I love this park. On top of being huge, there are so many things to do, and it's right in the center of town! There are activities for many different aged people! Playgrounds, swings, a soccer field, basketball courts, and back trails to explore. Next to an apartment complex, near a Walmart and so much more! read more

Great little park! Decent sized parking lot that closes at sunset. I like that the playgrounds aren't sand or wood chips, they're a more solid flooring. The kiddie playground is separated from the big kids playground. And then the swing set is in its own area as well. Lots of picnic tables to choose from. Two fields for soccer: one small one and one huge one on the right side. read more

This is a nice neighbor park with a nice playground for children, a full court basketball court, and soccer field, a few picnic tables, and is dog friendly to pooches on a leash that are no longer than six feet. The park also has a pathway around the most of it, except along the street where it turns to sidewalk. No alcohol, between 9 pm & 10 am, nor glass containers. There's a small creek that runs along the south, southwest side of the park. One can acquire a permit for the use of the field for events and such. Nice park. read more

As a mother who is still fearful of sand and toddlers.. whether it is carried into the car, filled into shoes, thrown around like pixie dust, etc... I love Hilleary Park for being one of the few parks with NO SAND. Thank god! Personally, I think sand is so gross -- you don't know what dog/ coon/ creature has pissed/ pooped/ etc. in it... big kids use playgrounds like big ol' ashtrays.. etc. This mom.. not a fan of sand... although I know at some point it will be inevitable. Anyways.. this park. LOVELY. small little parking lot that can get full especially when the big boys/ girls are playing soccer on the weekends.. but usually we haven't had a problem and you can park out on the main street without paying. There's a small kids section and a big kids section.. lots of rocks to climb.. big fields for running.. and a creek out in the way yonder back. Lots of swings for both baby and bigger kids.. the slides are ridiculously steep.. but the kiddos seem to enjoy em.. and so far.. i haven't had any issues with cleanliness in the area. Bathroom facilities are present and acceptable. Nice little areas with tables to host picnics or birthdays. Great thing about it is Poway doesn't require payment or advance reservation of the picnic spots. Woot! We've already made great memories at this park. It's one of our favorites that doesn't get too crazy and keeps out 2 under 2 entertained! Highly recommended! read more

Impressive place, especially considering it's owned/operated by a municipality. I wasn't there long, but I think I counted at least three different play areas (plus swing sets), for different age groups. The parking lot isn't huge, but we didn't have a problem getting a spot on a weekend. They have restrooms there! Also impressive is the amount of shade that's generated by the trees. I didn't see any vagrants, so people felt safe. Bottom line: I'll be back there. :) read more

This park is awesome because it has two play areas: one for kids 3 and up and one for they tiny people. I've been here a few times now and we've seen a few shady people from time to time -1pt. It's a very large park with a lot going on so the crazies slip in from time to time. If you keep an eye on your kids you will have nothing to worry about. They also have a swimming pool, baseball diamond, basketball courts and generally lots to do. read more

