I am from Michigan and let me tell you just how much I enjoyed this state park. It is absolutely clean, beautiful, picturesque, serene, lovely... I can go on and on! It is a breathtaking, well maintained and absolutely worthy of a visit. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our walk along the trails and will be sure to come back soon before it gets too cold. We came at the perfect time of year (Fall) where when the heat began to build we were on our way back to the car. But you can fish, have a lovely lunch or just sit and collect your thoughts while looking at nature and the rushing waters. Truly a worthy and breathtaking destination to visit. There weren't a lot of bugs and though we smelled some wildlife we didn't see any animals. Perhaps if we would've taken the back trails. A lot of families come to get a bit of exercise and I liked that element as well. Again treat yourself to this Georgia gem. You won't regret it but for sure you'll come back!

My dog and I love going when the weather allows! There are different trails with varying difficulty depending on what we are in the mood for. Regardless of the trail, it is BEAUTIFUL! This is definitely a favorite spot for me and my pittie!! Be prepared to pay to park ($5 I believe)

Really nice park, I enjoyed the walking trails and the fall foliage was amazing. Amazing views of the falls from both sets of trails.

Absolutely beautiful state park with waterfalls and fairly intense hiking trails. Come prepared! Have water and the right attire. Lots of fun but couldn't stay long because of summer heat. There are two parking areas on each side of the water. One side has a visitor's center. Will come back soon!

Spectacular waterfall views.

A beautiful summer day with relatively low humidity in July. We went in the late afternoon in order to avoid crowded trails and summer heat & rays. This is a well maintained Georgia State Park with MANY amenities to enjoy. Check it out, you will certainly enjoy!!

Stopped by here on the way home from South Georgia for a picnic lunch. We set up our Eno hammock and had sandwiches next to the river. It was very nice and easily accessible. When you drive up, you'll see the parking. You pay 5$ or you use your national parks parking pass and then you walk across the street and the trail is right there. This is only a few steps onto the trail, so not a far hike at all. We walked farther along the trail looking for trees to hang the Eno but ended up walking back towards the start of the trail to be by the waterfall and there were better trees there anyways. Definitely would recommend stopping by here if you're in the area. It is also worth the day trip from Atlanta. It is only about an hour :)

From a geologist's perspective. I've explored most of the park and I often stop by to break up long drives. The entrance fee is $5 and I find that very reasonable to see the unique features in the park. For me the star of the park is the intrusive granitic rock. Love the large crystals, particularly the feldspars (whitish minerals). The trails are across the street from the old dam and follow the creek down stream. All together I think they add up to just over 4 miles. With all the exposed rock, the heat can be draining in the summer months, so bring water. The trails are well groomed and marked. The park is popular and quite busy on the weekends. Which leads to my complaint. The abundance of cigarette butts and trash - especially close to the popular spots. However, walk 10 minutes beyond and you get past their ability/desire to walk. There are bathroom facilities in the park and several nearby gas stations.

We stopped through as our first stop on our family RV trip. We did not intend on doing much, as this was our closest stop with some form of "nature" in our eyes, coming from Orlando. We planned on getting in late, so we called ahead and got the gate code (DO THIS IF YOU PLAN ON ARRIVING LATE). We didn't get in until after midnight, so it was a quick park and plug in. We booked site 87, which is at the end of the loop, an easy walk down to the river. We like both 87 and 88. It was quiet (only 3 campers in the loop) so the crowd was not an issue. It was very hot, with a forecast of 99. By the time we pulled out at 1030, we still had plenty of shade. The bathroom was nice and clean. Amenities include putt putt, boat rentals, paddle board rentals, hiking etc. we did not partake in any. We did stop in the shop to style, and it is cute and seems stocked. Carla was a gem. She stopped by to check on us and was sooo sweet. I could sit and chat with her all day. She drove me to site 27 and recommended for our family and she was perfect. The world needs more Carla. And campgrounds like this :) We had a 30' RV America rental and no issues.

