Unfortunately our experience went south from previous visits. I was first in the door Saturday morning for coffees. I ordered a drip and a latte from one of 2 young guys working the counter. The customers behind me received a latte before even my drip was ready and they proceeded to take the orders of multiple customers before starting mine. They finally decided to fill a drip and hand it to me, at which point I reminded them I ordered a latte as well. After a quick "I know" our latte was started. Not very proficient. My husband was waiting on our food next door, and although we ordered at exactly the same time, the food was actually ready before our 2 coffees. Most disappointing was the actual coffees...the drip was very weak but had lots of grounds, and my husband did not enjoy his latte, not sure what was off there but it was very weak too. Great little spot at an attempt to eat healthy on our time away from Portland up on Mt Hood. Inwill say their sandwiches are flipping huge, its a real massive spot to get for such a good price. We ended up getting a Ruben type sandwich and a turkey club of sorts and they both were quite good for the standard sandwich descriptions in the menu and I was pleased with what came out of the kitchen. This place is just a 10 minute drive from timberline and the small amount of effort will save you a pocket full of cash, they have quick turn around even with a line and alot of drinks that wouldn't be available anywhere else (Kombucha life boi) fresh, simple to the point a no brainer if you're trying to escape the row of barfood read more

This place is solid for Government Camp, which has a small selection of food options. We got takeout sandwiches (we both got the Avalanche which is a cold turkey sandwich.) I appreciated the thick, toasted bread and the pesto on it was tasty. It comes with a small bag of potato chips. The sandwiches were solid and made fresh. The employees were nice. I don't normally complain about prices, but $15.50 for a turkey sandwich meant that two sandwiches plus two cookies each plus a tip was a $40 lunch. If you need a good sandwich in Govy, this is a good bet, just be prepared to drop some dough (pun intended.) read more

Within the options at Government Camp, High Mountain Cafe was a pretty solid option for our coffee and breakfast needs. The breakfast burrito for $10 is packed with egg, potatoes and sausage - big enough for 2-3 breakfasts. I recommend this massive burrito baby if you're hungry. The bagel egg sandwiches were also very generous - while the bagel wasn't the best (think typical grocery store bagel texture), it hit the spot after a late night. The coffee was alright - nothing to go out of your way for, but they do have a few different flavor options. This place also offers lunch sandwiches and cocktails. While not a top tier place compare to haunts back home, it's a solid four stars for the Government Camp area, compared to the options nearby. read more

i broke my panini virginity here and it was honestly gr8 i typically dont eat bread but bruh this was so good i couldnt resist! wish i would have taken a picture of this life changing experience lol the owner/cook was incredibly nice and offered us a free for all on some of the breakfast foods on the hot bar he had leftover since he was closing soon. we got a free breakfast burrito and bacon egg and cheese bagel! he also had some veggie options as well that he offered us to take, which was incredibly nice of him! thank you kind stranger, hope to learn your name next time everything we had at this place was outstanding, and was just the meal we needed after a day at the mountain. yhe place is also very cozy and welcoming. we hope to revisit this place again next time we are up there, and continue to support this business! wish them all the best to for being such kind people during this time. this kind of generosity is pretty rare nowadays and we truly appreciate it! read more

We came in for a late lunch, and the place really wasn't busy but it took a long time for the food. First, the menu they display is wrong and you should ask first about any toppings not listed on the printed menu! Second, the individual making the sandwiches was extremely rude from the moment they walked in, snapping at customers multiple times. We got our food and when we pointed out the sandwich was made wrong - not according to the request. They threw the sandwich on the ground and blamed us for the error. One of our favorite breakfast spots in Govy Camp! Walk in, menu hanging above the chef's area on the right. Place your order at the register and listen for your name to be called. We're purposely up here on weekdays (Monday - Thursday), so we can avoid the chaos of too many weekend tourists. If you can manage to do the same, DO IT. The breakfast bagels here are tasty and their breakfast burrito could easily feed two folks. It's BIG & hearty. Great French toast dusted with powdered sugar too. I highly recommend the Hot Apple Pie adult beverage High Mountain offers. It's sweet and cidery and warms you from the inside with the magic of Tuaca. GLORIOUS. Got some young ones (or some young at heart grown ups) with you that need something to amuse them while you wait for your meals to be prepared? Send them to the back area where there is an extremely impressive arcade room, FULL of games. I didn't count how many they had when I was there last, but certainly at least a dozen. I bought a Jubelale while waiting for our sleigh ride. The cafe also sold plenty of coffee and warm drinks, cocktails, pastries and cold sandwiches, but for me, nothing says snow day like a seasonal craft ale. $3.75 is an amazing good price for a craft beer nowadays! I also loved that the cafe had big, overstuffed leather sofas and a small electric fireplace to keep us warm while we waited. We were only here for a short time, but the service was good and it was nice to have somewhere to grab a drink and get warm at while we waited. read more

