Wow.... this is the BEST boat ride of All the charters on Kauai and I've traveled with them all…read moreover the years. Why? 1) amazing motorized catamaran that is not too large.... they keep group size smallish unlike the multimillion dolllar charter companies that pack you in like Sardines on their giant boats. 2) because of the midsize of boat, the Captain is able to get you into places like reefs and sea caves that only the smaller rubber boats can normally do (he is a master at maneuvering his vessel) ... this is a major plus feature for snorkeling, swimming and upclose sight seeing of some magical land & rockscape. The big company boats can't do this. 3) since it is not one of the small rubber boats that also tout a more upclose experience you get a smooth ride... do not underestimate the importance of this! the two times I took the rubber boats I and my companions had injured backs and necks for days and weeks after. The swells and wind can make for a VERY rough ride on those other companies rubber boats but Catamaran Kahanu was fabulous and feels luxury compared to the others. 4) Family friendly.... no booze on this cruise which is perfect if you don't want to deal with obnoxious drunks and people vomiting overboard. A Simple but delicious lunch was provided. 5) This is a family (Ohana) run business. Captain got his Masters in Maritime Studies and has been a Captain for 3 or 4 decades on Kauai. His family is Indigenous to this island and the stories and knowledge they shared on their tour were nothing I've heard on any other boat tour on Kauai. This Na Pali Coast tour was absolutely Magical and I will ALWAYS use them and recommend them from now on. Hands down. PLEASE help support local family business while CHOOSING to give yourself the most Awesome Boat Experience on Kauai. Thank you Catamaran Kahanu...

One crew member made a native woven hat and bowl and gave them away. Nice. We were closer than 30 yards from the whale and the calf and escort. By federal law 100 yards. The captain was good at sea. Cons: Smallest Catamaran in the harbor. Smallest rv toilet I ever saw, behind a tarp. No cushions on fiberglass seats for five plus hours. The picnic lunch was minimal but adaquate. Plenty of mixed sodas. Compared to the other catamarans, ours looked home made. Take your Dramamine. You ll need it.

My husband and I traveled to Kaua'i for the first time and really wanted to experience the island…read moreand explore nature as the locals do - get off the "beaten path". We knew we wanted to hike and surf, but had no clue as to where to go or how to even go about finding these so called hidden spots. We were referred to Jeffrey from a friend and right away he was so nice and friendly. He asked some great detailed questions to get to know us and find out exactly what we had in mind. The first day Jeffrey took us surfing and taught us how to "read" the ocean and now we know how the waves work and the physics behind the waves. Rather than just pushing us into the waves so we could try to stand up/fall down/paddle out and try it all over again, Jeffrey really taught us the fundamentals of surfing so we knew what we were trying to do. It was really amazing to learn from such a veteran surfer with so much experience. My husband was able to stand up and took to it immediately, I needed a little extra help. We also went snorkeling and learned about all the native fish, coral, and even saw an eel. We met him early in the morning the next day at a local coffee shop - which we never would have found without him - and the food was amazing (Kalaheo Coffee Co.) and immediately we knew it was a great decision for Jeffrey to be our tour guide. He drove us in his vehicle up the mountain and we stopped at several different spots to see some amazing views of the island and the canyons and then we parked and began our hike. The hike was the perfect level for us to enjoy but be challenged. Jeffrey knew the name and history of every tree and flower and was soo knowledgeable. Additionally, Jeffrey imparted some great words of wisdom regarding life and helped us to really learn a lot about ourselves and surpassing the limits we had set for ourselves. Who knew we were not only going to see these great sights, but get a little "life coaching" as well! Jeffrey took us to so many great sites. We spent another day with him and his wife Hezar and couldn't believe the gorgeous places they took us in Kokee. We ate fresh baby strawberries and saw some beautiful views. We were both soo happy with our experience with Jeffrey. He really listened to us to design a completely custom experience tailored exactly to our needs and taught us so much about nature, hiking, the island of Kaua'i and so much more. Additionally, he was able to recommend some great secret beaches, restaurants, and some great stores. He has been living on the island for a long time and really knows all the great spots. If you are ever in Kaua'i - you must take a tour with him!

It ended up just being the four of us and the only people we saw on the trail were the workers installing a new boardwalk and fire and rescue personnel performing practice exercises. Along the entire river there and back we saw one SUP and one other kayak. We had the falls to ourselves for a half hour before another family turned up. It will get more crowded once the island open back up to outside tourism, but I'm sure Ali'i will still provide a memorable and thoughtful experience.

There are bigger ones for more money but this one is just right. Captain mike was awesome. He hopped in the water and snorkeled with us and even caught an octopus by hand. My kids were thrilled. The staff on board was super friendly and informative. The thing I liked best was it was very personable. We made it nearly to Keke beach. Entered a lava cave saw dolphins and sea turtles. My kids loved it and they have a much lower price for kids under 12 that really helped out on price. Good times!

Highlight of our Kaua'i vacation! I'm so glad we decided to slurge on this! It is definately worth…read moreit!!!!! A trip to Kauai isn't truly a Kauai trip without seeing the Na Pali Coast. And it was so much more than just a trip to Na Pali Coast! I'm not a water person, so this is saying a lot! Our tour was on the Na Pali Kai III, which was a catamaran that could take a max of 32 people. It included snorkeling and deli lunch. Lots of drinks were available at all times. There is also a restroom on board! Meet up was a Kikiaole Small Boat Harbor on the westside, where a number of other tours meet at the same picnic tables. A Liko tours worker will call your name and will come to you and you sign in. We had a party of 5 adults and 1 child (5 year old). There were a few kiddos on board, 1 being an infant. I'm glad the captain let those families go first to get first dibs in the back and shaded area. Though the front is exciting, if your prone to sea sickness, the front is no bueno. Our captain and crew were very knowledgeable and friendly, educating us on history, water life and all things Na Pali. The first hour and a half was cruising the west sighting dolphins! There were soooo many of them swimming in pods, taking air and spinning, it was fabulous! Of course, i wasn't camera ready for them. The next couple of hours was cruising the magestic Na Pali Coast. Unfortunately, this is when the waters started to get rough, we could not go into the open ceiling cave. The captain did go close to some waterfalls making some awesome photo ops. At that time, I started to feel queasy and moved to the very back of the boat (Sick Bay as they called it). A crew member poured a bottle of cold water on my feet and gave me herbal oil to dab behind my ear. He encouraged me to go into the water when it was time for snorkeling, and I did feel better. The area we stopped at for snorkeling was prime. So many fish and honu!!! And the fish were friendly, thank God. My 5 year old was able to put on a floatie to wrap around her waist. There is also a few boogie boards available to float on. I wished I had brought, at the very least, goggles for my 5 year old, as they did not have any kiddie size snorkel gear. Lunch was served during that time also. By then, I was done. I did not get too sick, but I fell asleep during the ride home. All in all, it was AMAZING!!! I encourage to save up, if you have to, for this activity. It truly shows you beauty of Kauai and it's magestic Na Pali Coast. And to add snorkeling and lunch?! Epic!
