximately 30 minutes away from SAN (San Diego International), depending on traffic, and overall, is in a pretty good location. The one downside was when I noticed a roach meandering down the hallway, but I guess that's to be expected at most hotels these days, so I told the front desk and assume they took care of it. read more

Every time I didn't walk around flashing my VIP card (which was almost always the case), sI seemed to be treated like less than human... Bathroom shower drains were not working well. I left a note in the room of that fact my first night there and it seemed to get worse the next night. I'd be less harsh except this is a Hilton--with the Hilton reputation. read more

Frequent Hilton brand vacationer and HHonors member. Remodel is nice but have stayed in much better Hilton hotels. Bathrooms are small, A/C too loud and no easy way to bring your luggage to your room (not counting valet/bellman). I had to push bag cart to the other side of hotel to access ramp, for modern ADA ramps are not existent. Two persons at front desk both directed me to park and carry my luggage to an entrance only accessible by stairs. Normally I don't mind, but when with the whole family, 10 trips up/downstairs is not cool. Pool was well kept, but not the friendliest for younger children. Not necessarily a negative or positive, just putting out there. Given our stay was during busy holiday weekend, price was well suited compared to others. read more

We reserved two rooms; in one of the rooms the TV did not work it kept freezing had we wanted to watch a movie it wouldn't have been possible. Other guests were complaining of TV not working as well. The other room the bath tub was clogging with dirty water up to the ankles. The AC wasn't working. We were focusing on the hot tub coming here but it was another disappointment because it was not working. Bringing your own snacks, they won't allow it nowhere near the patio. They had my group move from one spot to another in the patio because it bothered them that we had food. It wasn't a big deal, but we could've been told clearly and asked politely to move somewhere else however we kept being stared at it was really uncomfortable, until finally someone came to talk to us saying to keep things out of sight. Then another person comes and complains about more stuff. Then a third person staring us down it was so obvious and uncomfortable. Finally someone else asks if we can move somewhere else, which we did without question, why couldn't they have asked that in the first place? Their communication and treatment towards us had much to desire. The heaters were not working and they gave such a hard time to even get some next to us after they told us to move. We complied, we were not making noise we were not making a mess. It's understandable given that they had a restaurant however we were not in the restaurant we were in the patio we're told the area is only for guests....so we're not guests? This was really disappointing. We did have a good time, but not due to their services. read more

The GOOD: - recently remodeled. The lobby is very modern and so are the rooms - location. Across the street from the racetrack, and minutes to the beach - friendly service. Everybody was really nice and helpful - the rooms were small but modern and clean. Flat screen tv with hbo and Cinemax. - great pool/outdoor area - breakfast buffet was awesome - good wifi The BAD: - not many elevators = lots of walking/stairs. Can be inconvenient with luggage - $16 to self park? I guess I get it because of proximity to track - hot water issues in my room. Didnt always work Overall I really liked this hotel and would stay here again. read more

The room was fine, but $18.00 parking fee per day? Are you fucking kidding me??? I found the service (front desk and bar staff) to be surprisingly subpar for a Hilton. I added a star because the jumbo buffalo wings from the lobby's bar menu were outstanding and the tv's in the rooms include 5 or 6 HBO channels. read more

Great location with lots to see and experience. Rooms have been updated and are spacious and well appointed. On site restaurant is decent but a bit expensive even for the area, but the nearby options are good and slightly more affordable so there are sufficient options. Great stay. Had a lovely room in May for three days, great view. Took our points and we got the room for $80/night with tax. Restaurant is delicious and not over-priced. Just returned from a 5 day stay at the Hilton Del Mar, and I cannot say enough good things about this place! I was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews on here from prior guests - but when I got there, I had a wonderful visit! The service was absolutely AMAZING - everyone from the valet drivers (all of whom were very cute by the way), to the front desk clerks, to the servers, to the night manager went ABOVE and BEYOND anything I could have ever hoped for. The grounds were absolutely amazing with waterfalls, a fire pit, beautiful pool and spa, etc. We loved it. I have stayed in many, many hotels across the country and honestly can tell you that the Hilton Del Mar is tops. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The one and ONLY complaint I have is the $14 per day charge for parking........ in my opinion, if you are paying $130/night for the room, they should waive the parking charge, but - it is what it is..... But as I said, it was the OUTSTANDING service and the friendly staff that will keep me coming back if I'm ever in the area again. read more

Terrible service, dirty rooms and managers just don't give a darn. Been coming here for years and the service has gone down hill fast. Safe to say, they don't care about out the facility or how its ran. Food is absolutely terrible!! Do NOT get the pepperoni flatbread its so bad you will gag. They also put a piece of paper on my hot cheese so when they brought it to us it all got stuck to the paper and all we had was soggy bread. Yuck. Not to mention we tried to order three different things on the menu and they kept saying they didn't have any cashews or fresh lettuce for our order. Shows how they run the kitchen and how fresh everything is. The windows in our rooms were so dirty it was hard to look out and seen any view. Safe to stay this is last resort if you need a place to go once a year for the forth of July for 250$ a night. Thanks Hilton but we would rather go to a motel 8 for better service. read more

As someone who stays in Hilton properties quite frequently (gold member) I was disappointed with my recent stay at this property. Bar staff was quite nice, and the lobby and public areas outside are beautiful. The hallways already look a little worn, and there was a real funny construction/spoiled food smell in one or two of them. Also, there was trash and room service trays left for over 24 hours in the hallway we were in (maybe that was the source of the smell?) The fridge in the club room was no longer cold, which meant that all of the milk in there for breakfast had gone sour and nobody noticed - it was still being served. Also, the hotel is right across from the fairgrounds and the weekend we were there it was hammered by many groups using the fairgrounds. A lot of them had club room access, so the very small club room was completely overwhelmed for breakfast. It isn't a bad hotel, per say, just not up to the normal high Hilton standards. read more

This is a good business hotel or a pit stop for families who are traveling. Lovely sitting areas outside, and the rooms are attractive, pretty well appointed but if you have the sliding glass door window open on a weekend evening, there may be pool noise from parties or bar area. Yet security is good to act fast and take care of noisy groups. Oddly someone was holding a frat party with a dozen people on a top floor balcony that was trying to be discreet by wrapping balcony rails with bed sheets yet used christmas lights to make it decorative, and well, for people over three feet tall, it's not like the dozen people standing on balcony at same time were exactly invisible nor inaudible, but then it was NOT anything like Hard Rock Hotel...... the pluses -- sweet balcony seating for first floor facing the pool, very attractive bathroom with separate toilet area but the tub itself had a broken bath tub stopper and there was black mold around the overflow plate (blech), there's also a fridge, very helpful desk area with comfy Herman Miller chair........ bar tenders are real friendly, concierge aims to please, maid staff are considerate and attentive the cons -- hard to find location if you're not familiar with the area and are driving late at night and miss a turn so could end up for an hour driving around in circles so best to plant yourself at the hotel while light outside.... I would have stayed an extra night had we not lost two hours driving around in circles trying to return to hotel after going out to dinner.......... there's also an eighteen dollar parking fee for what should be included in the room considering the location is off the beaten path also, pet friendly hotel... saw lots of dogs being walked outside...... read more

Great location to the track! HORRIBLE service in the bar/outside restaurant. Food is Way TOO Expensive. Dogs are allowed to sit in a chair at the bar and wander around outside unattended while you're eating. NO SERVICE DOG WOULD DO THAT. Dogs seem to have more rights than people.
