OMG BEST DONUT IN BAKERSFIELD!!! Customer service is excellent. Very spacious for it being a donut shop. Very clean and offers so much variety to choose from, whether it be drinks or coffee. Unfortunately hubby and I got to the shop too late to order a breakfast sandwich, but we got twisted glaze donuts and they were perfection! So fluffy, non oily, and glazed perfectly. I will be stopping by again, but this time earlier to get my breakfast sandwich and try out more flavors of donuts. My second time going here and I was hoping they had better customer service this time. Boy I was wrong! I saw the same gals working there with the grumpy faces. I wanted to try something different from last time I was here and hoping that my experience would be different. I should've just turned around and walked out but I wanted to give highland donuts another chance.. The woman working the front asked me what I want. I said I would like to order an iced coffee. Right after I ordered she just turned around and rolled her eyes like she did not wanna make it. Geez" she said with an attitude, it's gonna be a long while for that" Well that's ok" I said, that's part of the process ain't it" She just turned around and rolled her eyes again. She then slammed the cup on the counter as she proceeded to make my ice coffee. Sheesh woman! definitely needs to fix that attitude, like it's my fault she has to work. When I finally got my ice coffee. Took my coffee home and took a sip and It was too damn sweet like it was made with heavy sugar and milk with water down ice. Couldn't taste the coffee at all, but I wasn't expecting it to be great ice coffee but I was hoping it would at least taste like it has coffee. I even stir up the drink with the straw hoping it helped with the coffee flavor and sweetness but it did not. I took another sip and threw it the trash. Nope! I definitely wouldn't order that again. Idk bout this place but it has a lot of potential. It's nice and clean when you first walk inside the shop. The smoothies are nothing special. Ice coffee I don't recommend it. Breakfast Sandwiches are decent made with microwavable eggs. Donuts are ok not too greasy. I would've enjoyed it more if customer service didn't suck so bad. One of my goals for 2022 was to finish trying all the traditional donut shops in Bakersfield, CA. Highland Donut located in the northeast area of town was one of the two I had yet to visit. Recently, I had the opportunity to drop by. Was expecting to be greeted by terrible customer service since that is what I had read on most of their latest Yelp reviews. To my surprise, I was greeted with a warm smile and hello from the girl at the counter when I walked in. There were already a few people ahead of me, but she still made the time to greet me. 5 stars for customer service! The shop is larger than the normal mom and pop donut shop. Several tables available to sit at and enjoy your sweets. The shop was also super clean. Large variety of donuts to choose from. They do not have just the traditional type donuts. Made it a bit confusing to choose because they had all kinds I wanted to try. Guess, I will have to return to try everything else I wanted. What I did eat was yummy. Boston Crème was very good. First time I tried a Maple Custard filled donut cause I had never seen one before. It was delicious too. Overall, I was very pleased with this initial experience at Highland Donut. Prices were very affordable too. Quite nice especially considering how expensive everything has been getting. I will be returning. read more

