If you are an aerospace geek or a military history dork, then the Hill Aerospace Museum is a must for you. As a kid growing up, I watched war movies with enchantment. I read up on military stories. And sometimes, I was lucky enough to meet a veteran that would share their stories. Hill Aerospace had all of that. Since my wife does the planning, I didn't think much of our visit until we pulled up and those large decommissioned military planes sitting outside in all of its glory brought me back to when I was 10 years old. But the magic continues after you walk in. Within three large hangers housed of some of the most historically iconic planes on display. Add a small platoon of veterans, many of which had personally flown some of these pieces, the stories were endless and I had the honor of speaking with a number of these veterans and listen to their stories. It was an amazing time and I could have spent the whole day there. I don't say this often, but Hill Aerospace is almost a destination museum. It was such a great experience and those veterans made it that much more special. read more

This is one of those places that surprises you every time you visit. The collection of aircraft is incredible -- everything from massive bombers to experimental jets to helicopters that look like they came straight out of a movie. It's a great mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits, and you can get really close to the aircraft, which makes the experience feel very real and tactile, especially for kids. The museum is clean, spacious, and well organized. Staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and genuinely excited to share stories and history -- you can feel their passion. Also, free admission (with optional donation), which is amazing considering how much there is to see. Perfect place to spend a few hours learning, exploring, or just staring up at some truly impressive engineering. Such a wonderful experience and best of all, it is FREE! This is an amazing museum that takes you thru history and leaves you in awe to see planes from the 1900's to new jets in 2025. There are also some jeeps, motorcycles, fire trucks and ambulance featured. Lots of educational and fascinating displays. There is a section devoted to the POW's which was very emotional to learn about and makes you feel grateful for those that served. The volunteers are very interactive and share information from their personal experiences as most are retired military. There is a nice gift shop. The facility is well maintained and clean. So much to see and enjoy. Parking is also free. read more

Good fun for everyone in the family! We visited on a day when 30 planes were open for touring. So much fun. Live music, food trucks and novelty items to purchase. Extremely family friendly and patriotic. Well done! It has detailed descriptions of each plane or helicopter. Oh my gosh, this place is amazing and it's FREE!! This is a great place to bring the kids or to just walk around yourself alone or a loved one who loves planes. They have so many amazing aircraft stuck inside the various hangers. Be prepared to do a lot of walking. There's a lot to see. I almost think it's impossible to see everything in one day, especially if you're really wanna read the descriptions of everything. The staff was great answered any questions you had and they have people posted all over so if you have anything you wanna know, I'll tell you all about it. Most of them are veterans who flew in these plans or worked on them back in the day. We even saw some active duty personnel doing maintenance on some of the planes. If you're anywhere near Salt Lake City, this is a quick easy off the highway stop but plan on taking at least a few hours to snoop around. read more

When you go to the Hill Aerospace Museum a person gets to basically take in an assortment of aircraft that once had been flown at Hill Air Force Base! Now they also have a lot of other planes that have historically been flown and recognised for their history! For instance they have the famous SR-71 BLACK BIRD!! This aircraft set speed limits and altitude height records that still exist to this day and the fact that it's been out of service for years means really something special!!! Plus it being a big attraction at the museum, you can get up close and personal with it, something that would never happen if it was still operational!!! They have so many different things to look at, they have a lot of WW2 planes, they have a great example of a presidential aircraft that the President of the country used, no where big as what airforce one is today! The kids will enjoy some sights that they can interact with. One of the things everyone finds interesting is that it's all free, no admission charge, but to help with keeping it free to enjoy they do take donations to help support their wonderful facility and help with keeping their facilities maintained. The location is real easy for you to access now thanks to the great work UDOT has done with the new roads leading up to it and the base itself! As a fan of military aircraft, this place hit my inner kid! It includes 2 large hangars. As of this writing, they have added a 3rd. The first thing you notice when you park are the aircraft outside of the museum. There is an A-7 Corsair and a B-1 Lancer. The first building you enter has a small gift shop and a long hallway that goes you into the first hangar. This hangar houses many WW2 aircraft. It also has German and British aircraft as well as uniforms, small arms, and a really interesting room that tells the story of the WASPS (Women Air Service Pilots) of Utah. The next hangar houses modern jet aircraft and armaments. You can also go into the interior of a C-130 Hercules. It's a really well- thought out and meaningful exhibit. This is a fun museum for anyone interested where you can see all sorts of previously flown military aircrafts. The museum is in Roy, Utah and has free admission! We went here for my son's 4th birthday and he had a blast! There was an old airplane that we got to go inside of and see the which was really cool. Definitely check this museum out! read more

