She encourages students to develop and explore their own creative concepts and even guides them toward applying for art competitions, which is such a confidence boost. Can upgrade to wine and bubbly for a fee. There were roaming models (Sunny - a Tita from the Philippines - was in our area) showcasing outfits from a local Los Gatos boutique. Raffle for a 10 person dinner onsite. Gift shop with crafts to buy. Have more time can explore grounds. Was encouraged to take home the floral centerpieces which had plastic floral bags to aid with transport. If don't have a generous friend to treat you to luncheon, can purchase tix for $75. My younger brother and I went to this school for four years, when he was in kindergarten to fourth…read moregrade, and I was in fourth to seventh. Looking back on it, outside of the progress you'd expect from four years of practice, I don't think I improved that much. They teach you to copy from a reference pretty well, which would be alright if you're going for hyperrealism, but that wasn't exactly what I was aiming for, back then or now. When I look at my drawings now, I realize that I was able to get details right, but the proportions were always slightly off. Also, everyone's drawings look similar, even the little kids', which are usually more creative. Certain teachers are nice and helpful, but some of the teachers are very cold, almost scary, including Meiying herself. I'd suggest going to a different school instead.

In addition, the art work that Ms. Zhang has done shows the western artist the fine talent of a Chinese artist. If anyone should visit her studio, ask to see the painting of a tiger that she and her husband finished. It is astounding.
