Higgins & White Dental on Southside - I can't say enough great things about this practice. Dr. White, the hygienists, and the front desk staff are all so kind, knowledgeable, and professional. This office is in it for the people, not the money. After years without dental care and a move to the Jacksonville area, my boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere to go and we were referred to this office by a friend. After coming here, I can confidently say I wouldn't feel comfortable going anywhere else. We both needed extensive work done and they made it all so easy to digest. They are also very explanatory and you can tell they do their best to work with you when necessary. You can communicate with them easily via phone, and you're able to text them as well! When I first moved to Jacksonville, I went to a dentist that tried to sell me on every possible dental procedure that she could possibly convince me of doing. After my 1st dental experience, I was referred to Dr Higgins by a coworker. He helped clarify my problems and avoid unnecessary procedures! I have now been going to him for five years, and I have no issues. He is quite busy with appointments, but he will answer all of your questions. Great dentist that doesn't care to knock your head off with unnecessary "upgrades" for things you simply don't need, unlike another particular dentist on Baymeadows Rd. I have been dreading the hunt for a new dentist since I moved to Jacksonville six months ago. I mustered up the energy to look up my "in network providers" via my insurance website and found the nearest dentist. I read a few reviews and decided it was worth a shot. I was able to make an appointment within a couple of weeks at my preferred time and D-Day came before I knew it. I received helpful text messages beforehand so I knew what to expect. I was pleased that they were still following Covid safety procedures. I checked in via text then waited a few minutes to get the response telling me to come in. Everyone was friendly and masked up. The dental hygienist was so kind, explaining all of the different x-rays and exam techniques. She also asked me questions to get to know a little about me and it definitely helped me relax. Dr. Higgins came in and did the exam. He went over the x-rays and explained what he was seeing. He also took the time to get to know me, which was unexpected and I was grateful. They gave me good news, no necessary procedures and I got the go ahead to schedule a cleaning. I would have preferred to do the exams and cleaning all in one appointment, but that's not how they do it at this particular office. The office was clean and inviting. Overall, I am very satisfied. I'm looking forward to never having to find a new dentist again. read more

Multiple problems here: Poor customer service in over billing up front, *and* how it was handled, in my view. Then the dentist refused to call me to discuss it, *however* he was willing to have the office assistant (who originally messed up the billing) call me and request I pull the negative review from their nearly all "5 star" review site they pay for (DemandForce). When I didn't do so right away, they pulled the negative review themselves. It appears that may be the main way they have top reviews online --- they are removing most, or perhaps ALL, of the negative ones. When I re-posted the review of my experience AND that of my girlfriend who went there and would never go back based on the dental services she received --- they pulled *that* review, as well. This just reinforces the adage "don't believe what you read on the Internet." Feel free to take *my* review with a grain of salt. It's is 100% accurate, but at least Higgins et al should not be able to remove this particular review. read more

If you're looking for another dentist that will stretch your treatments out into as many appointments as possible so they can bill extra this is it. If you have a full time job and can't take a lot of time off during the day during the week, find a different office. In response to their comment. Thats a perfectly reasonably explanation and would have been great if that's what they told me when I called. I was last seen a year and 5 months ago (being a single foster mom and donating a kidney to a stranger last December delayed my schedule a bit) and I no longer work near their office. Which is why I called and asked if they would need to do a new patient exam in which I would just see someone near my current home/work. With my records pulled up she told me on the phone that that she could do the cleaning without a new patient exam. She also confirmed this in a second call later that day. Im not a dental professional so I had to take her word for it. I was 15 minutes late due to driving a long distance with heavy commuters at 8 am and not being able to drop my foster children off at daycare until 7. If that was the reason they needed to decline the cleaning then that's what they would have told me when I arrived. Instead, they're trying to point out issues and make it my fault to deflect from lying to me in not one but two phone calls. The dental assistant told me once I was in the chair that she couldn't do the cleaning because of the length of time since my last visit, not my delayed arrival. Integrity goes a long way with me so trust me, I would never be back to this office. read more

I've been going here for about 5 years. The office staff is always friendly and greet me by name. They treat not only myself but my parents and my husband. For my husband is so skiddish about dentists, they are very patient and understanding. They are always attentive to my dental needs without trying to upsell with something I don't need. Every cleaning is thorough and you get to even watch T.V. on the ceiling while you get work done. A positive note for me is that the channel is usually on HGTV--yay me! read more

I am extremely disappointed in my experience at Higgins Dental this week. I originally came in because one of my fillings had fallen out. I was extremely upset/shocked to find out that I needed my 4 wisdom teeth removed as I have never had a tooth removed in my 40 years. In my opinion, Dr. Higgins demonstrated a cavalier and flippant attitude while discussing this with me. While his bedside manner has always been blunt and no nonsense, his attitude during this visit had a profound effect on me. I left the office not only shocked, but sad and in tears. I called the next morning and spoke with the receptionist. I told her that I had a bad experience the day before and wanted to send my records to another practice for a second opinion. Her only response was "Ok, I'll email you the release form." I honestly thought she would have wanted to find out why I had a bad visit. I have been a patient of the office since 2012 and have referred many friends and colleagues to his office. I expected to be treated with care and compassion. read more

I really miss this dentist. I just moved and have had to find a new dentist and the new dentist has shown me why Higgins was not a bad dentist at all. The new dentist, Greenberg Dental: Has an answering service, which ends up causing more games of phone tag than necessary. Higgins: Never had any issues getting right through and it's always to the receptionist right in the office The new dentist: When I called to make an appt for an exam and cleaning, she said alright and scheduled me for an appt. When i got to the appointment, I found out that it was just for exams and x-rays and that the hygienist wasn't there, so I would have to come back another day. It really annoyed me in general, but most of all because they didn't tell me up front. The kicker was when I showed up today at 5pm for my cleaning appt, it turns out the lady who had scheduled me during the exam made an error and scheduled me when the hygienist wasn't there again so I will have to waste yet another trip to that dentist. Higgins: Never scheduled me for a separate appointment like that. I actually have never experienced a dentist that split an exam and cleaning into two separate appts like that The new dentist: x-rays every 6 months Higgins: I was on a normal once a year schedule. Now, to be fair, the new dentist does have night hours and weekend hours, so Higgins loses in that category. I never had anything extensive done at Higgins, so I can't speak to anything but my cleanings and exams and everything always went by super smoothly. I never felt like they were out to get my money. I personally really liked them and change is always hard when you found a place you were comfortable with. While another reviewer may have had a hard time with them (it happens everywhere), I never did. read more

This dental office is #1 in my book. They care and they work with you and give you the service everyone deserves and they show how much in everything they do and how they treat their patients. I would drive 8 hours if I did not live here in Jacksonville to use this office and this dentist. The staff goes above and beyond what is called for in a business. They treat you right and never make you feel that "you should have taken better care of your teeth." They give you the service that you deserve and need. I don't normally review many things, but my experiences here have been very different from other reviewers. Our whole family has been going to Dr Higgins for about 2 years with no problems. The front desk staff is always pleasant and helpful, the hygenists do a good job, and Dr Higgins is not like most dentists these days who always seem to want to sell you something. My husband was told by another dentist he had 3 cavities, who wanted to charge $500, and Dr Higgins said they were just areas to "watch". No problems with those areas since then. I also bring my young children, and the staff is always helpful and accomodating with them. The only reason I'm giving 5 stars is because we've never had to have any major dental work done, so I don't feel like I can review that aspect of the practice. read more