Chasing waterfalls is one of my favorite hobbies. Since it rained overnight and cleared by morning, I was determined to go hiking at High Falls State Park. Rarely are there any waterfalls south of Atlanta. 99.9% of the waterfalls are north of Atlanta. Because I wanted to changed directions this time, I decided to go to High Falls State Park. I have a city car so I get excited when it's a state park with good parking area. All state parks have $5 admissions per car or if you have the annual pass, then you're all good. Regardless of it being south for me to get there, it would still take me an hour to get there, just like it would for me to go up north to another waterfall. The visitor's center is not hard to find. You would have to get out of it and pass the bridge and there's the damn on your left and your immediate left, there is the parking lot. The hiking trail is to your right across the street. Since I came after a good rain, the dam let out a lot of water and captured great pics. We walked across the street to begin the hiking adventure. There were wooden stairs, you see the waterfalls on your right. We took lots of photos there. Even though I have seen much more beautiful waterfalls, I like the fact that it is still gorgeous and I was able to get close enough for great photos. The hiking trail round trip is less than 2 miles and loops back around. I was hoping to see more waterfalls but nope. There is another hiking trail on the other side of the river. We only hiked a little to it cause I saw on the map there is an overlook but unfortunately cannot get to it. We saw a small "overlook" or "bridge" towards the dam so decided to go there since we saw others go there. It's still a beautiful view and it's always great to be outdoors and be with mother nature. 39/2017

This is such amazing place to visit in Georgia and not to far from Warner Robins, Ga. We did some Stand-up Paddling and tent camping this weekend and planning on going again next weekend for more awesome shots

We had about 24hrs to kill in Georgia and stumbled across this river/RV camping. Everything about this stop exceeded our expectations. Breath taking views of lush greenery and bubbling water. We camped with our RV for about $40 for the night. We had a bit of trouble going to the campsite without a gate code, then having to turn around and check in at a different location all while pulling a 38ft 5th wheel. Staff was friendly and the grounds were gorgeous and well maintained. Water and 50amp hook up, dump station on the way out, well placed restrooms and trash throughout grounds. My four year old loved exploring the trails and river, and biking on the tree shaded paved paths in the RV camping area. Excellent family entertainment! We would love to come back with a few more days to enjoy the area.

Often find that the trails are closed, but the falls are lovely and it's nice to stick your feet in the cool water.

Ask the Community - High Falls State Park

Is there swimming available here?

I believe there is in the lake and river.

Does high falls have cabins for rent?

Yes, there are several cabin available to rent. The do not allow pets at the cabins though. I did see some fly fisherman staying at the cabins. Its right next to some trail heads and just a 5 min walk from the top off the waterfall.

Are dogs allowed on the trails?

Yes! And I've seen plenty of people get into the water with their dogs.

How difficult is it for a 55 year old with an arthritic knee to get to?

Well..I’ll start off by saying that I am 65 and have osteoarthritis. The family stayed in one of the yurts..ours was very close to a fishing pier. Without any help I made it down there several times. The facilities was directly across from our… Read more

Staff was very pleasant. -Camp hosts keep the place so clean and neat -Bathrooms were amazing! 2 stalls (one regular and one handicap) and 2 showers (one regular and one handicap). These were spotless. -Really neat kids playground in the new section Cons: -The road in is windy and VERY narrow. -New section: The sites are spacious but man... Not sure who designed it. All the pull thrus had slopes. We actually disconnected the Jeep and backed into our pull thru site as we may have bottomed out trying to actually pull in forward. The spot where the patio is was level and long enough for our 40' bus, but the jeep was on a slant when parked either in front or behind the coach. We saw this in most of the sites. I think if we stayed in the new section again, we'd chose one of the back in sites. -Hook ups were near the front of the site. Good thing we have long hoses! In fact, this was their 45th year celebrating Groundhog Day. The gates opened a little prior to 6am and there was plenty of parking. The restrooms were right next to the parking lot and not only were they clean...they were HEATED, which was so wonderful since it was about 25 degrees outside. It was a short walk to the festivities, less than a half mile, but it was through the woods (VERY CLEARLY marked!) and over some wooden boardwalks (not sure how handicap accessible this is but it was an easy walk for this out of shape girl.) Everything was well maintained and looked beautiful even in the dark. We were able to see a bald eagle and another hawk close to the groundhog enclosure. If it would have been a bit warmer (the pond was frozen over!) I would have loved to stay and see more of the animals. Especially the otters. This girl LOVES otters. There was quite a bit of merchandise available: stuffed groundhogs, bracelets, a variety of buttons, several different tee shirts, and magnets. We bought a few items and entered the raffle to win a gift bag that included the original copy of last years proclamation. It was a really cold wait for the 7:31 proclamation time, although the park did pass out hand warmers. I think we could have waited a bit longer but since this was our first time, we had no idea how big of a crowd to expect. I would guess that there were 100-150 people. Being so early, we were right up front but I think we would have been about to see if we had gotten there a bit later. All of the employees (volunteers?) were very nice and helpful. We met many people who do this annually and there were even news crews here. It was very fun and definitely worth attending. We will definitely be returning but only when it is absolutely warmer! Ps.
