Husband wife golf trip to Myrtle. 1st time playing. On the plus side...Played as 2-some so place of play was fine. Course in good shape . Challenging "trouble" on several holes so recommend bringing some "water balls"! On the minus side...no restrooms on the back 9 (at least not easily visible as a 1st timer) which isn't an issue for guys (e.g. lots of trees) but I was very irritated about this and the issue we experienced with the maintenance guy compounded this irritation! He was cutting grass on several holes as we played and stayed in the way of my (the woman) shots running his very loud diesel engine while I addressed my ball and on 18 as we were putting he continued mowing around the green ! Bottom line ...do not recommend this course for ladies due to lack of restrooms and maintenance guy lack of courtesy for a woman! read more

Used to be a friendly course, challenging but for forgiving. But now they added long grass around many bunkers. Does nothing but aggravate and cause slow play. Impossible to find your ball and if you do impossible to advance it. Golf is difficult enough without this crap.!!! no water and ball washers, none on cart. read more

We played The Wizard on Day 2 of our boy's golf trip. The course was in good shape, although the greens were aerated about a week or two prior which made for a little rough putting. The 18th century Scottish midevil looking castle was an eyesore for my playing partner, I loved it. Once we got our time and cart, we were on the first tee in minutes with a twosome and a foursome right behind, we had to set a proper pace. Sure wish I had time to warm up and practice, the facilities were looking good and I like a 45 minute stretch, chip, putt, hammer a few long irons, cut a few mid irons, this did not happen. An open course, minus the fairway bunker on the par 5 first hole (1Hcp) that I drove my tee shot into the face of, made par anyway. Even if you spray your tee shots a bit, recovery is not impossible at all, its very possible to knock your second on from almost anywhere. But the short thick bushes you'll see from time to time must be avoided at all cost, there is no hope to play a shot from in them at all. The fairways were very soft due to rain and no roll was happening, in fact my tee shots were plugging and I lost a few perfect tee shots, hurting moral a bit. Many courses closed for the year due to the snow from last year and the tremendous damage the deep freeze did to the greens all the way down to Charleston. But The Wizard had bent grass greens, so the grass survived, poa ana, Bermuda and other tropical grasses died. I posted a 83 which could have been better, if only I had a caddy or a yardage book..... well, let's just say that I left a few more than a few shors out there.. We did a buddies trip with 8 people. Wizard was very accommodating for us. Course was in great shape. Decent pace of play. Highly recommend

Pretty good course, but very wet. Difficult if the wind is blowing. Club house is odd, and dated. Range balls are four bucks per bag but the range is not a long walk. Carts do not have GPS. Lunch was included in the price which is a good deal. Only con was mowing going on during play and mowers not getting out the way. read more

Excellent course with challenging length , landscape and kept in great shape. I had the chance to play the Wizard two weeks ago and loved it. The rainy weather suddenly cleared and so I booked a 3:10 tee time. Got there early and drove off the first tee at 3;00 and finished while the sun was setting, 6:05pm . Check out these photos I was able to catch during the round. Greens were in nice shape , as were the bunkers and tees . The clubhouse is cool and mimicked a castle. Played the Wizard on a recent trip to Myrtle Beach. Here are a few highlights...The course was in good shape, we only paid $39 on a Saturday morning (November Prices), the greens were tough, the rough (if you can call it that) was tougher and the course was a good challenge. The starter advised us to stay on or near the fairways because the rough/hay/heather that was beyond would swallow your ball, and he wasn't kidding. It only took one trip into that mess for me to learn my lesson and keep the ball on the short stuff. The Wizard lived up to the 125 slope from the back tees. It challenged you at times and then gave you opportunities to score during others. If you visit Myrtle in the off-season and aren't looking to pay $100 a round, stop into The Wizard. read more

I am a local and play here often. It is a pretty easy course so really good for the high hdcp golfer. I play golf at all the courses down here and play 4 times a week. It is a very good course. In the middle tier of courses, but in great condition and challenging, but will also give plenty of birdies opportunities. This is a great course if you do not want to pay a lot of money for the golf down here. I highly reccomend the course over many others that are a lot more money. The clubhouse is awesome too, for it is a castle theme. Very cool inside. read more

