This store has just been rebranded which means the window displays are slightly more welcoming than previously but the logo looks like they've regressed about 20 years for some reason. Wilkos is a great shop for all your non-food shopping as the selection is good, the quality is top notch and the prices are very low. They carry a huge range of products, items for household cleaning, beauty, cooking, DIY, decorating, clothing, toys, gardening and so on. They have started to do a more extensive range of food than just sweets and chocolate but I haven't found that to be as much of a lure as cheap shampoo, ovenproof dishes and sandwich bags! Their sales are wicked as well, as so often vast proportions of the store are devoted to seasonal products, so always pop in after Christmas or when summer's over to grab a good deal! read more

This particular store is really going downhill in recent months, sadly. Of course, generally the products sold are good and usually reasonably priced BUT the store itself is so badly managed. Whoever the manager is should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Just about anyone could manage the store better, even if they had no experience at all of managing a shop! There is almost always a staggering lack of staff at the tills, and numerous customers in long queues having to wait for ages to be able to pay for their purchases (and I've often had to wait 15-20+ minutes to be able to be served, often even longer and sometimes I've just had to give up, leave and go to another shop, or shops, to get what I need). Ironically, there are often several staff members lurking around towards the back of the store, idly hanging around chatting with each other, occasionally half-heartedly stocking half empty shelves when they can be bothered to do it, yet the tills remain mainly under-manned, with often only 2-3 assistants on them no matter how long the queues are. Recently as well, I've been unable to buy any of Wilkinson's everyday cat litter there as the shelves where it should be have been TOTALLY empty of it and there have only been very few bags of the most expensive litter, which is about 5 times the price of the everyday litter. This has happened to me numerous times recently, forcing me to traipse to Sainsbury's to get their cat litters. Ditto Wilkinson's pantyliners (the ones that currently cost 50p per pack). The other issue is that on several occasions I've had money off coupons for a certain brand of cat food yet when I went to a till to pay for them and gave the assistant the coupons I was informed that the manager had told staff there to no longer accept coupons if a product is already on special offer - yet prior to that they did accept money off coupons on items that were on special offer, and legally they have NO right whatsoever to refuse to take them. The manager(s) of this store really need to wake up and get their act together instead of being so lazy and horribly inept. If they're not prepared to manage the store properly (or are incapable of doing it) they should leave and give a better, capable person the chance to do it instead. Shame on them. read more

Wilkinsons was actually launched in 1930 in my very own Leicester apparently :O Since then the store has expanded nationally with almost 500 stores in operation across the UK and recently our local branch has been undergoing some serious refurbishment. I'm not sure whether this is the case elsewhere however. The logo has changed and I admit it's much nicer and has that sort of IKEA feel to it, whilst also the products on offer have been expanded massively to include furniture, DIY stuff and even standard groceries. BUT does Wilkinsons' attempt to reach out to crowds in these credit crunching times live up to the hype? Upon entering the store it definately has that modern, polished look to it. Gone are the messy shelf displays and horrible flooring that used to fill the store and in their place are neatly stacked and organised aisles. I always have found the staff to be friendly at Wilkinsons. I shop there a lot as a student to get discounts on toiletries and stationary which I think are the two areas where the store is strongest against its competitors. The staff are always willing to help you and will even take you to the product if you have trouble finding it, not just give you dodgy directions. The groceries section is something new and there are a lot of everyday brands available such as Kellogs cereals or Hovis bread. However I feel that this move isn't really a good one as the prices seem to be pretty much the same as any other supermarket and in some cases more expensive. I think they cfould do with launching their own food brand like Asda Smartprice or such. Also the fact that only your basic items are sold is a disadvantage as people are bound to use major supermarkets as there would be more variety or heck even pop down to the corner shop to get essentials rather than trot all the way into town The new DIY section is very impressive with lots of furniture items on offer such as beds, chairs, bathroom units and duvets, cushions and even paint. I would say that the items on offer are very strong and the prices in this instance are really quite encouraging. However as the scheme is in its early stages there is still a lot missing and I think they could expand this further. As I mentioned earlier the toiletries are of great value at Wilkinsons. You can usually find their own brand or more popular brands for very cheap prices. More so than most supermarkets or place slike Boots. Their own brand products are usually a lot more colourful than a standard white. My friend managed to spend 5 pounds on literally enough toiletry items for her and her small daughter to last for weeks. Christmas also brings in all the festive offers and I think if you're looking for a toiletry set for somebody then this is the best place to go as popular brands such as Lynx are available for only 3.99 at the moment when I've seen them for 3 or 4 pound more in other places. The plastic bags have been replaced by much stronger ones as before they always used to break, even when you didn;t actually have a lot in them, though one complaint I do have is how ridiculously small the tills seem to be and how crushed together they all are. There's hardly enough space to put all your items on and you would've thought that they would've made the area bigger considering they now stock more items. Overall Wilkinsons is a pleasant place to shop with a whole variety of propducts that could really cut down your dash to various different stores down to just one. read more

Great stuff in there and photo frames are cheap as well from a £1 upwards and I chose the silver one with white mount and it's cheap and lots of bargains as well and I go in there for photos frames really and staff are nice in there as well very helpful and great useful advice as well and if you ever want to work in there you can give it a go and it's also great for care homes who got to buy in bulk as well and they be happy to help and at times it gets busy but it's worth the trip down there into town and buses near by as well and taxis and outside to tie the dog to a ring till you get back as its guide dogs only and watch your kids as well as the store is full of breakables read more

What can yowu say about Wilkinsons? Great product sand truly unbelieavlble prices. Often stuff in here is much cheaper than Poundland! This store is large. My favourite section is the toy section, which has a great range to keep the youngsters happy at great prices Recent refurbishment has made the store even brighter and bubblier read more

I like the fact that wilkinsons has a little of everything (reminds me of woolies actually lol). They sell everything from DIY to toys to pet food to home accessories. Its quite large and well spaced out, it easy to find what you're looking for. The prices are really good too, usually cheaper than elsewhere. The staff are usually quite good too. read more

wilkinsons has changed such alot over the years gone are the days of just popping in for a tin of paint. the new look store is now bright spacious and very well leyed out you really can grab a bargin or two here, they do seem to sell loads including funrnature kitchen stuff clothes and of corse d i y it really is impressive with friendly staff. read more
