A couple things I'll say, some of the lowest quality chicken I've had with some pieces so tough I physically could not chew through, and the rice had clearly been boiled and overcooked with how mushy it was. Their shrimp was just okay, no tails or excessive fishiness, just tasted a bit like nothing. their gyoza was phenomenal! Fried but not too fried, and a wonderful taste. Haven't been to Hibachi Express in a while. Usually hate going on campus during lunch, but I took a chance. Parking is usually terrible, but the parking was good today. I was a creature of habit in college and always ordered the same thing. It was right across from the business college so I came here on occasion for lunch. I'd only get the hibachi with white rice. Only the chicken teriyaki or the shrimp teriyaki. Can't go wrong. Unbeatable price and it's filling. Bang for your buck for sure. The food came quick and I always found a table despite how small it is in here. It had the feel of one of those Chinese restaurants at a mall food court. Hibachi express is FIRE. They load up your to-go box, I can usually split it into two meals. It's delicious and their yum-yum sauce just hits different than the others My only recommendation is that they should stay open later than 9. Express!! The absolute fastest hibachi meal that I've ever had! I'm dead serious, I think it was ready in less than two minutes. I commented on how quick it was and the lady commented on them not being busy. So, maybe it's not always THAT fast. It's located next to NiceNPan, almost directly on campus. Yes, parking is a tricky. There is a lot across the street, Parrell that is available to nonpermit parkers after 7:30 Monday-Thursday, otherwise, good luck finding parking when UK is in session. I ordered the chicken hibachi and at $6.55, you can't get a meal at McDonald's for that fast and cheap. The only complaint that I had was that there were hardly any veggies at all. Best place near campus for under $10! This is the perfect spot for those who live on campus and need a delectable, affordable meal. I normally order the hibachi chicken with double meat (for an extra $1 or so). It is everything you expect from a sit-down hibachi restaurant, minus the theatrics of an onion train and flying shrimp. Their yum-yum sauce is incredible! They also have sriracha which pairs well with the yum-yum sauce and your food. The family who operates this place is friendly and your food is prepared quickly the moment you place your order. It is right across the street from Gatton College of Business and I believe their hours have recently changed to close at 4pm on the weekends. I've been to Hibachi Express on two occasions now, and it's pretty great for the price and how quick you get your food! It's fast, hot, and delicious. I've ordered the chicken teriyaki on one occasion, and the chicken hibachi on another. They're pretty similar in my opinion, but the hibachi comes with "yum yum" sauce, which is worth getting. The only downside is that, in my opinion, you get A LOT of rice, and not as many veggies. I'd prefer a little less rice, and more veggies (and I'm sure you could ask for it this way, I just haven't yet!). It can get crowded at lunch because it's close to campus, but they move you through quickly. Parking is also an issue, but I always walk from my office. read more

Hidden gem! I would have never noticed this place if I didn't work close by, but it's worth a stop for lunch if you're in the area. I get the vegetable hibatchi, and the vegetables are fresh and not from a frozen bag. They're served over delicious fried rice and "yum yum" sauce (very accurate name). I can't believe it has taken me so long to review this place that I love so much! I've been going here for years and I've never been disappointed. This is a favorite of UK students because it's cheap and quick...but UK employees like me love it, too! The menu is limited, but because of that, it's one of the fastest places to eat near campus. There is a vegetable hibachi that I absolutely love with a ton of rice and vegetables for about $8. It comes with "yum yum sauce". I have no idea what it is other than delicious. It's great on the hibachi and the same sauce is served with the crab Rangoon for dipping. Speaking of which, their crab Rangoon is my favorite in town. I highly recommend it. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nothing fancy, and it does get crowded at lunch when classes are in session. But, even when it's packed, it's super quick. I just left Hibachi Express- my stomach is full and so is my wallet. I got the Hibachi Chicken and Shrimp, it came with rice and veggies. The portions are large, and the service was fast. I paid for my meal as well as my friends and it totaled around $15.00. The restaurant was clean and the employee I spoke to was friendly and helpful. I'll go there again when I'm near campus. A small hole-in-the-wall place across from the University of Kentucky campus. The price is so affordable and the food is ready quickly. I usually call in my order and get it in 5 minutes. The Hibachi shrimp at this cozy little hole in the wall is surprisingly delicious, though the fried rice is quite bland. The real shortcoming here is customer service. The food I received was not what I expected, so I asked for my money back and ordered something else. Then, bafflingly, the hostess came over to my table and took the provided cups of yum yum sauce back from me. Despite my politeness, and multiple apologies, I was met only with rudeness and disrespect. When the food I wanted came out (credit where credit is due, it came out very quickly), the hostess refused to give it to me until I opened the box and made sure it was the right food. After that, I left. If all you care about is the time it takes for the food to get to you, then I would recommend this restaurant. This is another restaurant where you have to have the proper expectations. It's really fast, has a simple menu, and everything is really solid. All of the food is made fresh in the back, and the woman who runs the register/owns(?) the place is really friendly and efficient. I've tried most things on their menu, and have yet to be disappointed. Most are some combination of protein, vegetables, rice, sauce.
