Very happy with my visit here. I wanted my skin checked just to make sure I had no bad growths and Sheila was not only pleasant but very thorough even checking the scalp. I am elated to find a spot so caring and kind. Not only did she check my skin but she knew I was unhappy about some rough patches in many areas and got right to work freezing them off. I will be going back to get more done in a few months. Over the years, I have seen Dermatologist and mostly had good care. In my younger years it was for acne so I knew what to expect but I was happy that she explained the procedure and the after care before she started. It is wonderful to find such a caring person for skin care. Next time I go in, I will talk to them about other things they can help me with my skin care journey. At my age, I could use all the help I can get. I was shocked and laughing that the paper gown they gave me to put on tore right down the middle as I tried to open it. A nice gal at the desk gave me another one and as I put it on carefully, it started tearing in two spots. Just be aware the gowns are thin so you might want to bring a robe. I had some small bumps on my face that were new and of concern during the pandemic. My health insurance has telemedicine so I started there and the dermatologist I consulted with told me they were nothing to worry about - just milia, and prescribed Retin A. Well it's my face so...I made a dermatologist appointment anyway. Dr. Hayes was so nice and friendly and knowledgeable - she knew right away they weren't milia and in fact, one was basal cell carcinoma. Instead of making another appointment to come back, she just cut it off my forehead (I appreciated not having to wait longer!) and burned the other two off. She made a not very fun experience ok and did a great job stitching up the area where she had to cut in to remove the basal cell carcinoma. My primary doc was impressed that she couldn't identify where I'd even had it removed, just a couple months later. I have a history of skin cancer in my family and have some fair, Irish skin that sunburns real easily. So now I go back to see Dr. Hayes for checks every six months and continue to have her thorough, knowledgeable exams to catch stuff. I haven't had to wait long any time I've been there and the front desk staff is polite and easy to reach for scheduling. Hopefully I won't need too many more things removed...I did have a mole removed last time that had been bugging me forever. It wasn't dangerous but Dr. Hayes understood and removed it easily. She's easy to talk to and efficient and I can't really ask for more. read more

I have had laser hair removal on my face, underarms and Jamie the aesthetician was the absolute BEST! My skin is flawless and I have been very pleased with her impeccable work! Never had any side effects from her treatments. I have medium brown skin and the yag laser works the best! Unfortunately just recently Jamie is no longer working at the practice and was informed by her the laser machine is broke down and they are not replacing it so after 6 great years I am now in search for a new tech. Fortunately I found High Desert Dermatology and was scheduled within weeks (unlike other providers who were booked through the end of the year). Although I was not seen until about 20minutes after my appointment time, I have to say it was definitely worth the wait. I tried numerous times to get ahold of the electrolysis provider here. First of all the front desk staff did not seem to have any information about the electrolysis provided - they did not know the provider's schedule, the type of electrolysis offered, and while they could tell me the price they were not able to tell me how long the treatment would take as this place does it by treatment area, not by amount of time, which is quite strange to me. Numerous times I left my number with the front desk staff and they said the electrologist would call back. Well, she never did, so I guess I will take my money elsewhere and find a provider who can actually manage to call back prospective clients.... read more

I have been going to High Desert Dermatology since the 1980's to see Dr. Krause who sadly is now retired. He is an excellent skin doctor and will be sorely missed. Fortunately I was able to see Dr. Hayes , Krause's partner and establish a new patient status quickly and easily. She was wonderful. She took extra care in looking at my skin concerns and painlessly removed a suspicious mole. It was a smooth transition to be able to get in to see her and I will continue to see her because of her excellent bedside manner, and knowledge. As for the rest of the staff, most of who have worked there for years are all friendly, kind and professional. They definitely care about their patients. Jill my long time aesthetician is the person who takes really good care of my skin and has for 20+years. Jill is an expert in the use of all of the current skin care technologies used in the office and will tell you which treatment will give you the best treatment and results for your skin type and age. What I love about Jill is that she is friendly and gentle as well as professional and she will never "sell a treatment". No pressure, just information which leaves you to choose what's best. It seems impossible to get a derm appointment in Reno! However, HDD was wonderful to schedule me in as a new patient within a reasonable amount of time (a few weeks). My appointment time was about 10 minutes late, which for a doctors office is ok in my book...the doctor (Dr. Hayes) breezed in fast, was very kind, comfortable and knowledgeable. My appointment was routine (mole check) so it went very quick. I felt rushed which is why 4 stars not 5, but I do recommend them and will go back for my derm needs. read more

