Forest Lawn Funeral Home - JP Richardson, the Big Bopper, Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, Beaumont

Hollywood Cemetery in Beaumont is a peaceful place, but it takes a little patience to navigate…read morebecause the lots and sections aren't marked very much at all, so we wandered for a bit before the landscape finally opened up in that quiet southwest corner where we found what we were seeking, the final resting place of JP Richardson, the Big Bopper, a simple stone carrying the weight of a sad story and a life cut short too soon, and standing there you feel both the stillness of the grounds and the echo of a moment in American music that ended far too early. After that, you must stop and pay your respects at the grave of Mildred "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias. With more championships than I can list here, I'll just go with these two: - In 2008, ESPN ranked her the 10th Greatest North American Athlete of the century, the highest-ranked woman on their list. - She won two gold medals and one silver in track and field at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, setting four world records and becoming the only athlete in history (male or female) to win individual Olympic medals in running, throwing, and jumping events. Keep in mind that this is an active cemetery so please be respectful of those who may be mourning a loss. [Review 346 of 2026 - 672 in Texas - 25533 overall]

Since then we have lain to rest her husband, Eugene Stratton Paxton, my grandfather, as well as great grandparents, step grandparents and an uncle. In 2018, we laid my stepfather to rest, but we used Broussard's for mortuary services. My mom handled these arrangements with my assistance. She was very impressed with the way Forest Lawn helped her through the selection and purchase of a double plot. She chose to pre-pay for her final arrangements and got a nice discount. Mom finally passed this past September and it was left to me to get it all set up and organized. I could not have done that without the exceptional assistance and guidance I received from Laci McClendon, one of the funeral directors. I would like to highly recommend her to anyone that reads this review. She was only a text message away, even on weekends and late nights. Everyone should be so lucky to have her at their side when going through the emotional distress that often accompanies the loss of loved ones.

My dad Michael Nolan Sr. had planned for his passing in advance. He had selected Proctors Mortuary to handle his body and burial. He prepaid and was able to stop in a handful of times to confirm his arrangements before he passed. My experience with his passing has been stressful and traumatic, and I assume this is normal with anyone who loses a parent. It became even more stressful when small town rumors about quality and professionalism. Mr. Proctor and his staff assured me that my dad was in the hands of the best and that they would handle him and my family with care. Proctors set up a group chat with my siblings and myself. He let us know what was happening every step of the way and assured me that they understood all the drama and chaos that ensues when a loved one passes. I drove in on a Friday and Mr. Proctor greeted us and allowed me to view my dad (by this point he had been deceased for 2 weeks). When I tell you that my father looked great I mean it!!!! Dad looked like he came on from barbecuing and he had his normal tan. I thought he was really there...that's how great the body looked!!! The service was well executed and I would say that proctors flawlessly delivered. We then had a burial 2 days later and my dad arrived at the cemetery and Proctors made sure to oversee everything until he was laid to rest. I recommend Proctors to anyone who is in need of an excellent mortuary. They are the best in the area, always available, and their work speaks for itself. I am beyond thankful for all they did to assist me through this difficult time.

One of these was that Proctors Mortuary would handle his body and the transport of it. They not only did a beautiful job with his body and all of the church arrangements, but they were so kind to us as a family. From their facilities, holding meetings with the family for specifics and the timeliness of services, we are eternally grateful to them for the amazing professionalism that was delivered to us.
