Chicken & Waffles with a side of Barbara Jean's Cornbread Dressing
    Dave O.

What a gem in the neighborhood, this warm and welcoming restaurant is a must try if you love delicious home cooking. The family and staff are so welcoming, the interior is warm and inviting and you'll totally feel at home. I think I had a good sampling of what's coming hot out of the kitchen during my first visit but I can't wait to come back and try more. We tried the fried chicken and the fried pork-chop and let me tell you both were amazing and the sides of black-eye peas and cornbread dressing (cornbread dressing is only offered on Friday and Saturdays) tasted like I was dining at my mom's table, I am convinced all the sides will be just as good, I asked our server what sides I should try and after a moment she came back with definitely the black-eye peas and she was right. Now on to the waffles - thick fluffy and light as a feather, honestly I don't remember ever ever ever having a better waffle. The prices here are very reasonable and the portions make this place a great value and everything is served with love...

My socks were immediately knocked off by the warm welcome and impeccable customer service! What a treat to feel like I was dining amongst genuine people who cared about my dining experience! The owners greeted us and chatted a bit about the family-style restaurant established in loving memory of the matriarch of the family. While we were there, several people from the community came to dine. Everyone seemed as if they were at ease. This is clearly a favorite local establishment! I'm reminded of the theme song for a show from the 80's called "Cheers".... "sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name & they're always glad you came". That's the feeling that I enjoyed! Now onto the delicious food! Wooo! You won't be disappointed with their fried chicken or fried pork chop! Everything was seasoned and prepared perfectly! Crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. Now, if your palate favors bland, unseasoned foods, this may not be for you. The seasoning was just right, balanced, and not overpowering! Yum! You'll enjoy the variety of waffles available, southern style sides such as greens, candied yams, Mac and cheese, tasty beverages such as watermelon, mint lemonade, and more. They're is something for everyone! Portion sizes were very decent! We can't wait to visit again just so we can try the oxtails!

Do not walk, run to eat here! It won't be long before this place is featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. The chicken is so flaky, so juicy, so perfect you'll think they got your grandmama in the back cooking. You will be full to the gills and still trying to eat one more bite. The waffles are perfect fluffy heaven...and we haven't even gotten to the sides. Blackeyed peas and collard greens so good you'll dance in your seat. I can't wait to come back and try the Ox Tails...and the Sweet Potato Waffle and everything else!!!

Great find in Edgewater! Came in for a touch of soul and got so much more. Walking in the door you can feel the story and after speaking with Chris the owner I learned all about his family and the restaurant being a tribute to his mother which their recipes have come from. Has a waffle, fried chicken thigh and collards. Chicken had just the right amount of seasoning, crispy and fresh. Greens delicious adding in some pepper vinegar to my liking. Looking forward to going back for more soul. Please introduce yourself and tell your story on how you came to dine there. Just over a year opened and need all the help they can get for this deserving family and restaurant.

Absolutely loved this place! Food was amazing! Some of the best chicken I've had in a long time! Collard greens and black eyed peas were awesome too! Will definitely be going here a lot more.

