I've been using Hick Dental. Group since I moved to Prescott 27 yrs ago and they provide excellent quality care. I think you may be able to find a less expensive dentist but you won't find better work done by the dentists there. Being able to trust in that quality is worth a little extra with someone on your mouth. Also, enjoy getting cleanings by the hygienist there and the scheduling and office staff are nice. read more

I went to Dr. Paul Hicks for a dental guard. He charged me $600. which I believe is much higher than other dentists in the area. They are also still recommending Floride, which I am sure is not healthy. I also got the impression he doesn't care for people from California. I had one of the most thorough dental exams I have ever had at Hicks Dental, over 30 minutes of detailed exam of my gums, teeth and mouth. My two cleanings were also very thorough, yet gentle and the staff were all very pleasant, plus the office is beautiful and puts you at ease with it's feeling of a western hacienda complete with a fireplace in the waiting area and plenty of magazines. read more

Over 40 X-rays ? On my 1st visit the technician was obviously not experienced and after her fumbling and cutting my mouth I had to put a stop to it. The resectionist greeted with "are you sure you have an appointment?". Even after they called to remind me. The hygienist up sells you with treatments that you have no idea of their effectiveness, and they can't explain. After the exam you are told to see a specialist that they do not name nor explain what procedure is needed. They criticized the work of my last dentist that took care of me for 20 years. Read the review from Meline K. "Charging more than insurance will pay?" The patient appears to be uneducated here. Insurance companies have their own set fee schedule and don't pay more than what the schedule allows. She may have a point, however, as to not being accepted for treatment without what is felt as being "necessary" radiographs. If her mouth is a chronic wreck, Dr. Hicks could be sued for negligence by allowing the patient to impede diagnosis. On the flip side, if her dental history and home care is spotless and history of tooth decay shows that preventive visits that are too frequent need not be so rigidly followed, I feel her request for no radiographs so as to reduce the exposure to X-ray radiation might be reasonable. Additionally, not everyone has a buildup of calculus that requires that prophylaxis ("cleanings") be performed without fail on a certain set schedule. Regarding dental insurance, my experience was that if our office charged more to the patient than what was listed on our contract with the dental insurance company (in my case, it was Delta of California), and the fee charged differed between the patient's chart and what was reported to the insurance company, I would have been dropped from the insurance company's list of "providers." We had to keep all patient charts readily available for in-office inspection by a Delta inspector, with no advance notice. My practice was top-heavy with Delta patients, so it would have been suicide to be dishonest on what was actually charged. I am surprised that Ms. K's assessment of Dr. Hicks' fees is so hypercritical, and I question her apparently completing a survey of all the dental offices in Prescott to gain access to their fees for comparison. It should be noted that a patient's particular schedule of radiographs depends on his/her dental history, nutrition/diet, oral hygiene practiced at home, and history of other problems such as heart disease or diabetes, etc., that might play a part in determining the optimum frequency and level of preventive care. Remember that successful health outcomes involve a good partnership between patient and dental or medical practitioner. If a patient chronically fails to uphold his/her end of the partnership, the practitioner has every right to dismiss that patient from the practice. Part of a proper dental examination should also include a bi-manual, bi-digital, bilateral palpation plus visual checks inside the mouth and outside structures such as eyes, nose, throat and surrounding structures for lesions and/or swelling. Dr. Hicks' so-called refusal to accept Ms. K's refusal of radiographs might have been well within the rules dictated by the Standard of Care, considering that without completing a periodic dental exam that includes adequate radiographs, disease processes that involve tooth decay or periodontal disease might well be missed, pointing to the possibility of legal action for failure to diagnose. My advice to anyone who questions diagnosis and/or treatment, including treatment alternatives, plus any possible risks to treatment (or lack thereof): Get a second or even a third opinion, and do not proceed with any treatment until you have had a chance to review a written INFORMED CONSENT that answers all your questions to your satisfaction. Also remember to be given your signed copy of the CONSENT form for your records. I am retired, after having enjoyed thirty-five years of private dental practice in California, and was the Dental Director at two hospital dental clinics, and also instructor at two California dental schools (U.C. School of Dentistry and U. of Pacific School of Dentistry) in San Francisco. BTW, I am not a patient of Dr. Hicks, and have never met him or his office staff, nor have I met Meline K; as such I have tried to keep my comment unbiased. read more

My husband and I found Hicks Dental Group two years ago after our last dentist retired and it has been a wonderful experience. The building is clean and up to date, front desk receptionists are friendly and understanding, Dr Braden is kind and knowledgeable... I can't say anything bad. Susan is obnoxious , especially if you do not do exactly as she tells you to. There is confusion here as to who is to get deference. After my examination, Hicks Dental gave me a quote of $375.40 for all the recommended work they suggested. I had the work done and they sent me a bill for $793.80. There is a big difference of $418.40 between $375.40 and $793.80. Had I know what my real bill was going to be, I would have chosen not to complete all the work at that time. When asked about the difference, all they said was "my bad." If you choose to work with Hicks Dental, watch your wallet. These people are not honest. read more

I just had my second visit to the Hicks Dental Group, I couldn't be happier. I moved to Prescott 4 months ago and was referred to them by a friend. The office staff is friendly and professional. I saw Dr. Braden, the youngest of the group. I had a general check up and cleaning on the first visit. They have state of the art equipment, it was pain free.
