Our first year was great largely because of a team member who was incredibly responsive, helpful, and attentive whenever we had questions or concerns. Unfortunately, she left shortly after signing our lease and that level of service didn't last.
The property itself is aging and, in our experience, was not well maintained. During our second and final year, trash would pile up, and flies became a persistent problem. It was especially frustrating to see that there appeared to be only one person responsible for taking out the trash. The poor guy would leave on vacation and return to find piles of trash waiting for him all over again.
Maintenance requests also weren't addressed in a timely manner. On top of that, the front office was difficult to reach by phone, with calls frequently going unanswered. Even getting a response to emails was a challenge. Communication and follow-through were major issues. We were repeatedly told someone would get back to us with a resolution, but more often than not, we never heard back.
Our experience with property management was particularly disappointing. We expected better communication, accountability, and follow-through from the people responsible for managing the community. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.
The final frustration was getting our security deposit back. We moved out in July but didn't receive our deposit until this past week. After struggling to get a clear answer, I ultimately had to search Google to find the regional manager's contact information myself. Thankfully, she was responsive and quick to help. However, we were left wondering whether our deposit would have been returned without our intervention. We shouldn't have had to track down the regional manager ourselves just to get answers and ensure we received our own money back. Residents shouldn't have to go to those lengths simply to get their security deposit returned after moving out.
It's unfortunate because Bella Vista started off as a place we were genuinely excited to live. Being close to Levi's Stadium was a huge selling point for us as 49ers fans, and we initially had a positive impression of the community. However, the decline in property upkeep, overflowing trash, persistent flies, delayed maintenance, unanswered phone calls and emails, lack of follow-through, and difficulties getting our security deposit back ultimately overshadowed that experience.
For the price of rent, it definitely was not worth it. When you're paying a premium to live in an apartment community, you expect a well-maintained property, responsive management, timely maintenance, and basic accountability.
My recommendation: Look beyond the location and initial leasing experience before signing a lease. While being near Levi's Stadium was a huge plus for us, the condition of the property and the quality of management matter just as much. Ask current residents about maintenance, cleanliness, communication, and move-out procedures before committing. Based on our experience during the totality of our time here, I would not recommend Bella Vista Apartments.
