There are 80 plus courses in the MB area now, no wonder they call it the 'golf capital of the world' and yeah they are A LOT of hidden gems. Can you blame me for being a shade skeptical? Not so fast my friend, this course was the final of the Golf Guys Pawley's Island golf extravangaza. There are many things to like about this course. The layout and design of the 18 holes, winding through the Low Country wetlands with Egrets, Osprey's, Herron's and GATORS will keep your head on a swivel as you negotiate creeks, ponds and marsh. The 100 plus year old moss covered Live Oaks are beautiful...and dangerous. Some strategically placed so they block out all but the most strategically placed approach shot from the fairway. The course was in exceptional condition, great tee boxes and greens. The fairways were a little sparse of grass along the edges which made it a challenge to 'pick' your ball out of the fairway. Just a few little nits: The EV Carts don't have GPS so grab your range finder. The only food option is INSIDE the club house and you can NOT call in an order from the course. On a VERY busy Sunday, they had only one lady scrambling all day. Even though they have an experienced Cart Crew at bag drop to help w/check-in, NOTHING about it is intuitive or easy, no signs to #1 or #10 tee, driving range or practice putting green. You HAVE to wait and get one of the CART crew to answer these questions because they DON'T offer any of this info at bag drop. They want to get your bags on a cart and get you into the ProShop to pay. When you finish your round, there are NO signs directing you to CART RETURN. It's all mixed in with the bag drop so yes it's a recipe for CHAOS. Once you've done it, yeah you learn but it could be so much BETTER. All in all, the nits can be forgiven after you play your round because it's such a beautiful course with a great design and so much history and wild life. After your first round, you'll be telling others about this 'Hidden Gem'.

Although completely different courses, I'm urged…read moreto compare a few things to my experience at True Blue Golf Club, which I played two days prior. First off, I have to compliment the gentleman who took the reservation by phone several days back. His name is Ken or Kenneth. I couldn't have had a more pleasant and welcoming first impression. Upon check in, the staff was great in getting my group set up with rental clubs, which I believe were $60-65. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but i believe they were the Callaway Ai Smoke HL series. Good rentals, but if I'm being super picky, my driver still had some dried mud on it. The course has had a lot of rain lately, and it's not like I couldn't wipe it off, but I still feel like I should mention that. For comparison, True Blue had Titleist T200 rentals, which are targeted to a slightly better player (neither a positive or negative here, just depends on what you might prefer to play). The rentals at True Blue were noticeably cleaned and scrubbed. Dye Course rentals were a little muddier but again, the course had some rain and so we just made use of the handy club cleaner on the cart. They had closed the range to mow it before our midday tee time. It probably needed a mow as they hadn't been able to get to it with all the rain, understandably, but I couldn't help but be slightly disappointed not to get a chance to get a feel for the rental clubs. One of the guys tried to make light of it by saying something to the effect of, "you'll just have to take whatever swing you got straight to the course." Having looked forward to this round for months and hoping to play well, it just made it a slight bummer to start like that. I did find the practice putting green to be very similar to green feel on the course, which sometimes doesn't happen, so yay for that. The starter was great and very welcoming! I was happy with the course conditions. Again, they've had a ton of rain lately so it wasn't in pristine shape, but I didn't expect it to be. The greens were in good shape and rolled pretty well, and the fairways kept the ball sitting up nicely. There were some rough spots on the edges of fairways and tee boxes, but for the most part, it didn't ruin any of the experience. This was my first Dye course, and I really enjoyed the visuals of each hole. If you are hitting your targets, it feels rewarding to score. The course is fair, and it isn't as "tricked up" as True Blue. It can also be forgiving by moving up to one of the further tee boxes. My group played from three different tee boxes and it made the course manageable (for the most part) for all skill levels. We saw the beverage cart attendant after the 3rd or 4th hole. She was great! She did warn us that she wouldn't be coming around again, and advised us to stock up at the turn. One more bummer to note... the starter said there were player assistants roaming around with waters that we'd see every now and then that would make sure we were staying hydrated. Unfortunately we relied too much on that information. We never did see one. At the 12th hole, we met an employee who was playing and he said we should have seen one. He was nice enough to call up and inquire for us. Another gentleman rolled by about a hole later and said sorry but the player assistant had gone home, but we should see some water at hole 15. Maybe we missed it, but we failed to see anywhere to get water on the rest of the course. We were quite parched. Definitely come more prepared than we did or stock up more at the turn. The carts seemed a little older but had the goodies attached - GPS screen, club and ball cleaner, and little extra cubbies above your head to hold extra stuff. All in all we had a good time. I hate that the lack of range availability and the drinking water situation left a bad taste in my mouth, but if you go on a day where everything is working as it should be, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

We had a 10:00 tee time and we tee'd off on time. EERRRRRR - Hard brakes.... Second tee - 3 groups in front of us, Green, fairway, and tee box wow were 9 minutes behind on the second hole. So the round goes like this, every couple of holes we get a WARNING on the GPS that WE are behind and a Marshall may ask us to skip a hole. Skip a hole? This place is doubled loaded up. Not sure who is playing slow, but we can go nowhere. The Marshall must be off today, cause he/she never showed their face. OK there is value here, the price is good, the course is in nice shape. The layout is open and playable for us 20 handicappers...

We played Litchfield on the 2nd day of a 3 day tournament, and overall it was a decent experience,…read morethough definitely there was lots of room for improvement around the course. The layout features a lot of doglegs and water, and a lot of it is sneaky. You'll hit a fine shot, only to drive up and realize there is water in a spot you didn't foresee, and suddenly you've lost yet another golf ball. This isn't a course for those who like to grip it and rip it, the fairways are tight and with all the dogleg holes you'll be playing a lot of irons, hybrids, and fairway woods off the tee. Playing conditions for us in early June served up tended fairways and rough, OK tee boxes, but the greens were in dire condition on several holes. Having to putt over bare spots did not suit the tournament environment well. Also, most of the bunkers were more like waste areas than actual sand traps, resulting in some frustration. The staff were great, and elevated this experience from a 3 to a 4 for me. Rangers did not bother us, the beverage cart came around several times, and the grille staff at the turn were awesome as well as speedy. We paid a group rate, but looking at their 18 hole cost for this time of year in Myrtle seems pretty fair. The term "country club" here is pretty loose, if I had paid that rate and had this experience, it would still be a 4, 3 for course conditions, 5 for the staff.

Our group was the first to tee off at 7:30 and we made the turn right at 2 hours. As we arrived at…read morethe 10th tee box, we found two groups waiting to tee off. I called the clubhouse to inquire about the situation and was told that groups were going off both the 1st and 10th tee and those two groups were the last off the 10th in the morning group. I explained that I had played a lot of golf and never had this happen. Suddenly our 4 hour round turned into a 4:45 hour round. A little later, a marshall met us in the 10th fairway and asked about our issue, he seemed a little angry and explained that the group in front of us was the 9:38 tee time from the 10th tee. TO ME THAT SEEMS A LITTLE LATE AS GROUPS TEEING OFF ON THE 1ST TEE SHOULD BE COMING THROUGH ABOUT 9:30. As this seems to be the policy, I will not be back. A few notes about the course: This is a very tight course with woods or houses on either side of the fairway. The mounds rolling off the fairway were very hard and a ball not hitting the fairway was frequently lost. The greens were in good shape and the course was beautiful. The clubhouse and facilities are very nice and seemed average for Myrtle Beach.

Love all the flags as each hole. Feels like a European establishment. Nice wide fairways.read more
