My husband and I have been to Hillside Hangout a few times now, and it's been amazing every single time. The food is always great, the atmosphere is fun and laid-back, and the staff are incredibly friendly--always smiling and welcoming. They also have board games you can play, which adds such a fun touch, and we've even caught some live music that made the whole experience even better. One of our favorite parts is how family-friendly it is. Our daughter loves coming here because she has space to run around on a playground area and a whole big yard and just be a kid. While we relax and enjoy ourselves--which, honestly, is hard to find. This is one of the few places around that truly feels kid-friendly and enjoyable for adults. So if you're not into being around families, there are plenty of other spots. BUT for those of us who are, this place is a gem. We went here for weekend lunch for the 1st time today and we didn't know what to expect, being it's giving a bar vibe, but the food we had was very good. The menu focuses on " Elevated Bar Food" and scratch made sauces. They serve Apps, Sandwiches, Salads, Sides and a couple of weekend brunch items. They had a Breakfast Burrito today, but I think it's a rotating option. They also have 13 local and regional beers on tap and serve cocktails also. This is a local place to bring the family as they have covered outdoor tables with a huge fenced in backyard. The outdoor area is dog friendly and they have a playground and activities for the kids. They have Live Music, Rotating smoker specials, Trivia Night, Karaoke and a Writers night. I would recommend going to their website to find out when these activities occur and when and who is playing Live Music. The service was very good and the employees were friendly and helpful. You place your order at the Bar, they give you a number and bring your food to you. You sit wherever you want. It does get busy. There were several people there when we arrived ( shortly after opening ) and when we left it was already getting busy. To finish the review--- They have a kids menu and the burgers come with housecut Potato Chips. The burgers are served on a Sweet Potato Bun which I've not seen anywhere else. I really liked it. This is an open seating building, you place your order at the counter, they give you a number, and they bring your order to the table.. when the inside is full, you sit outside at a picnic table.. a no frills establishment.. my cheesesteak was tasty, served hot and fresh, along with a soda .. service was good, ambience, very basic.. it's just a casual eatery, they close promptly at nine pm.. . This is a fun little place in Mt Juliet, nothing fancy, but good food. You walk up to order and you find a seat. There's lots of options for drinks and cocktails, and the food has been really good. My friend chicken sammi was really good, and. The bbq chips are made fresh and worth it! We were looking for some live music and didn't want to make the 40 min trek into Nashville. The Hillside Hangout was right down the street from our campground. We were there on a Tuesday night and it was $1 wing night! They were pretty good but you can tell they were cooked in advance because I'm sure they were anticipating large orders on "special" night. They have a smallish stage, but the sound was good. There are plenty of picnic tables to eat and enjoy the music. You order food/drinks inside and they'll bring it to you. BIG play area for kids. The only downside is parking. It's a very small parking lot, but you can park at one of the businesses next door and walk the sidewalk to get to the restaurant. read more

We had such a great experience here! The food came out fast and was absolutely delicious--highly recommend the cheese curds (so good!) and the moose burger. What really made this place special for us was the playground. Our daughter loved it, and honestly, so did we! She is autistic, and eating out at a typical restaurant can be really challenging, but this environment made it enjoyable and stress-free for all of us. Amazing food, great beer choices and even better trivia. This place has my favorite trivia, hosted by Funky Trivia. The questions are fun and challenging, plus each round has a music question where you guess the song and artist from a few seconds of the songs. It's great to meet up with friends or have a date night. Trivia is hosted on Thursday, but check socials for weekly updates. The service is always so friendly. You order at the counter and they bring out your food. I'm obsessed with the Mooseburger. Order an extra side of Moose sauce and upgrade your side to the fries. read more

It was too hot to fully take advantage of the outdoor areas, staff mentioned plans for continued improvements which has this place at the top of our list for potential frequenting. My only complaint is the live entertainment was too loud. 80db is great for a club that wants people on their feet singing and dancing, but not great in such a small space if you want people sitting, eating, and having conversations comfortably. read more

