History
Established in 1929.
Since opening back in 1929 under the ownership of Mr. & Mrs. Ingwald Nelson, who owned the resort until 1947, High Banks has been providing relaxing and fun vacations on Lake Winnibigoshish AKA "Winnie." High Banks is also home of the 2nd place state record 54lb. 0oz. muskie, caught by Art Lions, in 1957! The record was broken in 2021 on Mille Lacs Lake.
In May of 2021, the Mostad family moved to High Banks Resort and officially became the owners of High Banks Resort in April of 2022. We feel so honored to call High Banks our new home. Evan has always dreamed of owning his own resort and has worked on Lake Winnie since he was 15 years old. We even met at a nearby resort while Evan was bartending and Tali was working the lodge. In January of 2024, we welcomed our daughter into the adventurous resort life as well.
We would love to extend an invitation to you & your family to join us at High Banks Resort on Lake Winnie for your next vacation!
The Mostads
Meet the Business Owner: Evan M.
At 15 years old, I took a job as a dock boy/maintenance worker at a local resort on Winnie. I had already worked at several resorts back home in the Red Lake area, and it didn't take me long to fall in love with the resort life, customers, and of course the fishing. All throughout my teens, college years, and mid twenties, I knew I wanted to own my own resort someday. That opportunity surprised my wife and I in 2021, when High Banks Resort went up for sale. By April of 2022, we took over the resort after having one year under our belt living and working here. By then, the guests and staff already felt like family. We have been learning and growing as resort owners (and fishing as often as we can) ever since.
