As a woman with limited knowledge, I wanted to be sure not to overpay, so I called a few places and East Coast Auto Repair offered to check my car out the next morning, which worked great for me. (I was right about the high quote from the dealership by almost $400.) I asked the person who greeted me at the shop if they had time to complete a thorough check of the car while they had it for my brakes and they did. When completed, their review included the work on the brakes and only the usual maintenance type things with no pressure for any additional, or possible unnecessary work. In fact, they appreciated my need to control my expenses and made suggestions on how I could get the most out of my car. The people working there were polite, knowledgeable and honest. They deserve their high ratings and I am happy to be able to have found this exceptional auto repair shop close to my new home. I highly recommend them.

After nearly a week before it was inspected, my mom--who was in contact with Scott throughout--was told the shifter cable was BROKEN and quoted $600 for the repair, plus about $200 for the new part, taxes, an oil change, and other related expenses, bringing the total estimate to around $800. At no point was debris mentioned. We got a second opinion at a garage on High Street in Danvers. They inspected the car the next day and said they performed a thorough assessment. They found nothing wrong with the shifter cable. Instead, they found a large walnut lodged against the cable, along with other debris, preventing it from shifting. After cleaning it out and completing the oil change, the car worked perfectly. Total cost: $50. AFTER this review was posted, Eric contacted us and said the shifter cable had come out of position and might eventually break--information that was NOT shared during the original diagnosis or almost week of communication my mom had with Scott. Being quoted close to $800 for a repair that ultimately wasn't necessary, and only receiving a fuller explanation AFTER speaking out publicly, raises serious concerns for us about the thoroughness and reliability of the initial assessment

He towed it back to the repair shop.The shop was less than five minutes away. I was charged a 25.00 town fee 132.00 for tow and 28.00 fuel charge total was 185.00. I had to then have car towed back to my home. Al's Auto told me that because it police request to remove car in road... AAA will reimurse me for the tow. I went in for a routine oil change. It was my first time there. I had called ahead of time to ask…read morehow much it would cost. The person on the phone told me about $60 and that would include the tire rotation and checking/topping off all fluids. Great. It went pretty quickly, and when Carlos told me they were almost done I asked whether the tires had been rotated. He asked if I wanted them done, and I said I thought that was included and he said no problem they would do them. I was a little surprised because that supposedly is included with the oil change. Then I went to pay the bill and he told me it was $107. What?? I told him about my previous phone call with another gentleman that worked there and what I was quoted. He ended up saying he would delete some things (?) and reduce the charge which he did and it ended up being about $53. Despite Carlos being very friendly and polite this left me feeling very unsure about the whole operation there. I won't go back.