I went there on a Wednesday afternoon for a cheeseburger. It looked really good according to their Instagram profile. But however, looks can be rather deceiving. I ordered one of their burgers that was on the picture, and I was quite disappointed. First off, it was way too cheesy with not so much flavor coming from the burger itself. The bun was dry, and it didn't taste fresh at all. At least my burger came out nice and hot. I've had better burgers than that. The french fries were frozen and it tasted like the oil in the fryer hasn't been changed in a while. What's bizarre is that the water comes from a plastic container, like the ones you see at a football game. That building in general has been through various phases with different failed businesses. I was curious to check out Hillside Hangout, after I've heard that Prost and Riot did pretty well in the last year or two. This place keeps leveling up the amazing! First they fenced in their amazing backyard area to keep it safe for the kids. Then they standardized the menu with seriously delicious consistent food. Now I hear a playground is in the works. The outdoor area is phenomenal, even when the weather isn't perfect. There's a fire pit, a stage with live music, & brand new deck. Love that this is in Mt Juliet, it has so much potential. My husband and I used to come visit when it was Prost and Riot. Great concept. Mount Juliet needs more places like this with indoor outdoor seating, food and drinks. Food is alright, but the order system seriously needs work. There is only one counter to order at. Waiting in line to get beer and food over 30 minutes is just, not ideal. It's great they're busy, it's just not an efficient way to serve customers. They could take a few notes from East Nashville Beer Works in Lebanon. Same concept but less waiting. read more

My daughter lives in Mt. Juliet and she was telling us about this place called the Hillside Hangout, so, there we went. It was not busy at all, but it was freezing outside and actually I didn't want to be outside for even a minute. Well, I was glad that we went. This place reminds me of an old bar that I went to back in NY during the 60's. It was nice and warm inside and that is what I needed the most at that point. Ok, we ordered a pretzel right away and who doesn't want a Hot Petzel on a cold Nite. Cheese sauce and mustard. Yum.... and we didn't even get our food yet. All of our orders came pretty quickly and we enjoyed our experience. Looking forward to visiting during the spring when it's not so cold and enjoy a night where it's got some live music. Went for their first brunch service today, they did well! Service seems to always be on point, and ordering was much quicker with the second POS. Food came out hot, quick and tasty, although I keep wishing they had more German food on the menu. Love the Jeep parking hill behind the regular parking lot. The food is absolutely fresh and delicious, lots of beer/drink options to choose from and fun treats at the counter ! Stop in on a specific day for extra fun; trivia night, live music, brunch etc.. The service is one of the best, always friendly. My 7 and 9 year old even pointed out "the people that work here are so nice." My family and I love this place - we try to go at least once a month. The back yard is amazing and our 4 year old loves to play and explore there. The new play set back there is an awesome addition. We usually stick to the same order - burgers and fries and they are always so good. The rest of the menu looks great too and we're excited to eventually veer out of our usual order someday. Stopped in for lunch as we had heard good things. Overall, the whole experience was pretty underwhelming. We got the riot fries (which were very good), a burger with potato salad and a chicken wrap with cucumber salad, plus two drinks... $75 lol. What? The burger was fine. Not great, not terrible, but not a lot of meat or flavor. The potato salad was extremely bland - no seasoning or other ingredients, just potatoes. The chicken wrap appealed to me bc it had bacon, pickled onions, and goat cheese. Did it though?? There were maybe 4 onion strings, 2 pieces of chopped bacon, and a couple goat cheese crumbles - it was basically a chicken lettuce wrap. Oh, and the chicken pieces were so incredibly dry, like tough to chew dry. The cucumber salad had 3 (yes 3) slices of cucumber and the rest was giant chunks of chewy tomato. No thank you. Food was bland, service is nonexistent, and it's overpriced. Spend your money elsewhere. Cool looking place though. Looks like it would be a fun hangout if you went for happy hour drinks and some riot fries! read more
