Lori's definition of collage is beyond a normal person's realm of understanding. It can involve painting, decoupage, frames, yarn, and I always include my favorite item--glitter glue. She has such a variety of materials to use, and is more than willing to help with anything a student is working on. I became inspired from a piece of art on her wall and she guided me through making a similar piece that I ended up loving! Her studio is such a fun place to play and the collaging sessions are very calming. She is also such a funny person and tells some great stories. The one rule is: You can interrupt her speaking if you have an art question. This studio really is a safe haven from the outside world, and it has become a routine activity. The studio is close to the Alameda so you can also do some shopping or eating after the productive collaging sessions.

At pickup, I even got to "buy" one of my sons sweet art pieces from his little $5 sale. So cute! The only challenge for us is logistics: the drive is about 35 minutes with traffic, and Valley Fair parking can be difficult, making for a long commute day. Because of that, we will probably save it for school holidays rather than use it regularly. But it is absolutely a high-quality camp, and I would love to return for another art class in the future.

We had the most delightfully incredible time making little lands together. She's sweetly said that she wanted to make Mal from The Descendants, and the staff helped her with this. I prefer to buy experiences as opposed to stuff for gifts, so I bought my son an Intro to Blacksmithing class because I have known about his interest in metallurgy for some time. The Good: * Private parking lot, as well as street parking. Be sure to check signage, though, as some of the spaces are reserved for neighboring businesses. * More than just blacksmithing, they also have axe throwing and a slew of art classes, as well as stained glass making, welding, screen printing, painting, and more. Check out their website for details. * Easy to sign up, as all you need is a credit card and an Eventbrite account. * They provide everything you need to do what you need to do. The only thing you need to bring is your brain and possibly a bottle of water, but the latter is optional as they do have a water cooler with cups one can access. * The teacher of the class was a gentleman named Wyatt, who I believe owns this space with his wife, and he is a phenomenal teacher. He explains things very clearly, is patient, and is a master blacksmith to boot. He was also kind enough to let me snap a few photos while I hung out. The Meh: * There is a chance the class might get rescheduled if there is not much interest in the date you signed up for, so try to be flexible. * If you sign up your child and they are less than 18 years old (at least for the blacksmithing class), you will need to stick around and keep an eye on them. The Ugly: * This is not necessarily a bad thing, but be prepared to stay for longer than the class time indicates. It is advertised as a 3-hour course, but I believe all told we were there nearly 5 hours because they want you to finish your project. So bring a snack and get it done! Conclusion: Fantastic place for teambuilding, giving as a gift, or expanding your own horizons. Buy experiences and not things!

What a cool environment! Khaled was a very energetic, kind, and supportive instructor. I'm honestly not that pleased with the quality of my work and would love to try again now that I have more experience. I'd come back for an intermediate class, but their website doesn't show any.

Initially I was very excited to take a 4 week pottery class because it was a hobby I have been…read morethinking about trying for a long time but my experience here has honestly dampened my interest in pursuing pottery further I'm unsure if it's typical protocol but essentially the instructor would do one tutorial and then let the class figure it out from there. He would then focus on his own pieces instead of checking on how to students were doing. The classes rarely started on time because the instructor would be eating their late lunch and would consistently forget what he taught us the previous week. Because there was poor time management, we would be working on pieces and then 15 minutes before the class would end, we would be told we have to start cleaning up so everyone would rush to finish what they were doing Because there was barely any hands on instruction, I was constantly watching online videos from other pottery instructors before class to teach myself the tips I was missing from my own instructor The studio also lacked a proper storage system, so every single week we came in, our pieces were in a different place which made it extremely difficult to find our work -- I lost a few pieces because of this The overall experience has been so disappointing and a waste of time and money - if you are serious about making pottery a hobby, I would suggest looking for a different pottery studio

The instructor is an artist called Nancy, who also worked for many years in the school district as art teacher. She is very nice and can provide advice and helpful tips. The other people at the workshop were also very nice, some of them had been there before. I felt quite welcome and among friends. The workshop also provided a few snacks such as crackers, ham cheese, brownies, soft drinks. The workshop for the Christmas tree was split in two days because on the first day you have to glue the mosaic to the tree and on the second day, you apply the grout. So make sure that you have allocated enough time in your calendar for both. it was quite a relaxing workshop and I found that I actually slept much better overnight, which was an added benefit! I really enjoyed myself and hope to check out their calendar for other workshops to take. The studio is at the back of the instructors house and it is also open during weekends over certain hours for open studio. I noticed that some of the people working on their own pieces during open studio were doing some phenomenal pieces. There is a huge assortment of mosaic that you can use in your creations. Highly recommended.

It was my first time attending this event at The Alameda and I totally recommend to take your time to talk to the artists. All of them are super approachable, passionate about their jobs and very didactic teaching or explaining their skills and talents. Park on the street as parking is very limited and also it is very pleasant to walk that beautiful alameda anyways. No cover to enter, and in most cases you can buy art on the spot if you would like it, or even give your email address for future classes by some of the artists.
