I was referred to Erica by my best friend who raved about her stylist for months. I'm so glad I finally found the stylist perfect for me. I've been getting my hair done by Erica for almost 3 years now. She always gives her honest opinion and truly cares about the health of your hair. I have dark, long, thick hair and went blonde several times. She always warned me that the color may not appear as light as I'd hope since I have black hair, but she managed to lift my hair to the perfect shade! My hair is a total pain to cut and color because I have so much hair, but Erica takes her time to make my hair look fabulous. She also has great advice on hair care, products, and styling. I went to Erica for the first time (approximately two months ago) and was cutting my hair really short - something I was quite nervous about. She expressed surprise and joy at my trusting her to do a good job. I explained I based it on all her good reviews. Those reviews are well-earned. Erica knows hair. I have curly hair and most people underestimate how my hair will react. She, luckily, also has curly hair and was able to make recommendations after listening to what I wanted and seeing the pictures I had brought with me. I appreciated that she gave me constructive advice without deviating from what I asked. At the end of the haircut, she even gave me some pointers on how I could style my hair. My two best friends referred me to Erica 3 years ago and I have yet to find anyone who can do what Erica does. I had major trust issues with hair stylists before seeing Erica because stylists can often get a mind of their own and/or get scissor happy, which in my case, was both. Erica is the ONLY stylist I can go to and tell her a general basis of what I want - and I tell her to do whatever - and it always comes out perfect. I leave the salon feeling like a new woman every time. For all my lady friends who have beautiful long locks and want to KEEP them that way, no one loves long hair more than Erica. She will maintain the length of your hair while focusing on the health of your mane and surely make you feel fabulous. HIGHLY recommended. I've been going to see Erica for about a year, maybe more. She's probably one of the best stylists I've ever been to, and reasonably priced so that I can spend a little extra on tip. I typically get a partial highlight and occasional lowlights which are carefully woven in to look beautiful and natural. She also achieves the ashy color I prefer, whereas other salons have always given me an unflattering brassy caramel that I have to tone on my own later. Highly recommend Erica for highlights and cut! My only complaint is that the boutique is not truly hidden from everyone else so that I can go see her any time I want! Always leave here feeling like a million bucks. I saw Erica a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get the chance to write sooner. I was the last client of the day but she made me feel like I was her first of the day. She listened to what I had to say and she took the time to explain how my hair is and what I should do to take care of it. I learned so much that night. She is amazing gave me a great haircut and recommended some great shampoo and conditioner that works great for my hair. My hair is a big frizz but since I have seen her I have been able to straighten my hair with the right product. Normally that is something I used to do on special occasions. I really debated on posting this review. I believe people are quick to post a good service but less inclined to post about bad service. I myself had a bad experience with Erica and this review is about that service and is my sole opinion and experience. I initially scheduled a haircut with Erica so I could also fit in a color consultation and she would have the chance to see and feel my hair type. I was very happy with the cut she gave me and I had the chance to tell her what I was looking for in color and she explained to me what she would do in order to achieve this and quoted me a price. I scheduled for Balayage and root color shortly after for several weeks out. Erica only takes cash or checks so I made sure to bring cash with me a thank goodness I brought extra. She was running late for my appointment which put my scheduled appointment behind and made me feel very rushed and almost as if she had major attitude in the fact that my hair is very thick. I later consulted with another stylist about my results and she confirmed that most likely she was rushed and did not leave the bleach on long enough. Without this review becoming very long I left $250 dollars later with color that you can barley tell, in fact my family never even noticed that I had anything done not to mention it faded to a very orangey color. I DID contact Erica to let her know that I was not happy and she made NO effort to correct this. I also forgot to mention the cost! Erica quoted me $130 for balayage and $60 for the root color. I brought cash including a 20% gratuity tip. In the middle of service she kept tacking on charges $35 DOLLARS IN ADDITIONAL CHARGES! luckily I brought extra cash but was shocked at this practice since she quoted me this amount and it is also listed on her Vagaro page. read more