For the price, it's a great course with value hard to beat when I compare it to my local courses in NJ. The fairways and green were in great condition albeit a bit wet from the rain. However, in comparison to the courses in the region, I would agree with Art's review that the design was pretty boring and the course doesn't live up to MB's standard of golf courses. Nothing about the Wizard stands out and makes me want to go play it again except for the price. It was also a pretty easy course. Luckily for us, we can try out Man O'War and the Witch for the same price, which is what I would do before coming back to the Wizard. read more

The course itself was in good condition. The club house was not. It has a medieval theme - and that may have been when it was last remodeled. Needs a good cleaning and some new light bulbs. read more

Fungus and crabgrass greens. Cobwebs on some of the merchandise racks in the pro shop and on our carts. No sand or divot mix on the carts and bunkers on the course missing rakes. Speaking of bunkers, many were just mud with grass beginning to sprout. Lots of overwatering on the course to the point of sloppy mud in many places. No beverage cart and a vintage 1999 TV in the clubhouse. But on top of all that, no mention of punching the greens without applying top dressing when our group booked the tee times or when they were charging us $76 when we arrived. Will not return, will not recommend and will warn others to avoid. On the upside they are one new owner away from turning this into a reasonable track. read more

Course was in fair, barely, condition. Design was for the most part boring. Last 3 holes showed some imagination but not much. Club house and snack bar in need of a face lift. It was a little challenging, but not really. There was this type of rough all over the course where your ball would sink into and it was impossible to find. The greens were not well kept at all. There were leaves all over the greens, even when there when there weren't any trees around. Overall it was ok, I don't think I would recommend this course to a friend or family member, though. read more

Can't complain one bit, everything about this course was wonderful. Great people in the pro shop, seemed happy to have you at there course. For $50 and you also get a free lunch and 2 beers you can't beat it. Course was is very good shape also. Greens were a little slow but they need to water them often so they don't dry out with these hot summer days. But this place and man o war is a must play. read more

Great golf course, my whole family (7-14 people) plays this course twice a year and I play when I can. It's a great course because it is both challenging and forgiving, if you want to be aggressive you can make this a very tough course. This is my absolute favorite golf course! It's a challenge on every stroke, but boy is it fun! Yardage books are $2 in the pro shop. Go ahead and purchase one of those from the ultra friendly staff if you don't have a golf GPS because many of the creeks and bunkers are conveniently hidden and just in reach of your tee shot or second shot. Conditions are fantastic! No part of this course is less than a 5 star rating. Land it in the fairway at all costs as the rough is extremely difficult to deal with. The bent grass greens are the most true and consistent greens I have ever come across. If you have trouble putting on these greens you most likely need a putting lesson. If you are in the Myrtle Beach area this is a ***must play course***. Hole 18 will have you begging for mercy! I've birdied this hole on one occasion and it's the most rewarding and memorable golf hole of my life. read more

The course maintenance is poor Outside the fairways which are good there are tons of weed and crabgrass grass in the bermuda rough and so much so that it is obvious they are not taking care of the course. Had to walk thru 6 inch grass to get to every tee box, they don't even cut a walkway to get to the tee. No sand for divots. The course layout is good and challenging as there are mounds with pampas grass and greenery shrubs and you hit in there you do not find it. Compared to other courses in the area and within a mile they are in much better condition. Go elsewhere read more

We play The Wizard every year on our annual golf trip to Myrtle Beach (along with Mystical Golf's two other courses - The Witch and Man-O-War). What stands out immediately is how well-maintained the fairways and greens are. Country club quality on a public course. The sod-faced bunkers remind me of Scotland. Nice folks in the clubhouse. A good value at $40/round but not worth more money. Condition of the course was not great. Layout was solid but not great. Random patches of thick, ball eating grass provided a lot of frustration and wasted time searching for balls. Strongly recommend man o war instead. read more

Overall, a good course for the money. It's relatively forgiving off the tee, save for a couple of holes where the water is in play, and there's little to no rough to speak of. The course is not a push-over, but it's not a US Open course, either. When I played, the greens had just been aerated (not placing blame, unfortunately, aeration is just a necessary evil) so the greens were slow. One downside (or upside, depending on your perspective) is that the course seemed to have quite a few short par 4's (310-375 yards) leaving you with an awkward yardage on your 2nd shot. Unfortunately, they seemed like "pitch-n-putt" holes where you had to hit a lot of half-wedges into the green. Of course there was strategy involved, but just not my kind of strategy (I'd rather hit a mid iron than a 60% sand wedge, but that's just my bias). If you're in the MB area and looking for inexpensive golf, this is not a bad place to go. read more
