Highcross Leicester is probably the better of the two shopping centres in the city compared to Haymarket, I do find it a little unusual for a small city like Leicester with a population of just over 300,000 to have two shopping centres, but this does appear to be the most commonly used one.
It is slightly out of the way compared to the city's train station and bus services, and I actually did have to walk past Haymarket to get here, if you are getting a bus into the city you'll also have to pass the other shopping centre too.
Highcross reminds me of Westfield London as it has all its' restaurants inside including Nando's, MOD and Zizzi, before having numerous shops inside including anchor tenants John Lewis and Debenhams and also being home to the only Apple Store in the East Midlands as well as: Starbucks, Luke, JD Sports, Hugo Boss and more.
I do feel a lack of consistency with store opening hours is an issue as even though the mall shuts at 8 during the week and 7 on weekends, it appears many stores seem to shut beforehand. Other flaws include the mall staff and security seeming unapproachable, and a little rude rather than friendly/helpful.
Highcross is also the 23rd largest shopping centre in the UK and the second-largest in the East Midlands after intu Derby, while I would say I prefer Highcross to intu Derby I do feel a number of brands being absent lets the mall down - one of the biggest stores missing appears to be Marks and Spencer but this list also extends to include the likes of Currys PC World, Sports Direct.
One of the better shopping malls in the area with a great selection of restaurants and stores, not suited to a large city but for a small city like Leicester it is pretty good within the region for those which don't fancy making the trip into Dudley or Birmingham, both in the West Midlands. 4* read more
