We stopped at the tavern for a drink and food and to watch some NFL. The place was kinda busy at the bar where we sat. There was only one bartender and he was running around trying to get orders and drinks. On a Sunday afternoon with the NFL on there should be more then 1 bartender. It took 20 minutes to get a drink then another 25 minutes to order food. A woman working there took our order and was rude cause we had to ask her to take our order. Needless to say we didn't have a good experience at all and probably won't be back. read more

This is a place my husband and I often come to after a rough day at work to unwind and have some drinks. It's always been a nice experience. My favorite dish is the blackened chicken mac n cheese bowl. It's so good! Last time around I had a some strawberry cocktail but I don't recall the name of the drink. They don't jip you on the alcohol here either. Too many restaurants serve cocktail drinks that barely contain alcohol. However, Typically after one mixed drink at Hickory Tavern I'm feeling nice which is why it's our go to for a nice time, good food, good drinks, and good convo. If you want a good place to go to watch any sporting event Hickory Tavern is a great place for you. There are so many TV's so you can watch several different games simultaneously. If you are looking for a nice date night place, this is definitely not it. It was very loud in there, so although this was not a date, my friends and I felt like we had to yell to hear each other, so I can only imagine how off-putting it could feel to be here for some QT. This was probably the most average meal I have ever eaten in my life. I was extremely skeptical when I was eating my appetizer (flats and nachos, a simple choice), but then the main meal came. It exceeded expectations, which isn't saying much because they were already so low. The burgers were sloppily put together and were presented so grotesquely. The macaroni and cheese was excessively greasy. The food altogether was overpriced especially when taking the taste into account. I found it hilarious how many of the people stared when my baby sister would scream-- like babies do sometimes-- but completely ignored the obnoxiously loud laughter coming from the bar. If Yelp allowed half stars, I would say this place was a 2.5/5. The only thing I enjoyed was the service. The only way I would ever return is if I happened to be in the area and every other nearby restaurant was closed. read more

I have been here a few times this month and it was always excellent. My wife and I sit at the bar and the service is great. Today we had Tyler, Ariel, and another young lady that were very attentive. We ordered Wings with Bee Sting sauce, Onion Rings, and Chicken quesadilla. The wings were cooked perfectly as crispy and moist and the Onion rings were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The quesadilla was packed with chicken and came out hot. We were greated by the GM named Jamie and he was very interested in how our food and service was and if there were any complaints. It was another great night at Hickory and I will be going there again. Recently was treated to dinner at H Tavern at Parkside. I went with fairly high expectations due to an overall positive experience at the Chapel Hill location. Arrived on a brisk, fall night, around 530. They provide outdoor seating complete with heaters and their bar/overall restaurant appeared to be much larger than their CH counterpart. We were quickly seated in a booth, and met our server Emma. Emma's service was average, not good, not bad. Had she smiled and been more engaging, it definitely would have improved our visit. Service-3 star. We ordered the following: Large bbq chicken nachos-Outstanding! 5 star. Pimento cheese burger- 2 star. Asked for Medium, and it was overcooked. Very bland too. Disappointing. Rice and Chicken dinner. 3 star. Again, it did not impress, but was adequate. 3 Star Night due to average service and meals. Nachos were the highlight. If I had to critique it I wish the onions where evenly cut and half has much .. the bowl is slated I was worried the grits were gonna pore out ... so I had to keep stirring . I paired it with champagne . And fruit for my side the fruit had mostly mandarin oranges witch is okay since I skipped the oj in my Mamosa. Lol the garlic bread is so yummy with the grits ! Visited this place yesterday. The location and the ambiance of the place is great. However, the food is very subpar & with their prices (EX: 6 wings for nearly $11) they could do a lot better. The menu needs a revamp. The waitress was nice and attentive & the manager was GREAT which is where these two stars are coming from. The food is complete no for me. I ordered the "Smothered Chicken" with broccoli and jasmine rice. The whole meal was trash. The chicken was the most dry and flavorless thing ever and the rice and broccoli were both overcooked. The chicken came with mushrooms and onions BUT they were both raw someone literally just threw RAW mushrooms and onions on this chicken that was supposed to be "sautéed in a white wine sauce" they obviously forgot that step. New restaurant to Cary and glad it's here. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night with no wait but the place was full. Seated quickly and greeted by our waitress equally so. Menu has a lot of good choices so I asked for a recommendation. She suggested the shrimp po boy and it was off the chain!!! My side was the sweet potato fries and they were delicious. The service was spot on and management seemed to have the place running smoothly...unlike Chuy's that opened up a block away. Highly recommend and we will be back! ***update*** Foods still good but the kitchen management has gone down hill faster than a Jamaican bob sled team. The last 2 times we've been here they've run out of baked potatoes...really??? Whoever does there food ordering should be canned. Seriously doubt we'll be back. read more

When my order same out, the wings were burned and my fries came out cold. The manager offered to remake my same order and I asked for it to go. We have tried this location three times and each visit was mediocre at best. We came in later in the evening during a weekday. There were only 3-4 tables and a couple people at the bar. Or server was friendly but spent most her time chatting with another employee out on the floor. We ordered three burgers, two medium well and one well done. All three came out well done with little flavor. The tater tots were overcooked. It also took 40 minutes to get our food and there were very few customers in the restaurant. Our visit before this, the steaks were overcooked and when I went to pour the A-1 sauce, it came out the same consistency as water. They did remake the steak, which took forever for them to do so. It was overcooked the second time as well. I ended up packing it up to go as my family had already finished their meals. The service was also terrible on this visit. Not sure what the issue is at this restaurant but they can't seem to get it right lol. read more

How does this place have 3 stars? The BF and I have been here around 4-5 times. We want to love it because it has a great atmosphere at the bar. The staff is always lovely, so the review is not for them. The drinks and food are just terrible. $10-$11 for the chicken nacho appetizer. The chicken was cold and tasted like it came from a can. There was about 5 chunks of chicken and hardly any sauce. To pay that price for a plate full of just nacho chips is a joke (I should of taken a picture- I'm not exaggerating). Every thing we have ever ordered has been absolutely disgusting (Fish and chips, philly cheese steak, wings come out cold). Please management, I beg you to take pride in this establishment! I came for an early lunch (11:30) on a weekday with a group of about 12 from work. Service was not fast but it was the lunch crunch at RTP so I didn't expect fast. More staff would do wonders at that time of the day. I pity a larger group trying to do lunch there. The staff also seemed to be more than a little clueless about who got what. I can appreciate that it can be confusing but it's their job, they deliver food to many customers throughout day, and they should be able to come up with some sort of system by now so they don't have to hold up a plate and say "who gets such-and-such?" I got the California Chicken Sandwich which was tasty but ill-conceived in its delivery. Call me weird but I think you should be able to eat a sandwich with little use of a knife and fork. There was almost an over abundance of avocado, lettuce, and tomato and it just turned into an act of futility with the innards sliding about and onto the plate. After making a mess while trying to eat it with my hands, I switched to the utensils. Even so, though I still had a significant portion of bun, lettuce, and tomato left, I had eaten all the chicken. I was not as satisfied as I hoped to be. One or two toothpicks or their equivalent could have done wonders at holding the sandwich together while I ate it normally. Alternatively, maybe some sort of wrapper could help hold it together. If I ever get any kind of sandwich there again, I will specifically ask for toothpicks. read more
