Hubby's truck needed transporting from Ballahack Rd (almost NC) to a transmission shop in Norfolk (near NSU) and I asked him to use Hickory because they're locally owned and great stewards in our community (they took up donations for the western NC hurricane victims and for the young boy hit and killed basically in front of their location) and they were more likely to know pur location than an out of towner. Sure enough, when the young driver called for directions he knew exactly where we were. Once he arrived, he had hubby's truck up and carted off to Norfolk lickety-split. Our charge was $200 for over 25 miles. I thought that was a steal!! I've been charged a 1/3rd of that just to be towed 5 miles within the city limits! Quick, kind, and took good care of my car. They've helped me a few times and always been professional.

The customer service is absolutely horrible hear. They are lazy, incompetent, and liars. I called to confirm if my car was at the lot. The woman says yes. I arrive at the address gps picked up and called to ask for clarification that I was at the correct place when I didn't see any cars. She proceeds to say, oh your car is at a different location. Why wouldn't she confirm the address of where my car was when I initially called. Then, I go to the lot to clear out my car only to realize I left the correct key to get in. I go back to my house, get the correct key, and learn they called a tow truck to get the car WITHOUT me giving them permission. I asked why this happened and they said we can't do anything once insurance comes to get the car. I said that isn't what I was told. I ask the woman in the office again why this occurred and she said you need to call your insurance and this is the new location where your car will be. I speak to copart and my insurance afterwards and they both confirmed hickory towing gave them the green light to pick up the car. So I called the shop back and now the woman says well we have on our camera showing you were here. I said, yes that is true, but I never opened the car doors to get anything out nor did I call you to confirm I completed the clean out. She said, I made an assumption you had when I saw the camera and You didn't call me to tell me that you didn't clean it out. I explained to her that I don't appreciate being lied to and that this was poor customer service to blame me for the mistake she made. I was told that the car would not be picked up unless I called to confirm I cleaned it out. I did not make that call and now because she made an assumption, I have to drive an hour one way to get my belongings. Do not support this business....avoid at all costs!!!!! If I could, I'd rate in the negatives as far as I could. Getting punched in the face would have been more polite than the conversation I had with the owner. When my car was towed, I called them to get it back, but the owner just kept on insulting me over the phone for SOME reason, and when I said I just wanted to pay the fee so I could get my car back, he refused and hung up. He was MORE than difficult; he was trying to refuse to give me my car back. I eventually got my car back, but I overheard that his side of the story was that I WAS the one being difficult! HE insulted ME, HE refused to give back MY property, and yet I'M the difficult one? I only see two types of ratings here, 5 star and 1 star, so I can only imagine that the 5-star ratings are all fake or from people who dealt with employees only, not the owner. My vehicle was towed from this company, this is by far the worst towing company I have EVER HAD to deal with trying to get my car back. I called their phone number to get information on how I could retrieve my vehicle, the man that answered has the most rude and arrogant way of speaking to people. He told me Saturday's they only release cars from 11am-3pm and call when you are there so we can send someone to meet you there. I called at 11:01 am was told 30-45 minutes MAYBE again with the nastiest attitude. Needless to say I was there until 12:55pm until someone decided to show up, I had to call 6 times during that time to see if they were getting closer and all i was being told was 5 minutes, 15 minute and someone should be there any moment now... yeah 2 hours later someone shows up. They are a SCAM service. They sit in the parking lot next to the DMV on Saturday mornings and wait for the overflow to park in the Wagner eye care lot (all businesses there are closed on Saturday and parking there for an hour does no harm). Once you park and go in the building they tow your car about a mile or two up the road by the city garage site and then charge you $$$$$180.00 DOLLARS to get it back. The guy was a bully and just down right mean. He took advantage of a kid (getting his first picture license) and his mom. Horrible, sneaky, just not necessary. When he dropped the truck off at my house he did everything he could to accommodate my sons wishes in helping us get the truck into the back yard, through a very small gate. My car was towed while staying with a friend and I was unaware of their towing policy. The towing of my car wasn't the problem, it was the unprofessionalism of Matt or Mack whatever his name is. I called to inquire about my car and where it was (because I am not from the area) and not 2 minutes into the conversation Matt/Mack is literally yelling at me on the phone. He asked where my car got towed from and I could not hear him and said I said "I'm sorry I couldn't hear you, can you say that again." He began to yell and I told him to please not yell at me. He gave me the address and when I ask for his name he told me Mack/Matt when I asked for his last name he said "I don't give out my last name". When I arrived to the facility I was greeted by two men, one I assume was Matt because of his voice but they both acted like they didn't know who I was talking about. I asked for the manager and was told he wasn't in I then asked for the managers number and was told the number on the side of the towing truck was his number (which I didn't believe). Regardless of the situation I shouldn't be getting yelled at by a grown man about MY car. I understand they probably get people yelling at them and cussing them out all the time but I didn't, never gave attitude or yelled. Very unprofessional. read more

