I stopped by The Scoop in Portville for ice cream recently on a warm spring afternoon. There was a…read moreline when I arrived at this outside ice cream stand. They offer many flavors of Perry's Ice Cream (hard scoop) and soft serve ice cream (cones & cups), sundaes (traditional& specialty), flurries, milk shakes, floats, slush puppies, and doggie dishes. They have close to 35 toppings to add to your treat. They also serve ice cream flights, 4 small scoops of your choice for $5 (in 2024) and waffle nachos. Despite having one order window and one pickup window, the line moved along. When it was my turn, I ordered the Waffle Nachos ($6) which came with soft serve ice cream (vanilla), choice of two toppings (got cheesecake bites & apple topping) and sugar cone chips. These waffle nachos were a good size and I dipped the chips into the ice cream, cheesecake and apples for a nice sweet dessert to enjoy with my large coffee I had in my vehicle.

We went back later to talk to the management they didn't seem to care if we were happy or not. All he said I will inform the employees about the size of the scoops. This was totally unacceptable. We always go to Crosby's for ice cream when we are back in town. We have never been disappointed before, we always were very pleased with our purchases. I grow up in the area, my Dad took his milk from our farm to Crosby's every day. I use to go in with my .25 cents for a milkshake or cone. Mr. Crosby use to wait on me and sometimes he even gave it to me free. So I have found memories of Crosby's so when I am in town I go for ice cream. This last visit was my last, I know times have changed but the service should be the same.

It's got red carpeted floors and heavy wooden chairs; deep comfortable booths and heavy curtains. The staff dress in black and white; the roast beef station is prominent in the dining room behind a glass viewing area. As a child, I would spackle on enough fresh horseradish in my beef on wick I'd cry (but it was so good!!); as a grown up, I'm more cautious. Tonight I tried the beefeater au jus: A giant platter of thin slices of beef of your choosing, in a hot beef broth. Loved my dinner here! Before I forget: Although parking in the front of the restaurant on the street can be limited (especially during the holidays), there's a gigantic private lot in the back of the restaurant, accessed by the alley to the right of the front entrance, or by North Barry Street.
