Redford Auto Repair - Waiting area

The time from start to repaired and on the road was impressive. They communicated the details thoroughly through the repair process as well. The have 5 bays and a collision shop in the back lot of the building. They have a comfy waiting area as well. I'll be coming back here from now on for all my auto and truck repairs.

I was already working with Scott at Michigan Sandblasting and planned to have my Jeep's underbody sandblasted there. Rashid told me they could apply POR-15 afterward, so based on that I paid to have the Jeep towed down there. After it arrived, everything changed. Rashid started questioning the project and for over a week I was given the runaround. Multiple times Rashid told me he would "talk to Scott figure out a solution and call me back," but the call back never happened. Every time I followed up I got the same vague response and nothing actually moved forward. Rashid knew all of the details prior to me towing it down there. If this wasn't a job they wanted to take on, that should have been communicated from the beginning instead of telling me to bring the vehicle down and spend money towing it there. It's extremely frustrating to be told something can be done, only to have the shop avoid giving a straight answer after the vehicle is already there. Very disappointing and unprofessional way to handle a customer. I wasted time and money because they couldn't simply be upfront about whether they were willing to do the work.

I gave them a chance when my front sway bar broke, I knew the front end was damaged/needed repair. The repaired the sway bar, called me in to look at the truck more in detail. They showed minor play in the ball joints, advised replacement. Its ball joints so sure, Ill play game I'll get ball joints done. Then they try to walk me to the rear diff with a stethoscope and ultimately tell me I need "a whole new rear differential" which the previous owner took immaculate care of the truck and this F-150 had maybe 120,000 miles on it. Since I doubt the rear diff had been serviced I said sure - clean it out, I'm not replacing it. So first trip, front end work required - techs end up doing rear end work. Second trip is a doozy so let me tell you about this one, this is why I am not coming back. My truck goes from flashing engine light, to solid engine light, limp mode and its dying. Techs diagnose it for an hour running codes for cam too far forward, cam too far back, random misfires, and misfires ALL on the drivers side bank of the 5.4L V8 engine. Techs say I need either a 4,000$ cleanout of cam phasers, that most likely won't work - and that I need a new engine. Ideally remanufactured at an estimated cost of 7,000$. I was charged for a one-hour 125$ diagnosis fee. Filled with grief and stress, and an inability to front 4-7k for a repair I get a second opinion from a more refutable shop down the street. For 1300$ at the other shop the actual FIX and REPAIR was 8 plugs, 3x coil packs on the misfiring cylinders and the drivers side solenoid for the VTT timing. This shop had the worst diagnosis, charged me for it, caused me grief personally and stress within my entire circle. Arguments and tears were shed about money. I am not going here after such a poor diagnosis. Its like they ran the codes and did nothing else in terms of research. If you are in the mechanic industry and you don't know the routes to fix things - or how to research to fix things maybe you shouldn't be in the mechanic industry. The entire dialgoue was strange too both times. The owner and the Tech go back and forth with the tech going "Its real bad boss, real bad real bad" and then the owner throwing dollar costs at you.

After their diagnosis, I was told the right control arm and struts needed to be replaced, and I was quoted around $900. Not only was the original issue still present when I drove away, but the experience got worse from there. I was told my struts would be replaced, but I was later informed shocks were done instead. I was also told the right control arm needed repair, but work was done on the left side instead. On top of that, my car key was damaged while in their possession. I was given conflicting explanations first that the key was already wobbly, then that it had to be taken apart because the battery was dead. Regardless, I ended up paying to replace my own key. When I immediately told Mike (the owner) that the original noise was still there, he asked me to bring the car back the next day. After looking underneath the vehicle again, I was suddenly told there were multiple additional problems that somehow weren't identified in the original diagnosis--and I was quoted another $1,100. At that point, I lost confidence and took my vehicle to the dealership for evaluation. I provided them with the paperwork from this shop, and based on what I was told there, the repairs I believed had been completed were not consistent with what I was charged/told had been done. I am now having the dealership properly repair my vehicle. This was an expensive, stressful, and frustrating experience involving poor communication, conflicting information, unresolved issues, and damage to my property. I would strongly encourage anyone using this shop to get everything documented clearly and verified.
