Conversation 3/8/17 between myself and Gus Economou of High Line Auto Sales, 15W 760 N Frontage Road, Burr Ridge, IL 60527
9:58 a.m. Gus:
HI ERNIE, (FYI, he had my name yesterday. Why is he not using it today?)
Thank You for your interest in our Toyota Prius, do you have contact number I can reach you at?
10:24 a.m. Me:
Hi Gus,
I prefer not to give out my cell phone - prior bad experiences.
Did the Prius sell?
10:33 a.m.
Is available, if everything works out will you be doing cash or finance?
10:39 a.m. Me:
Cash.
10:45 a.m. Gus:
Ok, will keep you posted we are open 9.a.m. to 6 p.m. We do offer extended warranties and financing, I will have Allen finance Manager go over them when arrive.
11:12 a.m. Gus:
HI,
Would you be able to leave me small deposit which is refundable?
11:18 a.m. Me:
Why would I do that? Does it benefit me in any way?
11:21 a.m. Gus:
Just a small commitment until arrive.
11:21 a.m. Me:
Is this a real business? You are starting to freak me out. Why would I do that?
11:26 a.m. Gus:
Not a problem you do not have to leave deposit, sometimes customers out of state leave one prior to arrival. Yes, we are a internet based dealership sell over 80 cars a month.
11:36 a.m. Me:
Again, can you give me ANY reason at all why I would do that? Unless there is a substantial reason for me to do so, I won't be transferring any money until I drive the car and have a mechanic look at it.
I think I will check you guys out on Yelp/BBB.
11:43 a.m. Gus:
A deposit is not a problem, I will have vehicle ready for test drive Saturday if sells prior will let you know.
11:50 a.m. Me:
You know what? The Better Business Bureau doesn't know who you are, and Yelp has one review for 2017 that looks oddly familiar. I don't have time for games, and I don't like dealing with businesses that play them. I am looking to do business with a responsible, trustworthy dealership, and I don't think you are it. Please delete my email address immediately.

Paid Deposit and they sold it to another customer anyway!! I spoke with a salesman named Alex who was very professional and who i hoped would manage the deal. After the weekend I received a call from Gus Economous pushing me into a deposit. Since I had been looking for that exact vehicle I planned on the purchase but needed an inspection so I paid the deposit. I informed Gus that I worked and would not be available for a 2 weeks (Oil Field) and he only pushed for the deposit. I informed him to forward a Buyers Order to my bank for a particular amount and that I would pay the slight difference over in cash, but he never did. When I returned form the oilfield, my bank informed me the BO was never received and later that morning found out the car was sold the night before, though I had placed the deposit and communicated that the BO be forwarded. Gus refunded the deposit(or at least he says so since my CC company has no record as of yet, an informed me he tried to contact me. My response is that I told him my situation upfront and paid what he requested to hold the vehicle until my return. Gus could have at least mentioned in am email that they might sell the car in the meantime or they had another potential buyer in mind, but he did not. He simply kept pushing for a deal that was practically already made which made me hesitant. Ironically, they did not try to refund my deposit until I asked about the car and it was sold. So they sold the vehicle while in possession of my money and from all accounts may not have ever refunded it if I would not have called when I made it back from the oil field. Horrible customer service and an extreme lack of consideration for the customer. You've been warned. Gus may say he did this and that, but I have all the emails to prove my statements.
11:55 a.m. Gus:
Deposit locks in price does not hold vehicle it is 100 percent up to customer if does not want to not a problem. Vehicle is available if decide otherwise be glad to help you out, nice to meet you.
12:01 p.m. Me:
We have not decided on a price, so I don't have one to lock in. You are full of stories, and I plan to report you. Delete my email.
12:09 p.m. Gus
You were interested in vehicle told me could not arrive until Saturday perfectly fine. I asked if you would like to leave 100 percent refundable deposit to lock in price as advertised as seen, You did not want to and that is ok. You are more that welcome if decide to come down test drive vehicle and take to your mechanic prior to purchase. Once again very nice to meet you.
12:16 p.m. Me
You did not tell me what the deposit did and I asked THREE TIMES.
Your emails are unprofessional, your business practices are questionable, and it seems that it isn't the first time all of this has happened.
I am now asking for the THIRD time for you to delete my email address.
I will not be down to test drive.
PLEASE DELETE MY EMAIL IMMEDIATELY AND DO NOT SEND ME FURTHER MESSAGES. read more
