Since the time of my original Yelp about the Pine Lakes County Club aka "The Granddaddy", I've visited down to the Myrtle Beach area about five more times and during these visits have gotten to enjoy several more dining experiences over at the establishment. There hasn't been a bad meal yet, and the service is quite friendly and fast. They set up a large buffet a few times a week and each is themed. So far I've done the Taco night, Stuffed Pork Chop night, Italian night and so on and everything has been fantastic and for a very good price. This is important considering just how much the cost of food has gotten in this current economy. Now I've never been a pork chop person but I do indeed love their stuffed pork chops. That should tell you something. Mary Bell is the woman in charge of the team preparing the dinner service and she's awesome. I've found Mary checking in with patrons in the dining area as well as being one of the folks helping people get their eats on the buffet line with a smile and a quick chat. My folks are there so much that they now seem like old friends. It's a pleasant atmosphere for sure and you will not leave hungry. I'm not lying when I say that I look forward to my next visit to the folks so we can all enjoy the Pine Lakes together again as a family. I'm talking about the dining and not the golfing. I leave that part to my Pop. Things I've learned as well over the time I've been here is that you can get a gift certificate of any denomination so if you have friends or relatives in the region and they show interest in the place you've just crossed one more item off your holiday list. Granddaddy of courses and not impressed. I wrote to management and never heard back. I was never even acknowledged. The service that I received while here was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Towards the end, the cart service staff rushed us out - and did not give us any time to gather our personal belongings. I rented two bags of clubs, and immediately I was accused of losing or stealing the covers (when rented they didn't all have covers on). The staff even handed the covers to me to put them onto the equipment. I would have done this myself, no problem if I had some breathing room. They had countless carts available. Staff also rushed our game when we were already ahead. The only plus here are the complimentary mimosas. But really, when you are playing why will you be drinking away anyway? read more

Played a week and a half after they reopened in mid-July. New greens and tee boxes were there. Greens were slow and sandy, which is expected as they were still coming in. The scorecards were not accurate at all as they have moved some tee boxes so use an app or range finder for accurate distances. Overall great shape after a ton of rain that week. Not extremely challenging save for a few holes, but fun track. A little pricey at $87 for early morning round, but not much available after a couple of washouts earlier in the week. Staff friendly. Wasn't my first time and won't be my last, but nothing really sticks out. read more

I've played here several times on a buddies trip. It's a bit odd how they set you up but I get it. We were the first group off and played in 1 hour 45 minutes which isn't great cause they send groups off the front and back so we waited for 30 minutes or so at the turn. Enjoyable course to play. Plenty challenging but forgiving for those not so straight hitters. Tee boxes, fairways were in great shape. Bunkers were excellent. Greens were playable but in pretty bad shape with a a lot of bare spots. Pace of play was good at about 4 hrs. This would be 4 stars if not for the condition of the greens. read more

COURSE Fairways are wide and in decent shape but they are way too soft! There is no bounce or roll. Greens are large and in good shape. They are mostly flat except the edges. Overall, it's an average course. It's overpriced but it is a country club style course so you have a guy who carries your clubs to the cart, another guy who loads your clubs into the cart and a guy who wipes them down when you finish. Be ready to tip all three. As you've read in other reviews, you can't take your cart to drop your clubs at your car in the parking lot. read more

We Played the last week of March 2021. What a shame to see a golf course with such a storied past to be in such disastrous condition. Unfortunately, for us we were unaware of the poor conditions because they have disabled reviews being placed on any of their social media pages. Only the 8th and 9th green had what resembled grass. The other greens were not puttable. For having such poor conditions I would have expected the staff to be more friendly. The staff in the Pro shop were pushy and made for an uncomfortable experience. This was our first time in Myrtle Beach so we were looking forward to playing the Granddaddy but retrospectively we wish we had played another course. Hopefully, in the future they will be able to repair their greens. read more

LEAST favorite course in MB (and I've played most of them over last 35 years). Although course is in good shape, staff is surly and very unprofessional. Pro shop staff was not adequately trained, starter was gruff and unfriendly, beverage girl was surly, absolutely NO water on course (95 degree day), and carts cannot be taken to parking lot for some asinine reason. Expected a better experience for the premium price charged. Will not be returning. read more

This course is always in great shape. The greens were rolling as good as they can get. The beer cart girl was super friendly and nearby frequently. The day was hot and she was a welcomed sight! The clubhouse staff is awesome as well, especially the restaurant ladies. They were all funny and talkative and made kick ass drinks. A must play in Myrtle!!! My experience here has actually nothing to do with golf. I got married here in Myrtle Beach at the Wedding Chapel by the Sea. Because of a double booking we got are reception booked here. The day before the wedding we stop in to see what the country club looked like. We sent pictures online and it looked ok. In person it look so much better. It had a old elegant style inside. The wall were very well decorated and had some beautiful pictures on it. The whole room beautiful, even the bathroom was the best I even seen. Everything was also super clean. The outside was beautiful too. We loved the fountain outside. The wedding came and we got to Pine Lakes. We got lots of beautiful pictures. The DJ there was very good and got everyone dancing. The cake was beautiful. The food that was catered was very good. They even had a baked potato bar, best ever. Other then not having a open bar we had no complaint about the country club. The most beautiful reception I ever seen and me and my wife couldn't have been happier. read more

This historic course, the Granddaddy, has undergone a change in ownership in the last decade, and several changes in the course and clubhouse. They still have guys who unload, load, and wash your clubs for you at the bag drop, only they wear knickers now, and not kilts, like they did back in the day. The course is park-like, lined with tall pines, and from an earlier era (short), but beautiful and fun to play. They provide complimentary low country chowder in the clubhouse, complete with sherry drizzle and oyster crackers. Definitely add this to your Myrtle Beach golf trip. read more

Didn't play golf -- raining like crazy. Had lunch instead. Although the club house dates from 1927 it has been added on to, up-dated, etc which means the really great rooms are dedicated to parties, meetings, weddings, and the restaurant is pretty much country club. I had the tuna salad -- done perfectly. I plan to go back and have it again before heading home. My wife had the soup and sandwich special -- just ok. Service was friendly and timely. Try it if you're golfing. Go there if you want a great tuna salad. read more

Great old course. New grass on greens and fairways is fantastic. Great greeters pro shop and lunch food. Love this golf course.
