A rich, delicious, avocado and black bean huevos rancheros... I would have been pleased to be served a huevos rancheros like this in So Cal. So great! I need to drag my butt down here to eat more often.

This is an Eastern European inspired/infused cafe. Meaning that the food here is great. If you don't know what Eastern European food is like, trust me, it is meaty goodness. Now, they also serve the stock standard breakfast and sandwiches, but don't shy away from the different - as that is the best thing about eating here. The Corn fritters here are great! But don't go past the huevos rancheros, seriously worth the try. The coffee here is good, not great, but good. But this is not the reason that you come - you come here for the food. Now, the space is small, so you might have to wait. Or just get take away. They do a special if you order one of their rolls (get it is with the spiced tomatoe sauce) and coffee takeaway, so that is always an option.

A large group stumbled out the door singing to some Portuguese song as we tried to enter the restaurant. Happy customers usually means good service and food - tick! Our expectations were pretty high when we waited for our table to be set up. We looked over at the other tables and noticed the serving sizes are pretty generous, with lots of chips on the side. We settled on the whole grilled chicken and pork belly, with a side of polenta. The grilled chicken didn't let us down. It was juicy and full of flavour! The pork belly was a little disappointing, it came out over cooked and tough. All in all, I'd recommend going for the grilled chicken, and pretty much anything that's chargrilled. The other tables seem to enjoy the meat skewers too. I'll check that out next time.

Amongst the abandoned shops of Petersham's New Canterbury Road, one little take-away joint thrives…read morewith customers from all over Sydney. Silvas Portugese Chicken and Petersham are all but synonymous terms, interchangeable with one another in every day conversation. And with good reason - Silvas is said to be the most authentic Portuguese food in Sydney, it's delicious and it's going cheap. Whilst I once laughed at friends who went out for a nice dinner and came back admitting that they'd ended up at Silvas again, I can now understand Silvas magnet affect. Silva's gives you their self-proclaimed 'healthiest chicken burger' with chips and a soft drink for $10.50, or the burger only for $5 (takeaway). Whilst the burger and chips is a little pricier to eat in ($12.50) you're more than welcome to buy your take away burger and eat in on the roadside tables outside the shop. The atmosphere might not be much, but if you've listened to anything I've said, then you'll know you won't be thinking about the atmosphere after your first bite. Silvas also sells a range of salads and rolls, and is particularly famous for its Portuguese BBQ chicken as well (whole chicken $13.50). And to Isty's, my previous Chicken Burger love, I still love you but you should know that there's someone else in the picture now. I know that you're not the same, so I'm trying not to make comparisons between the two of you, but Silvas Portuguese Chicken burgers have opened my eyes to the possibility that perhaps you're not the only one for me.

EVERYONE in Summer hill town has been talking about this place. From the outside you would not know that it was completely packed to the rafters with people. Outside you could hear crickets chirping. Inside was the sound of chatter and laughter and clanking dishes. You can't go out on the upstairs balcony after 8pm. Fair enough, it's right in a residential area. But you can hang out in the cool, lounge and table dotted bar and have a cocktail or a young henry's on tap. "The Smith street sour". Now, that's the street it's on. I loved that they've done that. Downstairs is separate from upstairs. You can get food up there too, but space is limited by the looks so I recommend just booking something. Brunch. . You can't book though, but try your luck. First up the dinner menu will dazzle you with temptations, but if you've never been before just get the "trust the chef" menu... just get it. It's 4 courses of the best things on the menu and that, my sweet sweet friends, includes the ur-example, the anti-matter that precedes the toast times, that which was made from the fragments of the universe. Duck liver paté. I fricking dug this so much I made the waiter bring us another, AFTER dessert and the complimentary cheese board he so very kindly threw in for us. Let me tell you I don't like mussels. But now I do. Only if they are served with pearl barley, tomato and trevally. Salted cod croquettes. . I think stuffed in zucchini flowers? Wut?? I like prawns in general, but these were gifts from the hand raised prawn nursery of the Mermaid queen. Dat Lamb shoulder tho... it was fall apart, meaty and gamey. The spinach, the pomegranate and dressing side just complimented and offset that taste perfectly. Dessert.. Well the time it came through we'd had several top notch wines and bubblies and DON'T EVEN FORGET calvados! Shut up! Let's admit this is a top notch restaurant. My friend and fellow foodie said if it was in Canberra it would have a hat. A lovely top hat, which gets tipped when fine ladies pass by its lovely renovated doors A nod to the building heritage, but a thoroughly modern interior, menu and outstanding service. Get here. Now.