I absolutely adore the girls here! They're always so friendly and welcoming. And the breakfast options are incredible - there's something for everyone. If you have a favorite item, I recommend ordering ahead to avoid disappointment. The staff is super helpful with phone orders, too. They're always happy to accommodate any special requests, like adding extra cheese or bacon to our breakfast sandwiches. I've been to this place when some customers have been a bit picky, you can't please everyone but overall, the friendly atmosphere makes it a great spot. I used to love this place. I was there when they opened the doors when they first opened. I should have known better because even then they didn't have it together. I kept going though because the doughnuts were light and the short Hispanic woman that's always there is a beast. This being said I will never return after the service I got today. Let's start with the declining in person service. The more people they hired the worse service got. They would stack doughnuts on top of each other and would end up in a huge mess. I would get breakfast sandwiches and the sausage would still be cold. They were always very helpful in fixing issues. Not anymore. My family members moved away so I stopped going in store as much. I've ordered from door dash almost every Friday until they literally gave me a dozen of maple and chocolate buttermilk bars that we did not order at all and they did not send my breakfast sandwich. I had to reorder and waste more money on tip and taxes. I gave them another chance because they were very apologetic. I ordered again today half a dozen doughnuts (1 maple with crumb bar, 2 glazed twist, 1 chocolate cake, 1 maple round, 1 cinnamon roll). I ended up with a full dozen of random doughnuts and a note that said no cinnamon roll. So you just give me double the doughnuts and random stuff?!? Then they forgot my sandwich again. I called the store to see what happened and I'm explaining my experience. It was a woman who answered at 7:26 AM. She first tells me no sandwiches had been made and then starts laughing at me as I'm explaining the situation. She said just come pick it up. Come pick it up?!? I ordered it for delivery for a reason I'm at work. Then I explain that if I reorder then now I'm out the additional money for tip,taxes, and delivery. She said then come pick up your refund?!? Like what this can't be serious??? I asked for a manager or someone in charge and she says no call tomorrow. This is ridiculous. I drive all the way from Garces to get stuff from here. They are open! This is a fun place, that is super clean with lots of options. Donuts, bagels, croissants, coffee, and smoothies. Ordered the ham and cheese croissant and was almost disappointed when I hit the ham beciase the bread was so delicious- light, airy, flakey, buttery. Also bought the bacon maple bar which was also light these donuts are not heavy or greasy and that makes me happy. I have plans to go back (maybe after a nice walk)! I hope more and more businesses start opening up and this gives me the hope wonderful businesses, like this, survive! I've been here maybe 5 times thinking the attitude of the staff would be better. They are rude. You walk up and they give you this impatient look. I don't think I have ever felt this way about a donut shop. I am head over heals in love with Highland Donuts. We recently moved back to Bakersfield from Orange County. There are a ton of fancy donut shops all over Orange County. After moving to Bakerafield, I was in search of a go to donut spot as I am obsessed with donuts. I am so happy to report that we have found our spot. We have not been to the store in person, but have ordered via Postmates several times. The donuts are perfect! The glazed blueberry is the best I've ever had. The glaze on the outside gives it a bit of crunch, it's moist, fluffy, and everything that is good in the world. Don't get me started on their Maple Bacon Bars. Highland Donuts care for their customers. We have had surprise free donuts included on several of our orders. They also wrote on the top of the box letting us know a freebie was included. The extra mile they go for their customers, has truly made me devout. Note to highland: My 3 year old was in love with a Cookie Monster themed donut we used to get in Orange County. He keeps requesting one. If you can consider doing a chocolate cake donut, with dark blue frosting, a cookie sholved into the hole (extra points for piped eyes) you'll make a 3 year old's year. We LOVE you! read more

While the donuts were pretty good....the customer service was TERRIBLE! The younger girl behind the counter with short hair seemed like she would rather be anywhere else in the world. She complained to her coworker about her "patience being tested" because I apparently took too long to decide what smoothie I wanted. It was super uncomfortable as I was the only person in the store at the time. I thought maybe it was just an off day for her but upon reading these other reviews, it sounds like it's a recurring problem. Went here today for a some suga suga. I have to say it's so clean in there and father service was great. The lady was patient w/me since I didn't exactly know what I wasn't going to get. I end up getting 2 chocolate bars, a glazed twist, and a chocolate coconut donut. The glazed twist has a unique taste to it. Not bad just different. The chocolate coconut was the same way. I can't quite pick up on it yet. I wish they added a bit of coconut extract to get more of the coconut flavor. The donuts were fresh so that's a plus for me. I will try this place again. Always quick & friendly. Reasonably priced. It's my go to for my kids. I'm on a diet so I haven't tried it myself.

My family and I have lived in this area for years and were really excited for this shop to open because its so close! When it finally opened, we got some doughnuts and were a little disappointed.. the doughnuts were dark, and dry. The glaze was rock hard on a couple of the maple bars. We blamed ourselves for going later in the morning (9am) and figured we'd try again. Our second visit went about the same. Another time we had family visit and they brought doughnuts and the doughnuts were once again dry and dark. Without knowing, I asked if there were from this shop and they said yes.. ‍ The only positive I have to give them is location! I hope they fix this problem because we'd really love for the to stay open and become successful! read more