This place is so amazing! There are plenty of planes and helicopters and other artifacts. And it's completely free! I love going here with family and friends. Amel (Bud) is clearly really passionate about planes and was such a pleasure to talk to! He has a wealth of knowledge and pointed out some really cool and unique stuff on the C-130 experience. What a fantastic museum! When I first looked up this museum, I thought it was ON Hill Air Force Base, but it's actually directly next to it, so it's open to the public and it's completely free! This museum covers the history of flight, from the beginning to modern day. They have so many interesting displays and soooo many aircrafts! This museum could take a long time to do through, but even if you have just 20 minutes, it's worth it to just stop and see the aircrafts that are outside. All of the volunteers are so friendly and knowledgeable! Most of them have served in the military, so they are very familiar with the items there and their tours are great. read more

Nothing less than five stars for this world-class military aviation museum. The outdoor aircraft with one or two exceptions were very well maintained, despite the occasionally harsh weather. The indoor aircraft were spotless, shiny and a feast for the eyes. This is an Air Force exhibition, don't expect to see Navy/Marine aircraft here. With one exception, the horrendous positioning of the cockpit of a P-47 under the tail of a C-47, the aircraft were very effectively displayed. A bonus was the ongoing restoration (for viewing, not flight) of an F-117, itself a nice display. This HAFB Museum is a MUST SEE for military aviation buffs. read more

This place as the other reviews say is great. Our son has been talking about planes non stop lately so we figured what better way then a museum. We took the drive from salt lake and it was well worth the forty minutes. First it's a free museum the likes of which you could pay a decent amount in other places. They have a lot of different planes from the Wright brothers replica to actual war time planes. It's amazing to see the history from the world wars up to present. All the volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and willing to help and talk about the planes and other displays. There is an inside and and outside with some of the largest planes our military has used. It was a good way to spend a couple hours walking around and seeing how happy the planes made our son. Airplanes, history, and bunch of cool stuff. That typically explains this place. When I first got here I was like a kid in a candy store. When I turned into the parking area there was tons of airplanes everywhere. The planes outside you'll be able to touch them and some even be able to go inside to play. When walking inside you get greeted by some elderly folks, they are willing to provide any information you want. The first part of the museum is filled with older airplanes, and some of the bombs. There was one atomic bomb there as well. It's so awesome being able to see a actual atomic bomb. The second part of the it is all the fighter jets. They were all very cool. You would never imagine those planes being that big. You would thing they were smaller or something. They are so cool!!! Totally recommend. It's super fun for family of all ages. read more

Couldn't fit this in last go round so I made it a priority this time, and I'm glad I did. This is such a great collection with all the past superstars of our Air Force. Broken up into several sections based upon period, culminating in the jets. Loved everything from the globe master outside, to the P51, to the SR71 beast...all are beautifully restored. If you're even remotely into vintage military aircraft, you'll enjoy this museum. There is a great variety of planes from every decade. There are docents that are eager to answer questions or tell you all about the items on display. Take your time and listen to them. Their stories are fascinating. On display today was a C130, which was especially interesting to me because a friend in our group served in the military and jumped out of those planes. To keep the young folks engaged, pick up a scavenger hunt pamphlet up front. This encourages them to look around and find items throughout the museum. read more

The Hill Aerospace Museum on Hill Air Force Base is a free museum with an enormous wealth of military and aviation history on display and some impressive airplanes in their collection! My favorite is the impressive Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, arguably the coolest aircraft ever created. Only 32 were every built by Lockheed at a cost of $34 million each. As one of the fastest and highest flying jets every constructed, it achieved a sustained speed above Mach 3 (above 2,200 mph) on July 20, 1963, at an astounding altitude of 78,000 feet. The SR-71 is truly an amazing aircraft and you can see it on display at Hill Aerospace Museum! read more