As we were entering it seemed the cafe was closed as lights were off and fan was not going on a sunny warm day, but a lady shouted from a car saying that she will inside on a few minutes to serve us. We came in looking for a good pastrami Rueben and we're willing to pay the $16 for it and $6 for a canned drink. The sandwich tasted alright but was missing most of the pastrami. There was only TRACES of meat on it! Quite the rip off. The $6 bottle of organic lemonade expires at the end of the month and tastes/smells like nail polish remover. The can of of Kombucha was tasty. I wasn't sure what to expect but I wanted some halfway decent breakfast before a day on the slopes. Pulled in here right around opening and it wasn't too busy yet. The lady who took my order at the counter was very friendly. I ordered the Alpine Slider and was very satisfied with the value for the money and the price. I got a made to order bagel sandwich that was huge! It was very good and very large and held me over until lunchtime, even going hard on the mountain. Can't wait to go back and try more options. Before I even had a chance to read the menu, she was already being rude about my dog. She could have asked nicely for service pets only but decided to jump straight into naggin b**** mode. I'm going to be around for a bit and thought it would be nice to swing by there every morning for coffee and breakfast but after her attitude, I couldn't trust that they wouldn't spit in my food or something similar. I just ordered a coffee and left. Bad decision... I should've just left. The coffee is disgusting! Tastes like they used the cheapest coffee and when they made it, yesterday, they used way too hot of water. Nice little local cafe in Government Camp near Mt. Hood. From what I could tell, it is the only sandwich shop in the town. We ordered 2 fresh sandwiches and both were STACKED high. They also offer a few ready-made items (including a vegan wrap). I ordered the veggie sandwich (the name escapes me) and asked them to make it vegan. The cashier was a bit confused by this but the woman making the sandwich understood (though wasn't entirely sure if certain items like sauces were vegan or not). Would love to see a few more vegan options but overall would recommend. read more

We tried to have breakfast at a place across the street based on better reviews, but after seeing the dicey interior and stacks of meat setting out on an open counter where you walk in to be seated, we hightailed it out the door and spotted this cafe. The interior is cozy...a mash up of armchairs, standard diner tables and a couch. There is a small coffee bar that offers up spiked versions should you so desire to have a toddy or the like to warm your bones. Since we had kids with us, hot cocoa was the beverage of choice. The breakfast menu offers up biscuits and sausage gravy, breakfast sliders, omelets, a breakfast burrito, waffles and some light parfait options. I'd rate this place with an additional star if they'd simply had a few items we wanted to order! We tried to order biscuits and gravy and they were out of the gravy. We switched up to a burrito which was filled with sausage...isn't sausage gravy simple to whip up with a roux and some milk and sausage? The burrito was supposed to include homemade pico de gallo, which they also had run short on. It was also missing the sour cream. The sliders come on a choice of an everything bagel or a plain bagel. Only plain bagels were available. The fruit compote that can be ordered with the waffles was also not available so a plain waffle with syrup and butter was ordered instead. Overall, this is a solid option in Government Camp when you have some early morning hunger hitting you. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. For a tiny mountain town on a quiet day, this cafe was hopping! I was inspired to write this review because I was so impressed with Stephanie behind the coffee counter. The line was multiple people deep, yet she remained perfectly nonplussed. And she proceeded to craft incredibly tasty lattes and specialty drinks without missing a beat. She even smiled and chatted as she whipped up our orders in no time, seemingly with zero stress. Kudos to her! I should also add that the Turkey pesto premade wrap was an ideal, and quite tasty, grab&go lunch to fuel our snow day activities. read more

Very nice little cafe that is a great fix for coffee and food. The food came up very quickly, but the drinks took forever both mornings we were there. The biscuits and gravy were huge, even for a half order! Not the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had, but they definitely hit the spot on a cold winter morning. The bloody marys were nothing to write home about. Not spicy at all which is a crime in my book. We went in for Sunday breakfast around 10:00 and the place was packed - no where to sit. We ended up sitting in the ARCADE! It was weird, it was cool. Pretty fitting for Governement Camp which is a cool/weird/small mountain town. The baked goods were sharing space in the refrigerator with the ham. To start with, that causes the baked goods to take on the flavor of the ham. Then there's the fact that refrigerating baked goods reduces their quality, and causes cold spots in the center. read more

I hate to give such a low review - this was a mixed result visit for us. First, we had breakfast. The Bagel Sandwich we ordered was slow to come out, and was falling apart from the beginning. The ingredients were fine, but mis-matched in size and the whole thing was unable to be eaten as a sandwich, really. There was a load of mayo on it as well, which seemed excessive. Our second order was a waffle with strawberries and cream. We opted for that because they only had imitation syrup, not real maple. Well, I wish I hadn't because the strawberries were clearly frozen and mush, and the whipped cream was all over the plate. Fun, but not really what we were looking for. The coffee was just average and in a to go cup, even though we were eating in. On the positive side, everyone here was very nice, and we took a HUGE sandwich with us to go. We wound up eating the sandwich at McNeil Point a few hours and several hiking miles later, where it was very satisfying, with fresh turkey and good toppings. We're mainly rating this as a breakfast place - I think for lunch or wraps it's pretty good. read more