It was time for dinner on a Friday night and my adult children and I were craving some comfort food. I'd read a lot of good things about this place, and heard that they had some of the best fried chicken and oxtails in the area, so we drove the 30+ miles to check it out and we were NOT at all disappointed. The location is in a humble strip mall in Edgewater, Florida. A place that you would drive by a thousand times and never know of the little gem that sits within. We were directed to sit wherever we wanted by a server who almost immediately brought us menus and took our drink orders. Now I'm not usually big on sweet tea, but when I'm about to tuck into some southern comfort food, I always check it out if it's offered. The tea was properly brewed, ice cold and perfectly sweet! As we perused the menu, it became obvious that coming on Friday was a good call as they only serve certain dishes on the weekend...and who doesn't want cornbread dressing and black eyed peas any time they're available?? As we sat and enjoyed our drinks, we noticed that the other patrons were very happy with their food and that the vibe was very laid-back...comfortable...almost like eating at home. When it came time to order, Kid #1 and I ordered the Chicken & Waffle with 3 wings, then ordered an extra thigh on the side. I got the black eyed peas and cornbread dressing for my sides, he did the black eyed peas and collard greens. Kid #2 ordered the Chicken & Waffle Sliders with the baked mac & cheese as their side. Now, not only do you get to choose your main and sides at this point, but another decision is placed before you that will definitely have an impact on your meal...and that's what kind of waffle you want with your food. From Plain to Pecan, from Sweet Potato to Red Velvet, the selection wasn't made easy, but I went with Plain for my first visit. After placing our orders, one of the owners came by to ask us if it was, indeed, our first visit. When we told him that it was, he smiled and said "It won't be your last!"...he wasn't wrong! Very soon, our server brought our plates to the table and the first thing that struck me was the size of the wings! These were whole chicken wings, fried to the perfect golden color and steaming hot! The thigh was boneless and similarly fried to perfection as were the breasts inside the Kid's sliders. Everyone got into trying their sides, which we passed around so that everyone could taste everything. That cornbread dressing was divine! Just a bit sweet and incredibly delicious! The Kid's collard greens were exceptional, with just enough of the pot liquor (IYKYK) to keep them juicy, and Kid #2's mac & cheese was really good. The waffles were absolutely delicious...light, fluffy, a little crispy with just the right amount of sweetness. But let's talk about that chicken! Folks, thanks to the US military, I have had the very good fortune to eat around the world, and I've had fried chicken all over the place! From Willie Mae's in NOLA to Stroud's in KCMO to Gus's in the ATL...and this right here was some of the best EVER! The pieces were hot, juicy, crispy and SO delicious! It got really quiet around our table as we got into the serious business of eating this incredible food! When the owner came back by to check on us, we couldn't tell him enough how much we were enjoying our experience. And as our dinner continued, it became obvious that we would be taking some of this food home as we were unable to eat everything in that seating! Alas, as with all good things, our dinner came to an end, and as we prepared to leave, we assured the server and the owners that we will definitely return. As our family likes to travel to eat, upon occasion we stumble across a place that's really special. Not just a place to eat, but a place to connect with those who truly love and respect the food that they serve. Hill's Chicken and Waffles is one of those places. If you've not tried them, what are you waiting for?? We'll see you at the table!

This is seriously the best fried chicken you will have in Florida!!! If you are looking for some quality southern food, Hill's Chicken and Waffle is the place to go! We met the owners who were so nice and services were extremely fast. The atmosphere is super inviting and truly a great spot! We definitely will be back.

Don't let the location of this place fool you. The food is topnotch as well as the owners and staff. I had the chicken waffle sliders with a side of collard greens and my husband had the pork chop, waffles, and yams. We'll be back!

Eggs coked to order, crispy bacon and home fries! Delish!!

Keep your eyes open wide 'cause you don't want to miss this hidden gem. Tucked in at back of little plaza off Ridgewood Ave in Edgewater. Delicious food, Cozy atmosphere and friendly service. Food was amazing. Took the owner's recommendation and tried the Butterscotch Waffles. Yum Yum Yummy! This sweet selection did not disappoint.

One morning, out with friends enjoying ocean walks and ocean views we were all hit by those mid-morning hunger pangs, someone asked if we'd ever tried it. I'll admit, I was skeptical. I didn't know a thing about the place. But I trusted the company I was with, and I'm so glad I did. Breakfast here is pure comfort food--the kind that reminds you of lazy mornings by the shore, shared laughs, and time spent with people you actually enjoy. The food is genuinely delicious, the waffles are a must, and the coffee? Top notch--always a win. The menu has plenty of choices without feeling overwhelming, perfect for a casual morning out near the beach. It's not fancy, it's not trying to be, and it's not forgettable. It's just right. A true surprise and absolutely worth coming back to. If you're near the beach in New Smyrna Beach and craving a breakfast that hits all the right notes, check this place out. The staff was very friendly and enjoyable and service was excellent during our visit. I was indecisive with what I wanted to order because I was starving and so many options sounded good. I ended up going with the artichoke omelet, and my husband got the western omelet with pepper jack cheese and jalapeños added. I opted for home fries and sourdough bread with mine. The omelets were amazing and filled thickly inside with all the toppings. Everything was very tasty and flavorful. The sourdough was fresh and very dense. I hadn't seen the specials until after I ordered and tried to switch my order, but it had been started already which was fine. Our food came out quick and we ate all we could and grabbed the rest to go. The parking lot is a little confusing at one of the entrances. It's one way only so turn in where you see the cars angled towards the side of the restaurant where the door is. It circles around the back to overflow parking where the exit is (that can look like an entrance). I suppose it could be, but I'd be careful pulling in that way. I wish we lived in the area to go back more and try other meals!