My daughter had an appt. to have their flat bed truck to come and pick up a vehicle, but because of getting caught by the bridge she couldn't get their right on time, and she was trying to reach the driver he wouldn't pick up his phone. I personally called to make the payment over the phone so that they could bring it to our residence, but they lied and said my daughter said she wanted to follow behind them , which was a lie. So by the time she got to the residence they drop her car and left, because they had a call from the city. This company is crap. Don't depend on them for anything. Things happen I am not blaming this company for that but when my son called to get the information of where my car was the guy he talked to had an attitude from the start. Threatening him, saying come down here so I can punch you in the face. Why kind of business owner or employee can talk to customers like that. I just have to say that Hickory towing saved us BIG!!! It's Monday oct 10th, two days after hurricane Matthew swept through and we were moving our brand new, like just picked up Saturday, 2017 35ft Thor Motor Coach to store at a friends house out in Pungo. My husband ended up putting the back drivers side tire in a ditch and needless to say I was freaking out!! We called a ton of places but bc of the storm everyone was swamped, or couldn't handle the RV. I found Henry's towing and he said he needed to drop off his child and would be there within 2 hours. 3.5 hours later he had stopped answering his phone and I just gave up on him. It's now 8:30pm, pitch black and I'm desperate! I found Hickory towing and looked at their reviews, I saw a lot of one star reviews but decided to call anyway. They answered and took all the info about the RV, very professional and they knew what they were taking about too! They took a credit card, it was $400 to secure and would most likely be another $400 once all was said and done. They arrived sooner than promised and delivered with extreme confidence and knowledge. They were phenomenal and I honestly cannot say enough good things about them! I highly recommend this company for any towing needs especially for your RV!!! The only reason I'm giving 1 star is because there was a really nice guy who let us in to get the stuff out of my car when no one else was there even though they were "open". The lady that works the front desk is extremely rude, the men who do the towing are extremely rude, and when I asked to have my car towed to my house they told me they couldn't get it down my street. It's in a neighborhood not a narrow back road. They told me to tow to my house would be $160. Then I went to pay to get my car out of their yard and on top of the $160 to tow and the $25/day for storage, which I was prepared for, they charged me $100 for labor which I do not understand. I wouldn't have had to pay that if they had just taken it to my house. Labor? For loading and unloading that they would have done anyway? This place is a joke. What a rip off. read more

I needed a tow truck fast. When calling the representative answered on the 2nd ring. She was thorough, fast and friendly. The towing gentleman called me within 2mins after hanging up with the in-house representative. He too was prompt and quick. Johnnie the tow' driver arrived to my location "River Oak church" within 10mins. He was friendly and careful w/my vehicle. He transported and delivered my car in same condition it was initially pick up as. Although I was inconvenienced by needing a tow, Hickory's Towing lowered my stress and anxiety by way of their professionalism. I didn't have a tip and Johnnie assured it was no problem. He never once made me feel less than of for not having a tip. Instead he handed me business cards and suggested I refer if I was pleased. God help anyone who has the misfortune of dealing with Matt from Hickory Towing. For someone being in this profession, his demeanor and attitude is terrible. Our friend's car was wrongfully towed by him and instead of explaining calmly what happened or working with us to fix the problem he was rude, condescending, insulting, and hung up the phone twice like a child when the conversation didn't go his way. He talks down to women and tries to be intimidating over the phone. Fortunately our apartment complex reimbursed the towing fee because they understood we were not at fault. I can think of no other businesses that collect money from customers that conduct themselves less professionally than Hickory Towing. My car was disabled in a visitor parking area of an apartment complex while I was in Arizona visiting my mother who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer for the holidays. I was informed by a staff member at the complex before I left that the vehicle would be fine there until I returned and could make arrangements to move it since my insurance company had informed me that they could not move it without me present. I was informed while out of town that Hickory Towing had removed my vehicle from the complex and had taken it to one of their lots. I spoke to the tow company that same day and the man was flat out disrespectful and rude and refused to allow me to finish a sentence. He was unwilling to allow me to speak, and I was simply trying to find out what my options were seeing as I was still in Arizona. He cut me off and said I would have to call back the next day between 10 and 5 to pay. I called back the next day after another conversation with my insurance company who under the circumstances was willing to work with me. When I called the towing company back (at about noon their time), the man was more outrageously rude than the day before. He didn't want to discuss anything with me after I explained that once I paid their exorbitant fee, my insurance company would be moving my car to my house because he wanted to charge me an additional $85 for them to do that. I worked for an insurance company and with the tow providers for YEARS and the man insisted I didn't know what I was talking about despite the fact that we had discussed it the day before. He then refused to take my payment, saying they were actually closed that day and that even discussing this with me was doing me a favor, and informed me that he wasn't going to listen to any guilt trip from me. I tried to point out that he himself told me to call back at that time to pay and make arrangements to have it moved and he hung up the phone. I had to call back AGAIN and speak with the same man. I said AGAIN that my vehicle was towed after I had arrangements in place before I left, and that despite being the one horsed around I am still trying to fix it. My insurance company agreed to come get it even though I couldn't be there given the circumstances, and he had already agreed I could pay today. He cut me off and advised that his "secretary" would call me at some point and take my payment, and couldn't resist getting in one more threat that if my car wasn't moved by the end of business that day I would be paying them more $$. (Remember when he said they weren't open?). A girl called from a local number, took my debit card info and that was it - my insurance company had the vehicle within the hour and delivered it to my house. If I had been notified of Hickory's intent to get my vehicle despite me being assured otherwise, my insurance company may have been willing to do that before I got cussed out a few times and charged $145.00. This is a company that is greedy, rude, beyond unprofessional and will not hesitate to jerk you around and change what they have told you if it doesn't mean more money for them. read more