I tried to make small talk due to the bit of awkwardness in the room. I was looking forward to seeing a new dermatologist regularly. If she would have taken her time and been more approachable, I would have booked more procedures. For constructive criticism, new patients don't always feel comfortable talking about other concerns or interests. Instead of telling me that he didn't deal with ganglion cysts because dermatologists don't deal with ganglion cysts they had me take off work to charge my insurance to say I don't deal with this. Having recently moved from the Bay Area to Reno, I needed to find a dermatologist. After studying a number of reviews posted on this and other sites, I decided to make an appointment with one of the doctors at High Desert Dermatology. I chose the High Desert group because my need was medical, and several of the other practices seemed to emphasize cosmetic services. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist told me the next available time was on Monday of the following week, with Dr. Krause. The reviews I had read about Dr. Krause were--shall we say--mixed, but I took the appointment and hoped for the best. Before moving to Reno my skin problems had been treated by a well regarded dermatologist in Berkeley. I therefore knew what level of professionalism to expect. My first impression of the office was positive: the location was convenient, parking was plentiful, the waiting room was comfortable, and the office staff were polite and efficient. As my appointment time was 1:30, I arrived at 1:15 to fill out what I assumed would be the usual heap of paperwork. Instead, I was given a simple one-page form to complete. At precisely 1:30, the medical assistant called me in. She asked a few questions, made some notes in my chart, and told me the doctor would be with me in a few minutes. As I sat waiting, I wondered whether I was going to meet Ian B.'s 2011 Dr. Krause ("5 minutes of condescension" and "biting comments") or Wes F.'s 2013 Dr. Krause ("friendly, thorough & efficient"). To my relief, Dr. Krause #2 walked through the door, smiling and greeting me pleasantly. He spent nearly half an hour going over the various options for treating my actinic keratoses, which reappear on my face and elsewhere with stubborn regularity. He burned off the worst of them and wrote down the names of several creams for subsequent treatment so that I could check with the pharmacy to see which of them might be covered by my prescription plan. In all, I could not have been more pleased with Dr. Krause and his office staff. The young medical assistant even addressed me as Ms. -------, a rare occurrence. I have often thought that online reviews say at least as much about the writers as they do about the person or business being reviewed. Some people are difficult and hard to please, so I always try to balance the reviews that read like hit pieces with those that seem more considered. read more

40 minute wait times PAST my appointment times are insane and insulting. If I make the effort to be on time, the doctor should as well. It's called professionalism. All in I waited for over an hour for an appointment that Dr. Krause gave about 5 minutes to. There was NO EXAM of my skin, which really is what I thought a dermatologist was for. Instead I got 5 minutes of condescension directed at me, some back biting comments about the sort of soap I use, and I recommendation to use lye based products. 1950 called, your advice is out of date. Then, to top it all off, I felt rushed out the door, and paid $69 for the honor of waiting around. Not going back there again. read more

They're all very welcoming, incredibly informative, patient and compassionate. The staff as well are also very caring, informative and professional. I came here to see Jamie for laser hair. I had my bikini area done YEARS ago, but I didn't quite finish so I wanted to get it done. I also last minute decided to do my lower legs - I don't know who to compare prices to, but I think they are fair and I KNOW that the laser hair works; I'm so happy that the hair is gone! My only thing is that sometimes she gets pretty busy and a little behind (mainly due to other clients showing u late) & I have to come back for a follow up usually. She doesn't charge me for it, but i don't live in Reno so it's quite the drive for me. Highly recommended - I've had friends complain that they've spent a ton of money & it didn't work for them. I came here today to get some moles looked at, acne, and a few abscess type lesions. Also was curious about Latisse. It had been a couple years since I last saw a dermatologist, so just wanted to get everything looked over. I saw Dr. Kraus. The wait wasn't long. He came in promptly. Scheduled a appointment only a month out. A lot less then everywhere else in town. Dr Kraus seems like a nice guy. However, he just scanned over my skin for my miles. Not really looking over it carefully like I would have hoped. When I explained the abscess lesions and my acne he kinda just shoved it off like it's not that bad and I could just use some of the over the counter products that he recommended. Also he mentioned that I can take some oral medications like a low antibiotic. I told him that I would prefer not and that I would just like a prescription for a external ointment. He was very adamant on me taking the oral meds. Another thing that I was not fond of was his breath. I work in the dental field and his breath reaked of rotting teeth and/or periodontal disease(bone loss). Just tells me how am I supposed to have someone recommend me something for my health and well being if he can't even take care of himself. Just my opinion. It just turned me off. I left there feeing like it was a waste of time and not having my opinion matter. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

I have been going to Dr. Krause for about 10 years. I have eczema and about twice a year it flairs up to the point where nothing will work on it, usually in the spring and fall. Dr. Krause gives me a Kenalog shot with no problem. I have gone to urgent care, paid $200 and the "doctor" there didn't "believe" in Kenalog so I went away still suffering. If you have ever had eczema you know what I am talking about. It can drive you crazy! Dr. Krause has always been friendly, professional and helpful. He is not touchy feely, but I appreciate that. He makes sure I have the proper dose based on past treatments and does not waste my time with chit chat or an inquisition about steroids. The person talking about her boyfriend almost dying needs to get a grip! If it was as bad as she says, she should have called 911! If you have symptoms so bad that you can't sleep...go to the emergency room no matter what the cost is!! Just sayin! read more
