So, I played the course 2 times and enjoyed it, but don't think it is a top tier North Myrtle Beach course. There is just too much water, where your misses go, can cost you $40.00 in Pro V1x's if your not paying close attention. There are about 9 holes where water is on one side or the other on tee shots, yet I think there should put the water in front of some greens to really test the players ability and utilize the water for more than just left or right hazards. Green's fees will run you about $50 to $85 for the 141 slope 73.4 course rating, that will give the average player a very good test.

My first time playing this West Course. There are a total of…read morethree 18 hole courses all together. Visiting the area with the Golf Guys, a group of 24 guys for a 3 day long weekend for golf. The forecast was for rain because of Hurricane Isaias, category 2. We were fine through the first 9 and then the rains came and delayed us for about an hour. I was ready for a rain check but the rest of the guys wanted to finish up so we could get the points totals for the last round I was fortunate to card two Closest to Pin winners. This is an older course and it feels like it. There are no GPS on the carts. The cart path asphalt is broken and missing for yards in some areas. All the Staff was nice even though it was threat of rain, there were quite a few people playing and the Staff did a great job of managing it. I would recommend this course though. There is not a lot of water but quite a number of fairway bunkers and green side bunkers. It's pretty wide open and I especially liked the short Par 3's. First time I've ever seen a course where #18 is a Par 3 finishing hole.

Want to preface this review by mentioning that I am a stellar golfer who fired off an 81…read more I searched amazing golf courses in the area and this was cited as a top 100 course - there is CLEARLY another Myrtle Beach national. This is a subpar municipal AT BEST! The west course was heavily waterlogged, fairways were uncut the bunkers had no sand and the animals were feral. Giant black squirrels kept running around the tee box during my shot (I still hit the fairway). Last piece I want to mention is the price. I was led to believe that I could play the course for $5 (YOUTH ON THE COURSE) but they did not honor that and we wanted to add a cart fee to which they said they don't do here. Not sure where my $75 went but was hopefully donated to a better cause than this sorry establishment.

Earlier this year when I played True Blue the Cart Crew guy with the wet towels at the end of my…read moreround told me about this 'hidden gem'. There are 80 plus courses in the MB area now, no wonder they call it the 'golf capital of the world' and yeah they are A LOT of hidden gems. Can you blame me for being a shade skeptical? Not so fast my friend, this course was the final of the Golf Guys Pawley's Island golf extravangaza. There are many things to like about this course. The layout and design of the 18 holes, winding through the Low Country wetlands with Egrets, Osprey's, Herron's and GATORS will keep your head on a swivel as you negotiate creeks, ponds and marsh. The 100 plus year old moss covered Live Oaks are beautiful...and dangerous. Some strategically placed so they block out all but the most strategically placed approach shot from the fairway. The course was in exceptional condition, great tee boxes and greens. The fairways were a little sparse of grass along the edges which made it a challenge to 'pick' your ball out of the fairway. Just a few little nits: The EV Carts don't have GPS so grab your range finder. The only food option is INSIDE the club house and you can NOT call in an order from the course. On a VERY busy Sunday, they had only one lady scrambling all day. Even though they have an experienced Cart Crew at bag drop to help w/check-in, NOTHING about it is intuitive or easy, no signs to #1 or #10 tee, driving range or practice putting green. You HAVE to wait and get one of the CART crew to answer these questions because they DON'T offer any of this info at bag drop. They want to get your bags on a cart and get you into the ProShop to pay. When you finish your round, there are NO signs directing you to CART RETURN. It's all mixed in with the bag drop so yes it's a recipe for CHAOS. Once you've done it, yeah you learn but it could be so much BETTER. All in all, the nits can be forgiven after you play your round because it's such a beautiful course with a great design and so much history and wild life. After your first round, you'll be telling others about this 'Hidden Gem'.

Challenging "trouble" on several holes so recommend bringing some "water balls"! On the minus side...no restrooms on the back 9 (at least not easily visible as a 1st timer) which isn't an issue for guys (e.g. lots of trees) but I was very irritated about this and the issue we experienced with the maintenance guy compounded this irritation! He was cutting grass on several holes as we played and stayed in the way of my (the woman) shots running his very loud diesel engine while I addressed my ball and on 18 as we were putting he continued mowing around the green ! Bottom line ...do not recommend this course for ladies due to lack of restrooms and maintenance guy lack of courtesy for a woman!

This is a lovely old course we found challenging due to the Bermuda grass. Wedgefield is experiencing a downturn in their greens conditions currently due to the recent heavy rains in SC, but we are sure Christian and his team will get them back to pristine soon. One item to note is Wedgefield Plantation's stay and play offer.