Well I arrived on time but she took 15 minutes to attend me. Probably because I was new and she wanted to have a full hour and not just cut. However, I thought from all the reviews that she would be professional sufficiently to least dry my hair. I brought a picture but that is not how my hair ended. Unfortunately, since I have had this haircut many times. Well all in all I don't think I will be back and more so she asked me for a tip. I gave Erica $50.00 (the cut $35) and she wanted to keep it. I said I would like change then she asked me how much change. I felt I had to give her $5.00. Interesting since this is her business. I don't think I can ask my clients to give me a tip. read more

I have natural curly thick hair. I have been to many, many different hair stylists in the area & nobody compares to Erica. I am extremely particular when it comes to cutting my hair. She is the only one that cuts it without it looking so stacked & boxey (if thats a word) & perfectly even on both sides. Her magic with color is incredible. She is truly an artist. I am so picky. Did I say that already? No really -- I am. Her vision is always spot on & always makes me feel so wonderful when I leave. I was very surprised that my first (and definitely last) appointment with Erica was such a big failure, given all her glowing reviews online (which was why I went to her in the first place). I have never in my life had a stylist argue so vehemently against my desired cut. I asked for a cut that is unorthodox but that has worked for me for many years now, so I know what I like and what I need in a cut. But she clearly had little respect for what I had to say and refused to cut my hair that way even though 1) I told her exactly what I wanted, and 2) it's her job to do what I want regardless of her own opinions, because I'm a paying client, and 3) if she was so staunchly opposed to my desired cut, she should have simply canceled my appointment then and there instead of making me pay for a cut where she did not do what I asked (which is unethical), and 4) if she did what I wanted and then I complained about it, she could just say, "well, that's what you asked for!"--and she would be absolutely right! I have thick and extremely coarse hair. Most stylists rarely cut hair like that so they end up not cutting boldly enough from the start, and I have to basically coach them through the cut, especially around the face. The good stylists listen to me and respect that as their client I know my hair better than they do (because I have lived with that hair all my life and know what works as a low-maintenance cut!) and deserve to have what I want. I lived in SW VA for four years and had a stylist who at first was unsure about the cut I wanted, but listened carefully to me, did what I wanted, produced beautiful results, and so earned a faithful client for years. My best haircut ever was in Washington, DC, at the Aveda training salon where a young student stylist did a brilliant job on my hair, perhaps because she was a student and had the humility to understand that she did not know everything and that my DECADES of experience dealing with my own hair mattered during the appointment. I gave her a huge tip as a reward for listening so carefully and trusting that I knew what I wanted. I would have tipped Erica if she had given me the professional courtesy I deserved, but she did not, and so I didn't (this was the first time I didn't tip a stylist). At the end of the appointment she did not even offer to revise the cut, even though she knew I was unhappy with it; she just asked sweetly for her payment. Everybody has bad days, and clearly this was one of Erica's (another thing: she took me as a client when she didn't have enough time to give my a proper blow-dry, even though the confirmation email clearly said "Women's Hair Cut & Blow-Dry"; she told me I would have to sit under a dryer while she worked on her next appointment, which was a coloring.) But she did not bother to make it right, either by reducing the amount I owed her or by offering a re-cut. I wonder how she will respond to this review. She can get defensive and/or offensive--or she can have the professional grace enough to admit that she was wrong, learn from this situation--especially about how to make it right if the client is dissatisfied after she stubbornly refuses to do what the client wants--and never let it happen to anyone else. read more

Best hair stylist I've ever had, hands down. I booked an appointment online a couple weeks ago and went in. Erica explained to me how if I were to get red highlights, they would quickly fade to pink. She was very knowledgable and told me to come back in a couple weeks so I can think about what color highlights I want, and so she can have enough time to do everything I asked for. I booked an appointment for a couple weeks later and went in. She listened very carefully to what I wanted and even made suggestions of her own. The process was quicker than I thought, and by the end of my appointment, my hair looked AMAZING. I never thought I could have it look that way in a million years. I settled on a lighter shade of caramel highlights, layers, cut off a few inches, and also got side bangs. Best haircut/color I've gotten. Definitely recommend Erica to anyone who wants to leave the salon looking absolutely stunning. read more
