We we looking for new water heater to be put in and we used Yelp to create a project. We had several different companies recommended to us and this was one of those. The Good: Everyone that I dealt was very friendly and helpful. The two gentlemen I met with to create a bid on the project we friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. I was under the impression from the start that they really wanted to help. When I suggested perhaps wanting to change over to a tankless system they shared with the the pros and the cons of that option for may particular situation. Perhaps best of all they pointed out any potential pitfalls of my current system and how those could be worked around. After a careful review of the property, they provided me with a very septic estimate of the costs of the job. All-in-all a good first impression. The Bad Unlike most other places that I have talked to, they charge an $89 service fee just to tell you how much their services are going to cost. In their defense, they did tell me this in advance so I wasn't caught off guard. What did surprise me a little was that I was going to get charged that service fee regardless of whether or not I used their services. In every other circumstance where I have encountered something like this that bill was just waived if you let them do a service that costs thousands of dollars. Once the job was done we went over the bid. While some people might consider upselling a good thing, that's where I started loosing interest. The price went from nearly 4k to 5k to 6k with all the varied extras they suggested. Now based on the research I did replacing a 50 gal water heater should cost between $700 and $3,100 dollars with the average person spend right around $2,250. With a tank and parts running between $800-1,100 those later numbers make sense for a job that takes a single person a few hours. That left their lowest bare-bones bid still about 30 percent higher that the national average maximum. Way too high. The Decision We went with a local general contractor that we have used before for right around $2,500 (near the national average) using the same kind of tank in the same time frame, with the job schedules only a couple weeks out: no rush because it was just an update not a repair. While $1,500 doesn't sound like a lot to some people, it sounds like nearly a whole paycheck to this everyday working Joe. read more

Everything about Hi-Desert Plumbing is stellar! There was water on my back patio, but I wasn't able to identify the source of the leak. I suspected it was my water heater, but wasn't sure. I called Hi-Desert Plumbing they came out that very afternoon. Diagnosing the problem proved to be challenging, but Joey was diligent and finally found the source of the leak. It was a complicated process to do the repair, because of how the original pipes were configured, but the Hi-Desert Plumbing crew got it done in record time. They also replaced my 20+ year old water heater. The care that Joey took to communicate with me was amazing. I'm a recent widow whose husband took care of the maintenance of our home. So of course I panicked. Joey explained everything in detail while demonstrating such patience, empathy and grace. The service that I received in terms of communication, expertise, and product was worth every penny. I recently bought a 1950s home and found myself unexpectedly dealing with an underground gas leak in the backyard from a corroded gas line. Henry and his team helped us replace the entire gas line from the meter to the house, and were very patient with me as a new homeowner with a ton of basic questions about gas appliances and general gas line information. They were very careful with the property and left everything exactly as it had been, down to replacing the gravel that they had needed to rake aside to dig up the line. Henry came out when SoCal Gas was onsite inspecting everything before turning on the gas line, and was a great resource for my family all the way up to receiving approval to restart gas service from the gas company. I have a water tank and pressure pump that provides water to my house. When it's not working, I have no water. One of the valves to the pressure tank sprung a leak and I had to turn off the water. I called Hi Desert Plumbing about 4:30 pm and they got right back to me within about 10 minutes. They had an opening the next day and put me on the schedule. They were on time and sent texts to me when they were on their way. Victor and Ruben did an excellent job! Since the pump was about 20 years old some of the parts were not available and they were able to come up with parts that would work. My water system works great now! They came out to look at a broken PVC 1" line attached to my water meter. The hole was already dug and one end of the pipe had a union that easily connects to my meter. They quoted $800 to do a repair that took the final plumber 1/2 an hour (me) plus a wait time for the glue to dry of 1 hour. They also offered to replace the pressure regulator which was attached to the broken pipe and the gate valve which was also attached for a whopping $2,200. Neither one of those items were broken. Replacing those two items would take an additional 20 minutes perhaps. Lets just say they replaced everything and it took 4 hours. That would equate to $550 dollars an hour. This was a definate attempt at extortion. It is greed, full on greed. It was such a simple job, that I actually went to home depot, spent $12.00 and repaired it myself. This company is shameless! When I sent them on their way, the owner called and try to tell my why his price was so high. Its because he drug tests and background checks his employees. Absolutely ridiculous! Beware, call around, and watch out for scammers. read more
