I work everyday immensely & lucky if I get a day off work so im dying of thirst and famished & rush to Hidalgos for my lunch break & this kid, male worker at the counter, has the worse customer service attitude. I wait too long to be seated, while he decided to finish a conversation with coworker, Rolls his eyes when he had to acknowledge me, had me second guessing having my lunch at this location. Thankfully, another coworker nicely greeted me and seated me. Service became terrible after that when I received chips and salsa Overheard the comments about me from workers. I didn't appreciate the attitude. The other Hidalgo spots, I do not prefer. Sad Hidalgos customer service is terrible . Came here for breakfast and ordered huevos con chorizo and horchata. The plate came with some refried beans, hash brown, and some tortilla. The food tastes decent. The horchata was made from powder. I ordered the deluxe meal with taco, cheese and beef enchiladas, and a Chile Relleno. The flavor was great the temperature was good. I especially like the seasoning of the ground beef, it is probably simple but effective few spices maybe onion and salt and pepper. Every bite was full of the flavor of Mexican food just like I remember from my trips below the border. They have beer available, I saw pictures of a Margarita but didn't see them on the menu. It's not, stop in your tracks and go somewhere else. 1) i asked for a side of sour cream expecting quite a bit for my chips and received a sample tube. 2) They acted surprised when we didn't eat the chili con queso, it looks like Frito-Lay brand cheese sauce. 3) Hormel chili sauce was what topped the enchilada.. is anything at this place actually made from scratch or all from jars? 4) Also the sweet tea is sitting in cups waiting to be ordered just so they can add ice. Wanted a hot sit-down breakfast before hitting the road on motorcycles on a 225 mile ride home. Hidalgo's West was recommended by the hotel housekeeping staff and it did not disappoint. The place was clean, COVID 19 rules were all in play and everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The service was excellent, the food was great and price was very reasonable. Really good mexican food in an atmosphere that is down to earth. We were greeted quickly and seated at a booth. The chips and salsa arrived quickly and our drinks did too. Their salsa is really good, and the chips are nice and thin and have a great flavor. The waitress was very nice. It was hard to choose between the steak tamipico and the steak ranchero, so I got one and my wife got the other. My ranchero was really good, and the enchilada had a great chili gravy. I added a crispy taco to my steak ranchero and it was really good. The steak tampico looked really good, and my wife said that she loved it. Hers came with a taco and she also enjoyed it. I saw some great reviews about this place. Well, I went there with great expectations and left frustrated! Definitely far to be authentic Mexican food. Not even close to Americanized Mexican food. The food didn't taste bad, but the tacos only had two choices (beef and chicken), no explanation of other meats anywhere. The server was amazing and very sweet! Our favorite of the Hidalgo's restaurants. I've only eaten breakfast there, but yum! The servings are very large and they generally pay attention to our very specific requests. I love the Migas con Mexicana with cheese, and their beans with cheese are delicious. The decor is a little odd but fun (gotta love that glittery wall!) and it is never too crowded. I like their salsa -- spicy with no weird chipotle or cumin accents to interfere. read more

This is a restaurant my family who live in town frequent often. The prices are cheap and the portions are large so I can see why. The building and decor inside are a bit old and dated, but the people are friendly and the food gets out fast. The chips are warm and the salsa has a nice punch to it. My family also likes to make what they call a 'white sauce' by asking for ranch dressing and mixing a little salsa into it, try it! The menu is vast and being indecisive it took me a while to figure out what I wanted. I like the variety here of having numerous combo plates so you can get a little taste of everything. Their quesadillas especially look good and come served with rice and beans. I got the Copitas for myself which reminded me a lot of the Mexi dip n chips I used to get all the time from Taco Bueno. They are 4 little bowls made out of tortillas and each one holds something different. Guacamole, refried beans with cheese, beef with cheese, and chicken with cheese. All served with a side of rice for under $7. They have some American dishes here too. My family has ordered their burger in the past and said it was great. Nice kids menu, and even a breakfast menu I believe. Definitely a small town place. I loved seeing the servers interact with the regulars. They know how to make everyone feel welcome and they are quick to turn a table so I can't imagine the wait here is ever that long. I tried to go to the monster Tex Mex place across the street, but the HUGE crowd and the crazy sign about repenting turned me off. I'm so glad I found this place! What's not to love?! We came in to have some breakfast and I didn't really think to look at the prices since my kids just wanted some pancakes so I guess I should take the blame on that one . A stack of pancakes is nearly $7 and your drink is $3 I have 4 small children so it was a surprise . The pancakes smelled bad like if they were made days before and just heated in the microwave. My wife and I had the Menudo after living here for over a year I declare this one to be the worst in my opinion to start it wasn't even done. Also the coffee was cold . Granted this is a year late but better late than never. I've always used to eat at the S. Bryant location while I was in San Angelo for a year and it was pretty good. However my friends and I decided to try the Sherwood location and we were in for a nice surprise. One of my friends found a cooked roach in his dish when we were all finishing up our lunch! The server had to be convinced to not charge him and the rest of us ended up probably sharing the marinated roach essence in our food as well. He was the only one to get his meal credited! Fortunately, no one got sick but I guess a place like this in San Angelo doesn't necessarily have the same reservations about bugs in their food as some of us big city folk do. This restaurant was suggested by my brother and sister-in-law who are locals. Our waiter, Raul started us with a basket of warm tortilla chips and a very nice salsa which had a nice kick. I had the chile relleno platter ($6.99) which included Spanish rice and refried beans. The 2 poblano peppers were stuffed with flavored ground beef and coated in egg batter. They were very tasty and filling. The beans and rice were typical Tex-Mex fare and ok. My brother and his wife had fajitas for 2 ($13.99) which were served on a sizzling platter and served with all the trimmings.
