a pulled pork sandwich
Adam C.

Without question the worst BBQ pork sandwich I've ever had. Combine that with a generally unwelcoming disposition of the staff... absolutely gets a 1star.

Looks hot mess tasty.... actually it was meh....

From the outside this place looks cool.... inside it is very sterile.... no character whatsoever.... has about 6 4 top tables plus wall bar with about 4 bar chairs.... They say they're BBQ but all they do is sandwiches & burgers and some Mexican offerings (WTF up with that?).... Stopped in on 3/26/13 cause their cross street competitor was having credit card machine issues and I was impatient.... probably should've centered my chee and stuck it out.... oh well Now as to this place....I went with the BBQ beef sandwich, those damn things are small so for another $1 I told em to double the meat.... the girl behind the counter claimed the sauce was some kinda proprietary greatness.... Sammich came out and was dripping messy which I'm cool with... but it needed to have some flavor.... this meal had NO flavor whatsoever.... the liberal application of BBQ sauce added nothing to the experience...No smokiness, No tangy, No sweet, No spice... some damn Yankees if they was down here for the first time and ate at this place would probably love it.... but come on, you in Livingston, LA! Country as can be...I expect some decent to damn good BBQ!! The whole experience was bland, Bland, BLAND!!! Next time I'm in town and feeling it for BBQ I'll be hitting up the across the street competition!

Ok this is a worthy Q... not enough details, ok start with Brisket…read more Lean meat on a toasted bun which helps the bun stay together and the crispy edges bring texture into the mix. The meat on both visits lean as never have I had brisket without chunks of fat that I had to dive into the meat to remove. That's not how to start your Q enjoyment. Very tasty beef as is. I personally don't eat what was the latest trend a decade ago in Q ... such as everything including the kitchen sink on my smoked meat and sauce which is thick with a negligible sweet-tang. Slaw on the side or any other side, but the traditional slaw is my go to. Mayo based without being heavy handed in its construction, yet it is not dry. And yes you guessed it, no poppy, caraway, or fennel seeds in it either (props on that). The green onion sausage was enjoyably not dry and not greasy. How do you figure that out! For the ambiance... really it's a Bar B Que joint. Tables don't have hand carved latest love birds but they are covered and cleaned and come with a roll of Ecco friendly paper towels. For those like myself who make a mess when eating Q. There's a TV and plenty of windows for the view. Staff were down right polite and helpful in navigating their menu items and making suggestions to consolidate items into a $ combo instead of +$ a-la carte. Oh and Iced tea was Southern Sweet tea, not pancake syrup. My only detractor is a personal preference. It's the amount of smoke is less than I prefer, but this Q will win you over.

I've also recommended it to visitors in the area, and they've had positive experiences as well. Today I ordered lunch for the office, and once again, everyone enjoyed their food. I will continue to recommend this place.

WOW! This place is always on point and truly the very best BBQ on the Northshore, which I don't say…read morelightly. Having lived in Austin and being obsessed with BBQ I'd call myself a little bit of a BBQ perfectionist. Anyone who has done it themselves knows to get it right you can't rush it, takes good prep, cooking process, and resting/proper finishing. Salty Joe's definitely focuses on all of those aspects of making good barbecue and the finished product is tasty. Their Brisket is juicy, smokey, and rich beef flavors, the ribs are tender and seasoned well, and the pulled pork is a good balance of prim flavor and smokiness. Don't skip on the drinks (margaritas are delicious) or the desert

Salty Joe's is more of a restaurant that has BBQ than it is a BBQ restaurant. Nothing wrong with…read morethat just an observation based on their huge menu. My buddy and I stopped in here one Saturday for lunch and decided to split an order of Philly cheesesteak eggrolls and a sampler platter. The eggrolls were solid and came with a cheese dipping sauce. There were 3 of these that were cut in half so really enough for 3-4 people to get a taste. The sampler platter came with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork with 2 sides. We got the beans and corn pudding. The corn pudding is a misnomer as this is really cornbread. Still good though. The meats were all pretty good with the brisket being better than I expected. Their sauces were not my favorite. I think one had some sort of blackberry flavor, but I could have that wrong. The food is pretty good; the service was on point and the place itself is fun and funky.

Rainy afternoon BBQ run turned into one of the best meals we've had in a long time…read more We swung by to grab food and somehow ended up with a full spread and enough to share with the neighbors. Honestly, every single thing we tried hit. The ribs were dialed in just right. Not falling apart, but that perfect bite where they pull clean off the bone. You can tell they know exactly what they're doing on the pit. Pulled pork was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. But the real standout for me was the burnt pork ends. Absolute game changer. Crispy, caramelized, smoky... slamalamadingdong. I could've eaten a whole tray of those. Brisket was legit. Moist, rich, and packed with that deep smoke flavor you're always hoping for. No dryness at all, and the fat was rendered perfectly. Loved that. Sausage was good, just not my personal favorite. I'm a Louisiana sausage guy so I'm a tough critic there, but it definitely wasn't bad. Sides and extras were on point too. Pickles, onions, mac and cheese, sauce... everything complemented the meat without getting in the way. But those mustard greens? I'd go back just for a tub of that. So good. Slamming. Something about grabbing great BBQ in the rain just made the whole experience even better. If you're anywhere near this place, don't overthink it. Order more than you think you need. You'll be glad you did. We'll definitely be back.

I definitely would go all the time if I wanted to eat BBQ. They make it great and also tasty. They also give you a good amount. We tried basically one of everything. The avocado egg/ armadillo egg was good. All of the meats were great and juicy. I highly recommend coming here if you want good bbq for a good price in the Baton Rouge area.