So I've been to this park a few times since I live one community away, in the burbs of Rancho Peñasquitos and the park is located right across the street from Wal-Mart and my old favourite fruit stand, the Plow Boys Market (RIP, no thanks to Wal-Mart sucking the life from those who ran it). I normally don't have a reason to stop by the park, but it looked to be an idyllic haven for kids who play soccer and Moms who take their toddlers out to the playground. I did some homework on this park because I was going to move into the Solara apartments adjacent to the grounds, but plans changed, so in Rancho PQ I stay, and there are plenty of nice, clean parks here to boast about. Enter the month of February, 2011. I am now a dog owner, and the dog we have is a German Shepherd. She's a puppy, and we take her with us on our errands because she can't be left alone just yet. My favourite Costco is a couple of miles from this park so after doing a Costco run we would stop by the park to run the puppy around, get her some fresh air, etc. Now enter the nightmare. We're on the grassy area, and I spot a kidney on the ground. Picture a WTF look on my face and my husbands, as I poke at it with a stick. It's partially decomposed, a greenish black, but it's definitely a kidney. I know my body parts folks, since I've done cadaver dissection and a ton of human anatomy and physiology classes towards my major. It was a small kidney though, not an adult humans' sized one, so I made sure my pup stayed away from it and we left the scene in a hurry. I was half tempted to pick it up with a doggie bag and dispose of it, but then my husband said something to the effect of "crime scene" and "voodoo or Santeria" and so I left it alone. One week later, we're back in the same park. I make jokes regarding buried bodies and the zombie apocalypse starting at Hilleary Park and as we're walking our pup at the OPPOSITE end of the field, sure enough I happen upon another body organ looking object. We poke at it with a stick, and turn it around, and I swear to the Gods above and all that is holy and divine, it looked like a penis without the foreskin... if the penis belonged to a zombie and was shriveled up in death. It was a tiny one, also bluish black with decay, and maybe about the length and size of my index finger. This one my husband picks up with a bag and disposes of. So, both of us being creeped the fack out, start to head back towards the car and then I almost stepped on stretched out intestines and a small stomach. You can't make this shit up guys. Having traveled throughout some major cities in Southeast Asia and Mexico, I can recognize that those entrails were most likely chicken, the kind you see marinated and grilled on skewers and sold as street food on the dirty streets of Manila or Saigon. Needless to say, I doubt I'm ever going back to voodoo park central again, and to think that all of this is right smack dab in the middle of redneck Poway, just around the corner from where the Poway Rodeo does their yearly parade. Whodathunk? And Poway, WTF is going on in that park? We love this park and come here a couple of times a week. It's great for all ages and has a shady picnic area perfect for small parties. Two things: the bathrooms are kind of gross, but they're functional. Also, the park isn't well fenced for kids who like to wander off. Soccer fields, tennis courts, and basketball courts are available as well. The City recently received a grant to improve the play equipment and are in the process of repairing the foam flooring that cushions the playground. read more

If I was able to give a 3.5 star rating then this park would get one rather than the 3 I am forced to give. This park is right across the street from the walmart/dmv shopping centre and has a field, washrooms and play equipment. The play equipment is split into age 2-5 and 5+. There are picnic tables right near the younger play equipment which is handy if you want to have a picnic whilst you are at the park. This park is not really close to where I live but if I am in the area I will stop buy in the future. The reasons for not giving a higher rating are as follows: - the play equipment is not gated/fenced off properly and is right next to the parking lot which in turn is next to the busy road (community road) which is a safety hazard. Of course all parents should be keeping a close eye on their little ones but accidents could still happen. - there are only two of the swings for small children which means you have to wait for them at times. When you have a small child who is yet to be interested in the other play equipment it sucks a little to have to limit the time on the swing. Most other parks have 4 swings for small children. read more

I'm new to the area and decided to take my grandsons (6&3) here for an afternoon of playtime. I was pleased to see the multiple play areas with NO SAND!! Loved that there was a variety of areas for them to play as well as swings and large grass areas to run and tumble. Also liked the fact that the restrooms were very close and there are plenty of places for parents to sit and watch the Littles. I didn't give it 5stars because I feel that SD Parks needs to put shade sails up so the slides and things aren't so dangerous in the heat. this is our go-to park. it's the only park in poway that has any regular kids/parents that go there. the equipment is great, the ground is rubberized (not wood chips) and there are 2 areas for the kids to play on - one for older and one for the younger. the fields allow the kids to play and run around and there's plenty of parking. this is the best park in poway. never mind the other review - i've been here over 50 times and am yet to have a bad experience. read more

Love this park! It's really close to our house and our daughter loves playing there. They just replaced the foam that pads the different play areas and put in a few new swings. I wish there was more shade other then by the bench/picnic area. read more

This is a great park! One of my favorite parks that I have ever been to with my son. There are two play areas (top one is for bigger kids, and the bottom one is actually divided into two, one for tiny kids, and the other for kids up to age 5 or so). There are also swings in two areas. The park is surrounded by a fenced in soccer field and a non-fenced in soccer field. The playground itself isn't really well fenced-in, and it is right next to the playground, but for the most part it is really to keep an eye out on the kids. The ground is that cushion-type foam.
