I really don't know where to start. Since there are still about 100 boxes I haven't unpacked the nightmare continues. First of all we were moving from NC to OH and we had 2 delivery locations. A house and a storage unit for which we paid extra for the extra location. We explained how we had marked things for the house vs. storage. Things got put in storage that go to the house and vice versa. But lets start at the beginning. We were told the movers would be there to pack for 3 or 4 days. The first day we got a call that someone was sick or there were catalytic converters stollen out of trucks, several excuses were given why they wouldn't be there that day. When Brandon and his crew of 20 somethings arrived the next day they were in a big hurry because they wanted to keep the same time line. My mother and I were segregated to one room of the house so we would be "out of their way". I work from home and thought I could work that day and Brandon suggested I sit outside in my car and work. In February! Needless to say we got out of their way and let them pack. They packed everything. We were still living there and they packed paper towels, puppy pads our dog uses in the house, medicine. EVERYTHING. Didn't even ask us if we might need those things. Brandon and his crew were there for 2 days and then informed us that they had another job and someone else would come and finish. Enter Miguel. I will say that Miguel's personality was much friendlier than Brandon's, but the rush was the same. It was not our fault they started a day late and yet everything was rushed. MIguel didn't even have the entire day there, he was gone shortly after lunch time. There were boxes left behind that we had to take. Yes we signed off on stuff, but everything was so rushed because of THEIR lateness, not ours. So then the delivery. First of all Miguel acted like he had no idea what went to the house and what went to storage. I had to work again so my 78 year old mother and my brother in law had to stand out in the Ohio February cold at the storage room and try to direct them which things went where. And they still got a lot of it wrong. I have found boxes at the house marked in plain english "storage" and things in storage marked for the house. AND HERE"S THE BEST PART about the delivery. Miguel realizes after day one that he needs additional help and contacts Hilldrup who calls my sister and askes for more money. After we had been ASSURED multiple times that the price we were quoted was final and no additional fees would be added. My sister had to raise a little hell and finally we weren't charged for those fees. Needless to say I was a little hostile to Miguel when he came to deliver to the house the next day and when my mom explained why to him he was shocked. He said he never thought we would be billed for the extra crew. Well then who pray did you think they were going to bill for those services? Not Brandon, he and his son and the other youngsters that packed our stuff were in the wind as far as I knew. SO now to the unpacking. We have just started this process, but already it's pretty shocking. For a company that claims to have YEARS of experience I have already found broken dishes, smashed lamp shades. Books packed on top of delicate items. Bowls packed inside each other with no paper in between. They used giant boxes that are so heavy it takes 2 people to unstack them and then we have to cut them down to reach the items at the bottom. I found the top half of my food processor but have yet to find the bottom half, I guess Brandon's team didn't know that you need both parts together to process food. They would use 10 sheets of paper for something tiny and then no paper on a vintage egg plate. I have more experience packing and moving then any of the yahoos that packed my things. I am so glad i have some time to file a claim because I want to go through as much as I can so that I get reimbursed for the carelessness of this crew and these movers. We moved to be closer to family, but we had limited time because our landlord sold our house and we were essentially evicted. Hilldrup made an already stressful and traumatic experience 10 times worse. The disrespect to me, my mother, my things by mostly Brandon will never be forgotten. Anyone considering a move I suggest you stay away from Hilldrup. read more

Worst move ever! My husband was in the Navy so I have experienced more than a few moves. The loading process was great - the helpers, the driver, they all were wonderful and in many ways, went above and beyond. Jenny was sympathetic to the fact that my arrival date kept getting pushed back. My furniture arrived 2 days late. The driver had a death in the family so I sympathized. However, on the delivery day, he arrived 4-1/2 hours later than he had texted us -the helpers and I just sat around and waited. As a result, the helpers were in a hurry. I had a lot of boxes and I had downsized to a much smaller home. However, the helpers just kept stacking boxes. If someone had taken the time to explain to me the number of boxes, many of them could have been taken to my lower level. My master closet was packed with boxes making it difficult to empty boxes. They stacked wardrobe boxes on top of wardrobe boxes. I understood that they needed room for the king sized mattress but I asked that they take down the second tier of boxes before they left. They did not. And the coup d'gras - the driver put together my bed - he asked how the headboard had been attached - I didn't put it together originally - I am a widow, my husband died last January. It looked fine and everyone was in a hurry to leave. Yes, I signed the paperwork but... I should not have. There is a part missing from my bed - a major part. The wardrobe boxes remained double stacked. I have a concrete bench - 3 pieces - the supports and the slab - it was left in 3 parts. I have yet to find the linens for my bed - there are master bedroom boxes in the garage with heavy boxes on top of them. The men who were sent to fix my bed, they said that they had never seen such a mess with so many stacked up boxes. They were kind enough to take down the 2nd layer of wardrobe boxes. Boxes in wrong rooms, furniture left in the garage. The top box in a 5 box pile up - heavy. I am short, they are above my head. How am I supposed to get them down? I am going to get $200 because the furniture arrived 2 days after the promise date. Whoopee! They are sending someone out to check on my bed but made it very clear that it is for the bed only; I was not to have them check anything else. A bit insulting to say the least. I have some movers coming in to help move boxes at my own expense - I haven't been able to start to unpack my kitchen because there is no room. I have been told to take pictures. Again, I shouldn't have signed the paperwork. I had arrived early to get ready, I hadn't eaten, and it was only me. I found a scratch on my antique highboy. I had it refinished before I moved - when I mentioned that, I received a snicker, something about having a piece of furniture refinished before a move. I had several pieces refinished because there is an excellent refinisher in Greer. I was assured that my furniture would be double wrapped. I am tired, laying on my mattress on the floor with the frame leaning against the wall - yes, worst move ever. Update: I received $400 as compensation - again, not even close to the inconvenience caused. I paid $700 just to have the boxes moved to the right rooms. And the coup d'gras - I asked to have the boxes picked up - I was told I would owe $150! I have moved 7 times - several military moves but this is my third non-military move. I have never, that is NEVER been charged for picking up my moving boxes. I will find another way to get rid of my boxes. One good thing - my bed is fixed. But I was the one who found the missing parts. And I received a letter telling me that I should be happy that I wasn't charged for that. I chose not to buy the extra insurance - my insurance company covers the difference in damages. I could file a claim but I am tired. I am approaching the one year anniversary of my husband's death. I am so tired of fighting for what I paid for. I am just done. CeI spoke with my realtor - she never heard of a moving company charging for debris removal. Tonight, there were workers finishing a townhouse behind me. They took many of the boxes. However, it shouldn't come to me. Update: I never got a call about picking up my boxes. I have been putting them out on recyclable day. Since my review, and after I signed the check that I would not make any further claims, I discovered a main piece of my Miele vacuum was missing. The driver had told me that he was putting in a claim about an end table that when he had it loaded, he noticed it was broken. I received nothing. I was told that having my bed put together correctly was a courtesy - I was the one who found the missing parts.. I paid nearly $9000 for the move and I received $400 in compensation. My end table is still broken - in fairness, I didn't pay for the extra insurance. Again, I will never recommend or use Mayflower. read more

We've endured several corporate moves over the years, and we can say without a doubt, Hilldrup was the BEST to date! We were met with some unexpected circumstances yet they were prompt and helpful in accommodating our deadlines. This organization has very professional and caring staff in every department. The movers themselves were all friendly, punctual, and meticulous with our possessions. We even had our items put into storage for almost 2 months, but every single item was accounted for and in perfect condition upon arrival. They really took the stress of the move off our shoulders.
